Weekend Open Thread

It’s such a nice day, so let’s take the Caturday open thread out on the road. Where shall we go?

It looks like Basket Cat can already smell the barbecue!

Yesterday I finally got around to the task of pulling up the grass and weeds growing in front of the houses on my street. Resplendent in my volunteer litter picker vest (and other clothing), I completely filled a huge bag with vegetation. Four residents came out to thank me and one of them gave me ยฃ5 “to buy yourself a drink!” Tomorrow, aches and pains permitting, I intend to chop down the nettles making inroads on two local footpaths.

Also, good news about the eye operation – it’s scheduled for the 29th of this month.

    • Elizabeth May 10, 2025 / 9:08 am

Take care, Alice. Hope all will go well. The 29th is my birthday. My wish will be for a good outcome for you.

    • Georgiana May 10, 2025 / 10:15 am

      Good luck on the operation!

    • Kar May 10, 2025 / 10:45 am

      Best wishes for the 29th!

    • Ricky & Bibi's Mom May 10, 2025 / 10:58 am

Hoping the eye operation gives you the perfect outcome. Good to know you have such nice neighbors!

You’re a good soul. I detest that sort of yard work.

Good luck with the eye surgery.

    • 6Rabbits May 10, 2025 / 3:18 pm

I, also, detest that kind of yard work! Brava to you tho๐Ÿ˜˜ and good luck on operation๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Happy Caturday! Not much going on. Going to my parents’ for Mother’s Day tomorrow. My mom says she wants pizza and card games. Work gave us each a small cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes for Mother’s Day so I’ll bring that with me.

    The dogs were good.
    I love Jumbo.
Also I would follow Nugget anywhere.

    • 6Rabbits May 10, 2025 / 10:31 am

Did that Dachshund puppy, Jumbo, get that name cos of the quite plump tummy?๐Ÿ˜˜ And Cashew, the sneezing Dachshund, is adorbs also! The exhausted Border Collie๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ. I donโ€™t want to imagine what circumstances made Tiki so scared, but Iโ€™m glad s/he has found a good home and friend๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

Can I go with kitty? I just want to go someplace coolish. Mother Nature doesn’t know what she wants. Early this week it was cool and rainy, now we’re hot and sunny. Its supposed to be in the 90’s today! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿฅต๐Ÿฅต So I was going to do some yard work but that might be postponed. Off to finish up some laundry and then to breakfast. And after that, I think it’s a go-with-the-flow kind of day. Happy weekend everyone!

  4. Kar May 10, 2025 / 11:08 am

    What a sweet face.

doing a zoom about maintaining brain health while we age. need to clean the house later.

    Such fun!

  5. Georgiana May 10, 2025 / 11:11 am

I see the weather isn’t just acting up here, this week from one day to the next we had short weather and warm coat weather and even a big rain storm so strong we couldn’t see the other side of the street at times! Personally I think Mother Nature needs a vacation.

Speaking of vacation we haven’t gone anywhere for a few years now but now that we don’t have to be home to give Minnie her medication twice a day we are starting to look at little one or two days trips. Stuff that involver maybe just staying over one night.

I wouldn’t want to leave Storm and Skye alone longer than that even if someone came to feed them, Skye would probably tear the house apart to show her displeasure! ๐Ÿ˜‚

I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Yesterday was cool and rainy (though not cool enough to really need a jacket; I was wearing a hoodie and was fine for the few minutes I was actually outside). Today’s high is supposed to be 70 but it’s not supposed to get there until around 4pm. It’s 61 now at 11:15am.

    • 6Rabbits May 10, 2025 / 3:20 pm

Weather has been all over the place here as well. We are predicted in high 80s this next week. I keep thinking โ€œWe are in MAY, right?โ€

    Happy Saturday, everyone.
Iโ€™d like to get a PSA over with first. If sending something to Canada from the states, or purchasing anything from anywhere that must go through the states to get to Canada, check regulations about tariffs. Deb has sent me a box of her yarns, and wrote the value of it on the form. Even though it is a gift, they added a tariff on.
    PSA over.
The weather here has been the same as everywhere else. Warm and sunny one day, cold and wet the next. Balmy breezes go straight to bitter winds.
Little Duckie has learned to say please when she wants some graham cracker. Little Duckie has also taken a violent dislike to one of our local realtorโ€™s pictures in the newspaper. She will single out the image, and neatly poop on it. As I dislike this realtor myself, I have no objections. I may sent her a paper from Duckieโ€™s cage one day, to show my feelings.
Nearing the end of my spring to-do list, and feeling good about it.
Off to the grocery store. Have a great weekend, everyone.

