Links: Whatever You Do, Don’t Play Dead

A man wearing gray shorts and a red shirt squats down and holds his arms outstretched. In front of him a large vulture stands on the ground and spreads its wings.

And finally: Wiggly Wombat!

My friend got to pet a capybara in Florida a few weeks ago…no babies, though.

    “a high-speed scamper” 😄😄 (we need a wombat emoji)

Good Morning, It is an absolute mess out there in Philly today! Thank goodness for the cute for breaks today. I’m wearing my mom’s beautiful Icelandic sweater. She bought it in the 1960’s on a visit, at the last minute before the ferry was to depart. I’ve always loved it, but it was far too warm to wear in Southern California. I treasure it now, 65 years later.
    Hope everyone stays warm today!

I’m working from home today and tomorrow, thankfully. But yesterday I took the longer highway route to and from work because I figured it’d be less likely to have icy areas. In the morning there were a few iffy spots but mostly it was fine. The worst were a couple of turn lanes that weren’t totally clear so you couldn’t move all the way over, and one ramp that had a lot of drifted snow in it (but packed down by traffic so it wasn’t slippery). In some places I honestly couldn’t tell if I was seeing snow or sand. On the way home there was so much traffic it took me almost an hour to get home and about 20 minutes of it was on the relatively short stretch between work and the NJ Turnpike (that would take a few minutes without traffic, and 30-40 minutes total). Once I got past there it was fine. Also my boss did not make us switch a day if we were supposed to be in the office on Monday, and allowed those who were supposed to be home anyway to switch a day so everyone only has two office days for the week (he’s big on fairness like that).

Stay safe, if you’re dealing with snowy/icy roads! I’m thankful that we didn’t get hit hard last weekend. The roads are in pretty good shape.

agree that its better to be safe than sorry.

also, if you couldn’t get salt/sand but have extra (clean) kitty litter, its good to keep in your trunk with winter emergency stuff.

can be used for traction if slipping on ice.

I made the mistake of peeking at the kittens, and now my brain is mush. Armful of cuteness! OMG!

Will save the baby capys for later, as my brain can’t handle any more cute at work.

I stoated early today (state senate special election). Although considering the snow, it was a bit more like ermining.

The Bella rescue/adoption was wonderful. Bella loves her new people so much. Her prior people did not deserve her
