I was chocked at how calm the albatross was about the lady taking the hatchling from the nest without ant protest at all.
In the comments I found that they have no natural predators on lands so they don’t have the instinct to be afraid and also that generations of these birds have been picked up and weighed that’s why they are so trusting.
New Zealand is truly an amazing place.
Me too! And I don’t think I ever had a real perspective on how big they are. I know they are one of the largest birds (largest wing span?), but next to a human one really gets the full scale. Amazing.
I also did not realize how large they are! You see them flying and there’s no comparison (no flying 🍌) to help you. That interaction was just amazing! Imagine being asked about your job and replying “I take care of Albatrosses and their babies!”
They’re also some of the most efficient fliers!
As I kid I watched…I think it was The Rescuers: Down Under. It had a gag where an albatross comes in for a landing, and they play it like a 747 coming down on a runway for bush planes lol.
Loved those movies growing up.
My visit there was one of the greatest thrills–and disappointments–of my life. It was lovely, but I didn’t get to see anything outside of walking distance.
Louie’s story really got to me😢 It is so horrible that he was previously kept in a cage so small he can’t extend his wings, even just to glide! I’m so glad he finally has a home where he is loved!💗

Big question for trucking kitty – where the heck do they put the litter box?? I kept watching the video to see if they explained that but nothing. C’mon! Inquiring minds want to know. Spinning kitty wasn’t too sure about the whole thing and then when the other cat showed up, he’s like, hey dude, you okay there?? Not really, stop this crazy ride, I wanna get off!!
🤣 The litter box never crossed my mind! Maybe behind the seat and immediately cleaned? That’s how I’d do it anyway…
