It’s almost Halloween, and all the Cutetropolis creatures are trying on their costumes. Reader Candi shares this photo of pop sensation Taylor Hisst, fresh from her triumphant SCAREUS tour, singing “I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling 22.”

Utterly adorable, and very patient
Taylor is either VERY forgiving or the camera failed to pick up the motion blur of a lashing tail.
It’s still very wet oop north and some of my favourite walks are currently flooded. However, on Thursday I enjoyed a lovely night out in Leeds watching Puccini’s once rarely performed but now edging-into-the-mainstream “La Rondine”. The story is an odd mixture of “La Traviata” and “Die Fledermaus” but the music is glorious. An interesting little moment I never noticed before: when one of the characters mentions Salome there’s a tiny musical quote from Strauss’ opera of that name! I also enjoyed the updating to the late 1920s, which enabled Gertrude Stein to be a walk-on guest at a Parisian cafe…
I’m curious – are opera tickets expensive in Britain or not? They’re expensive in New York.
I paid £26 for a balcony seat with a full view of the stage. Mid-range prices for the stalls and dress circle hover between £45-£70. But this was at the Grand Theatre in Leeds; ticket prices for the Royal Opera House in London are MUCH higher. Back in the 80s, when I lived within easy travelling distance of London, I was a frequent visitor to the ROH and always sat in the cheap Amphitheatre seats (if you’ve seen “The Red Shoes” you’ll have a good idea of what this part of the theatre looked like). Since then there has been a drastic refurbishment and there are NO cheap seats!
I forgot to add that the Met’s current production, shared with the ROH, is being streamed to cinemas here next year. It looks sensational and I’ll probably go see it.
Love it, the costume, (the glasses probably hide the evil glare) and Mike’s description.
Now that’s a concert I might go to!
Sunny with a high of 80 today! On October 28th! I have a birthday party for a nine-year-old this afternoon. Tomorrow I have to work, but it’s supposed to be in the low 60s and rainy so whatever.
My thoughts exactly Allein! 🙂 Have fun at the party. My neighbor and I are going to BBQ this evening – on October 28th – in Philly!
Happy Caturday everyone! Taylor Hisst made my morning. I dressed Jacques up as the catephant from a few weeks back. It took a few tries and some arguing. So congrats Candi for managing this!
Lots of errands to run today, make potato salad for BBQ this evening. Sad BBQ. My wonderful neighbors have to move. It’s a long and complicated story – and the moving is not by choice. I’m trying not to think about it. Just enjoying the lovely sunshine and weather. Windows are all open, Jacques and Butch are shouting about wanting to get outside – so I better scoot.
Enjoy your vacation Mike! Looking forward to seeing the reruns. ❤️
Taylor Hisst is a cutie!
It’s been a week of ups and downs here, the big down is my 17 year old cat Minnie’s appetite hasn’t been good this week, some days she barely eats at all.
Also she sleeps more and not in her usual places, she has started to sleep on the couch in the basement instead of upstairs on the beds. If things don’t improve next week I’ll make an appointment at the vet.
The one good thing is we finally had a plumber over to fix some annoying problems we had with the toilet and the bath and the bill came out at under $200 which I understand is a steal when it comes to plumbers.
It’s a glorious warm sunny day here but it’s still October 28th so my husband is putting the winter tires on the car today because temperatures will be dropping next week and this being Canada who knows when we might wake-up to a snow storm.
Hope you all have a good weekend.
Taylor Hisst is wonderful. I hope Candi was wearing armor, or at least gauntlets, as she put on the costume.
Remember how, all summer, I was living in moderate temps while the rest of you were suffering? Now the tables have turned! It’s snowing in my part of Colorado, probably all day. It’s not really sticking, but still. Fortunately my freezer and fridge are filled with good food and I can do a “lite” grocery run at Target, which is within walking distance.
It’s gonna be a lazy weekend: curling up in front of the fire with my knitting or spinning, hopefully weaving, maybe even sorting through all the handspun yarn (weighing, estimating length, and photographing for Ravelry) so I can finally put it away.
I envy you the fireplace! I have one—fake wood—but no one has used in 15 years and doesn’t work. Bummer.
Mine is gas, so it’s also fake wood, but it’s also maintenance free.
Taylor Hisst is divine and I’d go see a concert with her over her over-hyped doppelgänger. And like others I’m wondering how much blood was drawn in getting the costume on. Love hearing everyone’s weekend plans. We’re sorta warm and sunny today but then the heat gets turned up tomorrow along with lower humidity and winds. Fingers crossed the fires don’t get started. Not much going on here, ran errands this morning . And I got yelled at by a husky too. Walked by the dog and got a lot of high pitched wo wo wooos. First for me but I now know why they have a rep for back talking. Organizing and re-arranging furniture this afternoon. Might go do some window shopping and see if there’s any deals at the thrift store. Tomorrow is a car club event and more errands. Happy Spooky weekend everyone.
Cold, cough. Shoved Covid swab so far up my nose that I may have tested negative for a brain.
