Weekend Open Thread

It’s time for the Caturday open thread, and joining us is Skye, showing us once again that cats are liquid. “This is Skye’s idea of a comfy position to sleep in,” says reader Georgiana Y.

    Good morning everyone,

I hope you enjoy a view of Skye’s fluffy belly, it’s too bad that you can’t reach into the screen because her fur is very soft and she would love a belly rub from each of you.

The smoke from the wild fires in the west has finally reached us in Quรฉbec yesterday, we are being advised to stay indoors and keep windows closed so I’ll be imitating Skye and turn myself into a blob with a good book for the best part of the day.

In other news I went for my yearly eye exam on Thursday and everything is fine, there’s no damage to the retina from the diabetes. My vision has changed so little that I could have kept my current glasses but the anti-reflection on the lenses is damaged, so I chose a new frame and I should have my new glasses in 3 weeks!

Well that’s it for me, I hope everyone is safe and has a good weekend!

So sorry about the smoke! That’s miserable stuff! And congrats on all the good news for your eyes. Give Skye’s belly a big snorgle from me.

It never ceases to amaze me the positions cats will sleep in. Dogs do some weird poses, but cats take the cake!

Have couple of Blue Jays squawking at each other this morning, hopping around between fir tree and lilac bush. Very intense and responsive. Wonder if this is the prequel to some baby jays? Iโ€™ve already had 3 broods of different birds from my fir tree this year. Babies are LOUD!

Deep cleaning the kitchen today๐Ÿฅด I REALLY want a kitchen that cleans itself! Someone needs to invent it!

I have two new bird baths to orient this weekend. One for the front, with a solar sprinkler I already had. Sun all day out front. And a 3โ€ deep one for bird bathing in the back. I hate to see the bigger birds struggle in my small fountain. Have plastic ladder with holes to put in for butterflies and bees to drink.

Bee ladder is a new one for me!

My college mascot is the Blue Jay. (His name is Blue. Very creative.) According to the student handbook, they are “scrappy fighting birds.

What a cutie but how is that even comfortable?? If I slept like that, I would need a chiro to untangle me, lol.

Sorry to hear that the smoke has hit your area Georgiana but any excuse is a good excuse to stay inside with a book. I need to get over to see my eye dr as I think my glasses aren’t strong enough now. Too much computer time and reading is doing a number on my eyes. I’ll look into that next month. This month I finally worked up the courage to get myself to the dentist. It hasn’t been too long but I got fed up with the last dentist trying to push procedures on me and dealing with their billing. It always seemed to be higher than they estimated or not covered by my insurance so it cost more out of pocket. We’ll see how this one is.

Today is breakfast at my favorite old school coffee shop then a haircut. Maybe I’ll check out a few thrift stores on the way home. Tomorrow is errands, some painting, and depending on the weather I need to get out and do yardwork. Happy June everyone!

Skye’s left rear leg appears to be fully conscious with a mind of it’s own – I can imagine it sinking gently down onto the cushion as Slumber Level reaches Maximum!

I too have good health-related news. The liver situation remains stable so the steroid dosage has been reduced, and my left eye feels much more comfortable but still looks like a cheap special effect.

In other news, I’ve decided to book for some upcoming shows at Stratford-upon-Avon at the end of the year when my pension will be just a couple of months away. They are ‘Macbeth’ with Sam Heughan (Jamie in ‘Outlander’) and Lia Williams (Wallis Simpson in ‘The Crown’), and a two-part adaptation of ‘The Forsyte Saga’ with Joseph Millson as Soames Forsyte. Mr Millson may not be a household name but he’s probably the best Benedick I’ve ever seen. I was sorely tempted by a new version of ‘Cyrano de Bergerac’ starring Adrian Lester, but I forced myself to exercise some self-control…

I think it is totally cool you are able to go to so many plays.โ˜บ๏ธ Thatโ€™s just not an American thing, unless you live in a big city. And we have no excellent train service like Britain, so if you donโ€™t live close, itโ€™s a no-go.

    • Georgiana June 7, 2025 / 10:35 am

I’m so jealous of you going to see so many plays I’m about to turn orange ๐Ÿ˜‰
(I bet you guess my favourite Shakespeare play LOL!!)

Happy Caturday! Skye looks so weirdly comfortable, and as beautiful as always.

I’m off to the Estes Park Wool Market in a few minutes. I was up there yesterday for an amazing workshop on drum carding; now I’m going back with a friend to see all the fiber critters and do just a little more shopping. The workshop had me on my feet for very long stretches, and my feet were KILLING me by the end of the day. That may be a good thing, as it will cut down on today’s shopping! (Workshop attendees got a sneak peek last night but I kept my purchases modest.)

    Hugs to you all.

Have fun! Buy something exotic and tell us all about it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Skye – you sweet girl. I kind of wish I had some 3D glasses for that back leg – It’s like I could just reach out and touch it!

Allein? Where you at? I’m jonesin’ for the Good Dogs. I hope you are taking advantage of a well deserved sleep in. Or something equally enjoyable. ๐Ÿฅฐ

I was woken up early this morning by an emergency text that there is a huge fire 8 blocks practically directly to the west of me. That explained why I was dreaming of BBQ. It’s out now, but there is still an air quality advisory. Bummer, I was going to go tackle some more gardening. Maybe I’ll just settle for picking raspberries. I was only able to do half the bushes last night.

A friend is coming today to pick up all of my bee equipment. Its the end of that era for me. I really loved having them, but I just couldn’t keep them alive through the winter. That was really devastating. This friend, apparently, has sun all day all year. They want to put the boxes on the half roof of the kitchen. Fingers crossed its protected from wind and is able to keep the girls alive over the winter.

Have a great weekend all! โค๏ธ

Sorry I’m late, Tara. I did sleep in a little. This week was kinda hellish at work but it’s over. I did work in the evening at home twice, and I went into the office on Friday because my boss was also there (usually we are both home on Friday of the first week of the month). At least the noisiest ones were home so it was pretty quiet.

As an apology for my lateness, please accept these good dogs.

    • Tara June 7, 2025 / 11:22 am

oh – I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to shame you. Thank you for the good dogs! To be honest, I actually worry when you don’t arrive like clockwork. I’m glad you were able to sleep in a little after your busy week!

      • allein ๐Ÿพ June 7, 2025 / 11:25 am

Don’t worry, I didn’t feel shamed. I have actually been up since about 8:30 but I hadn’t checked email yet.

Also, facebook served up these hatching baby bluebirds this morning.

okay good ๐Ÿ™‚ and this video is amazing!
