Maru puts in a lot of effort to crawl into this box and claim it as his own, but when Hana wants to move in with him, Maru decides it’s not special anymore. Later, the box claims Maru!
Thanks to Andrew Y. for the single funniest Maru moment yet.

Just when I’m convinced that Maru has reached his limit in cuteness, orneryness, and funnyness, another video emerges that blows that thought out of the water. How his human does not erupt in laughter is beyond me!
Was my birthday yesterday, and seeing the end of this video was the perfect present >:3 XD
Happy birthday! This blog would not be as good without your input, especially Maru!
Thanks >:3
Always enjoy sending stuff in! :3
Happy Birthday, Andrew, and thanks for all your contributions.
I love the disappearing tail. And I don’t remember ever seeing Maru so energetic as he was trying to get into this box!
Thanks! π
Hey Happy Birthday Andrew! I hope you had a wonderful day!

Thanks so much! π
Happy birthday, Andrew!
Thanks so much! >:3
I love so much about this clip (of course!) but my favorite is that Maru has made a tiny hole on one flap that the tails can slip through so smoothly. Also the suspense of waiting for Maru to swipe at Hana’s nose when she first starts snooping on top of the box.
AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY Andrew. ??
Thank you! :3
Hippo birdie, Andrew! And thanks for sharing your present with us.
Thank you! >:3
I still wonder why she hasn’t made a Maru plushie yet π
Other people have made her a plushie, and Maru and Hana pillows, but nothing for sale to the public yet…
Hana talks! I don’t think I’ve ever heard her talk before. Also, I like how she gets out the hard way.
I wonder if Maru climbed out after the box ate him or if he just said, “this is good” and went back to sleep…
Happy Birthday, Andrew!
So nice, thank you! :3
I like how Hana is the typical little sister, you can almost hear her saying:
What are you doing in there Maru? Can I come in? Can I? Oh it’s dark in here! Hey where are you going? Hey! Wait I’m coming out too!
They are both so cute and funny! ?
We really need a loop of the Maru-devouring incident.
I swear I heard the box yelling, Feed Me Maru!
Maybe Maru gets hacked back up as a giant furball!
The box has its revenge for all box-kind on Maru! And the World Map Cow was a witness to it all. [Happy Belated Birthday Andrew]
Thank you :3
Happy birthday, Andrew!
I love that Maru chewed a perfect tail-sized hole in one flap. Cat engineering at its finest.
Thanks π
Happy (belated) birthday, Andrew – thank you for being our Maru&Hana Correspondent!
Any time! >:3 thank you!
I think I once heard a director say (possibly of filming the babies in “Raising Arizona”?) that you direct babies by turning the camera on and waiting until they do what you need. A similar strategy is necessary with animals. Yes, Mugumogu often sets up situations, but after that, she just has to leave the camera on and wait. That’s never seemed truer than the last part of this clip. Unless Maru had already fallen in once and she figured he’d do it again (which is possible, but I doubt), this was pure chance; she couldn’t have guessed it would happen. She just had to leave the camera on and see if something cute would happen, even though Maru was merely napping on top of a seemingly sturdy box. And it did.
Also, dogs and cats really aren’t all that smart, are they? One side of the box top is loose, the other is taped down, and the first inclination of both of them is to stand on the loose side and try to raise the taped side. I’m not sure they ever did figure it out, I think they just kept trying till they raised the loose side accidentally. And, as previously noted, Hana insisted on getting out the hard way — squeezing under the taped side. It reminds me of dogs trying to carry a long stick through a gate — they never think to turn it sideways. Things that seem obvious to us are a mystery to them. Any raven could figure out a puzzle like that. And yet … they are smarter than we are in some ways, so I guess it’s a matter of different abilities, or different specialties.
I half expected the box to burp! Or lick its ‘lips’.