    • DEBG May 10, 2025 / 12:29 pm

I second Duckie’s PSA. Mark the value of any gift sent from US to Canada as $1.00. That would have avoided extra charges.

  7. DEBG May 10, 2025 / 12:36 pm

Happy Caturday, everyone! Kitty in a basket looks so happy to be outside. It will be close to 80 today, and 85 tomorrow! So I’ll take my outside walk today, thank you very much.

I’m in the final stages of my yarn stash overhaul–marking what I’ve kept in a spreadsheet, so I can then adjust my Ravelry stash. Five more bins to go for the knitting yarns. (Then comes weaving yarns and spinning fiber). Once the knitting yarn bins are put away, I can reach the warping board and start prepping for my next weaving project. I’m also in this weird knitting place where I don’t have a big project on the needles: first I have to dye a bunch of handspun that has been sitting for YEARS. In other words, I have nothing on my looms, nothing on my needles, and just one spinning project to keep me going. My life feels kinda pointless without a bunch of projects.

    Hugs to you all.

Aw, Doug. Of course he should be included. A distinguished CEO, how could you not?

The Kiffness will be performing in NYC in six days, for one night only, but alas, the venue does not have seating, only standing. I can’t stand up for the duration of a concert; it’s a tossup whether my lower back or hips would give up first. I’m so disappointed! I wonder who thought this arrangement was a good idea. I’m guessing they’re no older than half my age.

    • allein ๐Ÿพ May 10, 2025 / 1:24 pm

Aw, that would be cool to see him. I saw Lindsey Stirling at a standing-only venue and it was annoying. I could see her better on the phone of the person taking video behind me than actually on stage. Plus some frat-boy looking guy next to me kept moving into my space. I may have “accidentally” elbowed him in the ribs at one point. After that he ended up more in front of me, blocking my view even more but at least I wasn’t getting pushed every two seconds. On the up side, I didn’t pay for the ticket (my friend’s husband wasn’t feeling well and she texted me in the afternoon to see if I wanted to come and wouldn’t let me pay for it; she just wanted the ticket not to be wasted). I don’t dislike her music but I’m not exactly a fan, either, so I wouldn’t have wanted to go otherwise. That was probably 12 years ago, at least. I definitely wouldn’t want to do it now.

    • 6Rabbits May 10, 2025 / 3:31 pm

Young, mobile people, thatโ€™s who! My lower back would not make it either.

    • DEBG May 10, 2025 / 5:17 pm

Even when I was young, every time I traveled to London, I got seats at the Globe Theatre. With a cushion. No standing up for me!

      • Ricky & Bibi's Mom May 10, 2025 / 5:36 pm

Thanks, all! I find it comforting that I’m not the only one who thinks standing for a whole concert is not a great idea. But I’m still sad I won’t get to hear the Kiffeness live. I love his stuff.

  11. allein ๐Ÿพ May 10, 2025 / 2:01 pm

    Last one, I promise.

    • Duckie ๐Ÿฅ May 10, 2025 / 3:19 pm

It better NOT be the last one!

      • allein ๐Ÿพ May 10, 2025 / 3:47 pm

I just meant for today, but if you insist…I did see a girl at Starbucks a few weeks ago wearing a similar shirt to this sticker (the font was different and hers didn’t have the doggie picture but the wording was the same).

(I have an email draft called “Open thread stuff” where I collect cute links I come across during the week. Sometimes I submit them to Mike but others I just save for Caturday.)

        • DEBG May 10, 2025 / 5:26 pm

Just recently, I saw a “Tell your cat I said pspspspspspspsp” sticker on a car. Maybe Matt and the team have branched out?

    • 6Rabbits May 10, 2025 / 3:37 pm

      That cat is too adorable!๐Ÿ’™

I want that kitten. Such a handsome boy! His review was hilarious.

    Hi Everyone,
Allergies still have me pretty incapacitated but I’ve got to run some errands, pay some bills, and grade some projects.

We have a puzzle table at work in the break room. I bought the puzzle from We Rate Dogs in December, but when we got back from the holiday break, someone beat me in putting out a new puzzle. They put out a Joseph Stella flower puzzle that was so. freaking. difficult! I finally stood in front of it last week for half an hour and finished it. HooRay! Usually we leave a puzzle alone for a week so we can just admire our handy work, but since I feel like I put most of this one together, and I didn’t want to bet beat out again, Tuesday morning I broke the Stella puzzle down and started the Good Dogs. It’s very cute, and I think we’ll have this one finished much quicker. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyone else not getting email notifications about posts? I haven’t received any for most of this week.

    • allein ๐Ÿพ May 10, 2025 / 2:13 pm

I’ve been getting notifications like normal..
