Large statues like that generally have maintenance requirements, and thus have access shafts, stairs, ladders, etc. Think statue of liberty.

Loved the piece on Jane Goodall, and it made me tear up. What an amazing person in every way.

She was! Such an extraordinary person! She made major jumps in our understanding of animals, which is, I think, why so many people have come to love watching animals and are now always looking for what they can do.๐
I was just watching the “A Closer Look” segment from Seth Meyers’ show last night and he made a joke about the people complaining about Bad Bunny doing the Super Bowl halftime show; he suggested they could watch the Puppy Bowl instead, but the halftime show would be an actual bad bunny. ๐
The Puppy Bowl people need to do this. ๐ฐ

I think I imprinted on Jane Goodall and Jacques Cousteau though all those National Geographic documentaries (and the magazine articles articles, and their books too, when I got old enough), so much so that it is not always easy to realize that not everyone has internalized her worldview as deeply as I have, and are not so steeped in it’s meaning.
I know I found it a huge turnoff when I was told that to do important science, you were supposed to turn off all that emotional stuff….and how liberating it was to realize later on how utterly wrong that was, and how right Jane always was, and continued to be, right up to the day she died.
This video is a GREAT introduction to the impact of her work. I will bookmark it to share with others who might not have been lucky enough to grow up with a role model like her.

the more I learned about Goodall’s work, the less evolved I viewed humans.
