The Amazon. Mysterious. Aloof. Daunting. Along with the Yangtze and the Danube, one of the tallest mountains in the world. It is this challenge that drives Maru ever upward. Departing from base rug at dawn, Maru makes his way up the slanted south face to the summit. After a series of setbacks, the brave explorer stands triumphant.
An inspiration to us all, Andrew Y.
Wait…what!? Maru is a… she?
Forgive me, I gave Maru an accidental sex change in my commentary. Maru is a “he” again.
Tallest mountains? Are you saying my geography lessons in school lied to me?
“Of course, the Volga, which, as you know, starts in…”
“Vladivostok, and ends in…”
“Wimbledon.”

Someone really needs to talk to Amazon about the quality of their boxes for Maru’s purposes. They seem entirely inadequate.

Maru should be their quality control expert.
That is an unsatisfactory box, Maru should ask for a full refund!
Mike, you left out the colossally tall Hudson.
Kinda cramped at the summit there. And slippery from the chill winds. Can’t summit long at that elevation. What, no ???
Actually, Maru isn’t Japanese. He comes from (wait for it) Mauritania.
That’s OK, I’ll see myself out.
Of course! How silly of me!
Be sure to try the veal.
Reminds me of my woefully fat cat* who gets on the bed this way, with maximum struggle. It is a low bed.
*She is on a diet. It is not having any effect.
I’m in the same boat. Actually, it’s my cat in the boat, and she’s sinking it.
When I slide down things, I’m not nearly so graceful. Or so sanguine.
Don’t forget that the distant sound of drumbeats usually spell trouble on the Amazon. Maru is announcing his own impending doom!
But has he explored the depths of Lake Fuji, or the length of the Kilimanjaro River…?
OW! ? When the box fell over, I snerked a purple Smarties out my nose! I was not expecting an Amazon box to fail in this way.
That snide little smirky smile on the box taunts Maru constantly. But he did well tho’ he didn’t stick his landing. I could almost hear an “uh oh” when he seemed safely ensconced then his leg started to slip.
I was hoping his mom would come to the rescue and turn it over so the ‘good’ side was up. Those floppy flaps did him in. The bottom was still taped so it was good to go!!
I came. I saw. I conquered. I slid. ..
We all have to deal with the inevitable slide at some point. May it be toward a soft carpet like Maru’s.
She usually gives him less-damaged boxes to explore. I wonder, did she actually damage that box removing the contents (I also wonder, does she order stuff she doesn’t need purely to get the boxes because she needs props? — but I digress) or did she damage it on purpose because she figured he needed a challenge? I criticized Maru’s intelligence on a recent box challenge (when he stood on the flap that wasn’t taped down and tried to lift the one that was taped down) but this time he gets it right — he did find the most structurally sound corner. However, it wasn’t big enough for him to get comfortable (because he’s a sizable cat!) and he does love to get comfortable. So in the end his sound structural judgment did him no good.
He really needed the assistance of Sherpa Hana.
That would be great – I could totally see her shouldering him up the slope! Stay tuned for “Maru Wants to Get on the Box, Part 2”.
