Quokkabat!

Shout-outs to Sharon and Margaret for using the tip jar! Thank you!

In the comments for the post with the quokka, there was a suggestion that such a thing as a “Quokkabat” (a combination of quokka and wombat) would be a good idea, and then I said that it sounded like a quokka with bat wings, and then reader Haha decided to create some proof-of-concept artwork, and here you go:

Peek-a-Boo!

In Australia, land of kangaroo,
They surely know a thing or two
Of critters cute and kooky too
With bills and quills and parts askew
Whose babies hide in pockets through
Which they peek and stare at you.
There are some dangerous creatures, true,
Who’ll hunt you down and pounce and chew
You into bits. It’s what they do.
But that’s a genre we eschew
And stay true to our cute purview
In which the quokka rules the zoo
O’er koala, wombat and emu.
For these can simply not outdo
Its grin at once calm and cuckoo
To cheer the heart that’s feeling blue.
And with a little one in the crew
Your sated soul will soar anew
As mama’s pouch he jumps into
Then turns and teases “peek-a-boo!”
