It’s National Panda Day!

Today’s the day we celebrate these living teddy bears. They’re extremely cute, especially when they’re young…

Buh-bye, Bao Bao

As noted earlier this week, Bao Bao is leaving the National Zoo for China. Due to an international agreement, all pandas born in America must go to China before their fourth birthday, and so last Tuesday the Smithsonian’s beloved panda boarded a crate, sat quietly with frozen treat, and began the long journey to a homeland she has never known.

“I got to see Bao Bao when she was a wee cub when she first went outside,” writes sender-inner Laura H. “I met my boss at the zoo and we joined the throngs to see her, on a lovely cold, snowy day. Time sure flies!”

You’re Pulling My Leg

In a scene that could have come from a classic slapstick comedy, this determined little panda just wants to hang onto the zoo worker setting out the morning’s bamboo.

And finally: Tiny Titan

In Marvel comics, Thanos is a titanic megavillian, but this Thanos is much smaller and cuter. He’s a Kirk’s dik-dik, one of the world’s smallest breeds of antelope. Fully grown, he’ll be less thn 16 inches tall and at the moment he’s too light to register on the zoo’s scales. Thanks to submitters Paul P. and Arne. More details at The Telegraph.
