So David got creative. โ€œI went out Monday morning and I got six chicks, because I thought maybe he would be happy if we put him in with some chicks,โ€ he says. โ€œHe did not like that. So the chicks did not like Kevin, and Kevin did not like the chicks. So now we have chicks in the other room growing up.โ€

It’s like a much cuter version of the old woman who swallowed a fly…

    • debg April 17, 2025 / 9:47 am

I love that shirt so much. And that family. And Kevin.

Love the guyโ€™s face as heโ€™s explaining his decision, and the exclamations as he shows the duck are priceless!

Poor lady, even if the airline doesn’t accept that it’s an emotional animal (an I know that some people abuse the concept) but you let them fly to Puerto Rico, there’s no reason for not letting them fly back.

    • allein ๐Ÿพ April 17, 2025 / 8:50 am

Presumably she flew on the same airline to get there…

      • Blue Footed Booby April 17, 2025 / 9:20 am

Could be that the crew let it slide on the way out, copped a complaint, and now are under the eye of corpo-sauron and can’t be as flexible.

        • debg April 17, 2025 / 9:48 am

That wouldn’t surprise me. But it’s still awful. I’m glad this lady and Plucky are home safe and sound.

        • Kar April 17, 2025 / 1:59 pm

Probably watching too much “To Catch a Smuggler” but apparently they use the elderly so smuggle in illegal pets .

So TSA may be especially sensitive to what’s coming into the country, not going out.

          • Blue Footed Booby April 18, 2025 / 9:55 am

Yeah, this is likely it, now that I think about it a bit more. I know they’re trained to, eg, search for incoming produce, for fear of introducing pests or diseases (and other reasons). But an outgoing passenger with a cucumber is the destination country’s problem.

    • debg April 17, 2025 / 9:47 am

      Agreed. That was just cruel.

    • Kar April 17, 2025 / 10:24 am

People abusing the Support Animal inclusion?

      Ya think?

      only in New York.

      • Ricky & Bibi's Mom April 17, 2025 / 12:37 pm

Except that it’s Newark, which is still officially in New Jersey.

Fun (?) fact: Peacocks cannot legally be kept as pets in New York State. I’m surprised by the number of non-native animals that can be kept as pets in NYS. Personally I can’t think of a good reason why anyone in New York should be allowed to have a pet kangaroo or wallaby.

I’ve no sympathy for anyone who tries to game the service animal system. Incidentally, ESAs are, by law, petsโ€”not psychiatric service animals. The latter is a legal category; the former is not. I have a lot of sympathy for the animals; it’s not their fault their humans are scuzzy creeps.

        Grumpily yours,

        Grumpy McGrumperson, Mayor of Grumpyville

        • debg April 17, 2025 / 1:30 pm

You also don’t need to certify ESAs. That’s a scam.

When I hung around at St. John the Divine back in the late 80s, early 90s, there were peacocks living on the grounds. They could scare the living crap out of you, letting off their screams. I could see carrying one around for personal protection.

          • SoccerSue April 17, 2025 / 5:56 pm

I’ve probably told this story before but someone dropped off 6 peacocks/peahens on our rural road a couple years ago…they’re now up to 13 and they’re just kinda…feral. They mainly hang out on the property down the hill from us, but they roam around all the properties on our little section of the road.

One of them has taken to roosting in the trees in our woods overnight. She managed to give me a minor heart attack the other morning when I was walking Julius (at 5:30 a.m. in the dark) around our property and she let out a scream. She was also screaming after each clap of thunder when we had a storm a few weeks ago. That was a long night, lol! They’re beautiful, but they’re dumb as a box of rocks.

            • debg April 17, 2025 / 6:16 pm

              Oh dear.

        • Kar April 17, 2025 / 5:07 pm

I remember feeling like newark airport was NYC’s by eminent domain.

I guess they really don’t like JFK or LaGuardia airports

          • debg April 17, 2025 / 5:42 pm

I always flew out of Newark back in the day. So much closer to Manhattan, and much less crowded, and often airfares were cheaper too.

    haha! I don’t know about that weird manage a trois . . .

  4. debg April 17, 2025 / 9:48 am

Interspecies cuddle puddle! That goose looks so happy.

  5. Kar April 17, 2025 / 10:21 am

And everywhere that Julia went, the lamb was sure to, well, you know.

    • debg April 17, 2025 / 6:17 pm

Haggis and Muffin are beyond adorable.

  6. Kar April 17, 2025 / 10:53 am

Oh, apparently its International Bat Appreciation Day.

