What an adorably sneaky little dog, I bet he fakes a hurt paw to get treats and attention but just say the magic word “walk” and he’s all better LOL!!

Good way to start the week – loverly cappys, adventurous cat, drama king dog, plus all the rest. I love the cat’s helmet, the spikes gave me a chuckle. She’s got a great dad who’s so handy. Yeah for the guy who bought the former factory helping out the cat colony. Those cat condos are just fab! So happy sassy bear cub has a new home, too many times it ends differently.

What awesome links to start a new week!😁
Totally love🥰 capybaras and that baby is downright darling! Love their whole story, esp the Valentine’s date!
The adopted cat is so lucky to find a human to love. Interesting that the cat picked the guy and then liked to do all the outside stuff the guy does! And guy should sell that little helmet—I bet there would be thousands who would buy!
Man who helps the cats at the old factory he bought is awesome! Love the condos💙
I lurve squirrels 🐿 and dog with fake paw limp—is there something that he gets that reinforced that behavior? And I’m sorry, but does the bear’s bottom lip seem odd to anyone else?

Even with the sound off, limping dog was hilarious! Can’t wait to enjoy all the other linkies later.

Aw – can’t wait to watch limping puppers with sound. And (sigh) Capybaras. It’s always a good day where there are Capybaras!

Alice? How are you and your Dad holding up? Staying cool? Sending you thoughts of arctic blasts – even though is is sweltering in Philly too – though not 105F thank heavens!

Today was sweltering but not quite as hot as the Met Office predicted. I’m a bit concerned about how the heat seems to be affecting Dad – he fell asleep in his chair for a couple of hours this afternoon but is convinced that he was there overnight and it’s now Tuesday. This has been going on for some time now and he’s still confused. Tomorrow (the real Tuesday!) will be even worse, with York expected to break Cambridge’s 2019 record as Hottest Place in Britain Since Records Began with a road-melting 103 degrees…

I’m sorry. My mother had dementia. It’s really hard to deal with. You definitely don’t need anything adding to the confusion

I’m glad it wasn’t so hot, not glad to hear about your Dad. I know that the older one gets the less one is able to recognize a differences in temperature. (That why one sees little old ladies wearing their wooly (or acrylic) sweaters when it’s 90F in the shade.) I’m not a doctor or medical professional but I recommend begin vigilant about water intake (warm, as in tea is fine – but lots of it) dehydration is the biggest problem. And (maybe) eating salty things – only if its okay to up the salt intake. It will help keep the water in him (and you). If he is on a diuretic – this becomes complicated. It sounds brutal over there.
To all the European Cutetropolitans – thinking of you and hoping you are able to stay cool somehow.

Is it still true that not many people have AC in England? This weather would make that incredibly hard!

Alice, thinking about you and your Dad. I am sorry you guys have to go through this. I hope you guys fare ok.

        • Alice Shortcake July 18, 2022 / 7:44 pm

AC is extremely rare other than in hotels and workplaces, no doubt because in the past we didn’t have to deal with freakishly high temperatures – it wouldn’t surprise me if after the heatwave AC will be fitted as standard in new houses!

I phoned the non-emergency NHS number about Dad’s problem and the advisor suggested that he might be suffering from low blood sugar, which made sense as something similar happened before. I gave him a glucose drink and within about half an hour he was much better, although the heat is making his breathing problems worse. A non-emergency ambulance was supposedly despatched but didn’t turn up. To be fair, due to a resurgence of Covid the NHS is seriously understaffed.

        Alice,

sorry that your father’s disoriented and struggling. Agree that hydration is hard, especially when people insist on wearing sweaters. I think my dad wore them because they were familiar, regardless of the weather.

If he resists water, will he take watery dishes like watermelon or a cold gazpacho? Maybe an icy sherbet?

Heard that cinemas are opening up as cooling stations if you’re a ginger. Not sure that I follow that logic but hey, what do I know?

I love how capybabies just look like smaller version of the adults.

    I love sqwerls sniffing flowers.

I’ve seen dogs pull the limping for attention act, but lose track of which paw was “injured.” ‘A’ for effort, lil buddy.

The capybara couple’s romance and the adorable result! The cat in the helmet is too much! Cathode and her human have definitely found each other.

    • Dubravkamcvmd July 18, 2022 / 3:36 pm

      Happy ending!

      • kermit July 18, 2022 / 4:11 pm

Meh, I don’t know how the dad feels about his parental responsibilities now.

They caught the mom first. The dad held out for two weeks by himself before he was caught.
