Maru, Catfish

These fishy patterned bags look reel comfy. Even a cat who tips the scales like Maru is hooked. Maybe now he won’t carp about having nothing colorful to wear.

Another quality fin, er find, from Andrew Y.

He just can’t resist trying out the bags. And why should he?

I noticed that he avoided the striped bag, which is kind of a missed opportunity, since vertical stripes are slimming.

Maybe Maru understands this with his own fur stripes and just wanted to try on other scales for weight.

Maybe he thought it would clash with his coat?

I guess he saved the striped bag for Hana. One thing I wonder: What does Maru and Hana’s person do for a living that affords them a lovely house like that? And I still want to get that stuffed cow with the world map markings….

Where’s Hanna? That would’ve been prime tail whomping time!

I love how the human came up with a blocking method for bag sliding. The long stick did the job.

I enjoyed Maru’s first try with the bag pulling his eyes open. Too funny.

He’s so comfy! I think he’d stay there all day if he didn’t have a pressing engagement with that duckie.

Maru could start a whole new industry—cats that gift wrap themselves!

How appropriate that they were carp bags — May 5 is Children’s Day in Japan, when carp streamers are flown and children are celebrated. It used to be just Boys’ Day, and Girls’ Day was celebrated on March 3, but they were combined a while back. Girls’ Day was celebrated with charming little doll figures, and we have a set of antique Girls’ Day dolls that we just love. I really should get a picture of them.

And I have a very important question: Why is it SO interesting to watch a silly cat, day after day, month after month, year after year, climb inside boxes and bags? Over and over and over and over and over and over again? I mean, it totally IS, but what I’m wondering is WHY?