  7. Duckie ๐Ÿฅ April 17, 2025 / 11:51 am

Today appears to be getting off to a strange start in Cutetropolis.

  8. AJ April 17, 2025 / 12:34 pm

Cat and duck video had me in hysterics and crying from laughing so hard. What is it about the goose that makes the cat lick it???? That is the funniest video I’ve seen a looong time. And who names a lamb Haggis?! That’s like naming a pig Pork Chop. Still the cutest little walking fluff bomb. Thank god my husband doesn’t come back from a lunch run with something besides the take out bag.

    • Ricky & Bibi's Mom April 17, 2025 / 12:40 pm

Remember the pig named Chris P. Bacon? Sadly no longer with us. He sure was a cutie, though.

    • allein ๐Ÿพ April 17, 2025 / 12:44 pm

Thank you, I didn’t realize it was a video. The little massager thing is hilarious.

Speaking of service animals, my parents went to my dad’s uncle’s funeral the other day (the last of 10 siblings to go, at age 94; just did the math – my grandmother, who died at 83 in 2001, was 13 years older), and there was a woman there with a service dog…my mom sent me a picture and it was a little black fluff (which I first guessed was maybe a miniature Schnauzer, though I now realize he was too small to be a full-grown one) in a little sling bag with a “working animal; do not pet” patch on it. She didn’t ask what service he provided, but he is a “teacup Yorkie/Poodle mix” named Harley Davidson!

    • AJ April 17, 2025 / 1:06 pm

Love the name but what is it with the smaller the dog, the “tougher” the name? Maybe it’s wishful thinking or hoping that the dog will live up to the hype? And can it work when it’s in a sling, must be an emotional support dog.

      • allein ๐Ÿพ April 17, 2025 / 1:15 pm

I was thinking that, or maybe it can detect low blood sugar or an oncoming seizure or something like that.

        • debg April 17, 2025 / 1:32 pm

The critters who can detect medical episodes for the hoomins are just amazing.

    • Kar April 17, 2025 / 1:54 pm

I had the world’s most amazing tuxie cat, had a cleft chin that Kirk Douglas would envy.

Anyway, my brother named her Harley because she had such a loud motor. My father went into a scary a$$ Harley Davidson shop filled with bikers to get her a pin.

Did not mention to the staff that it was for a 4 lb kitten

      • AJ April 17, 2025 / 2:42 pm

๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ Such a brave man your dad.

I also had a Harley cat, tiny grey tabby that lived extra large. He was the cat that would launch himself at the front door from across the room because he figured out he could open the door that way and have free rein to the front yard. Half the time if I couldn’t find him, I’d have to pull him out of the bushes. Harley also tried crawling out through the in-wall mail chute. Neighbors told me later (I was at work when this happened) that they heard meowing and all they saw was his head sticking out. And then there was the “Garfield” episode. Came home from work and he had climbed up the open window screen and got smushed between the upper glass and the screen. Good thing he wasn’t heavier or he probably would have popped out the screen. Such a goof ball bad ass character and gone way too soon at 6 months from cancer. Guess he got all his living in while he could. Still miss that fuzz ball and it’s been over 30 years.

        • Ricky & Bibi's Mom April 17, 2025 / 4:12 pm

I would say that Harley’s memory is a blessing, if ever there was one. What a character!

  10. Kar April 17, 2025 / 1:55 pm

Huh, I guess I am no longer a green looking germ/alien. Now I’m a potentially offensive facial something.

    • Ricky & Bibi's Mom April 17, 2025 / 4:11 pm

My avatar seems to have changed from green thingy to blue thingy. Not sure whether that qualifies as a glow-up.

      • Duckie ๐Ÿฅ April 17, 2025 / 4:43 pm

Same here. Iโ€™m no longer a slice of bread with grape jelly and a trunk. I want my old me back.

        • kar April 17, 2025 / 5:17 pm

I just don’t want to look like a S@mba doll.

And now you probably can’t unsee that.

  11. Dana April 17, 2025 / 3:58 pm

Ok, I read the first headline as โ€œGrandmother *strangled* with parrotโ€ฆโ€ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I thought well, this is an interesting choice to post on Cutetropolis. Glad I read that wrong!

Then I got to the mรฉnage a trois. Cat: hmmmm, tastes like chicken.

Thanks for todayโ€™s weirdness. Definitely needed! ๐Ÿ˜‚

    • debg April 17, 2025 / 5:44 pm

I only heard meows! Lavender was definitely interested in this strange cat.
