Here’s a side of Maru we rarely get to see: the underside. Both Maru and Hana get a thorough brushing, and this gives us an intimate look at Maru’s fluffy belly, his toebeans, and that thing on his nose.
Thanks to submitters Andrew Y and Daniel C.

I’m more of a Hana than a Maru type personality, that boy knows how to relax! Such lovely toe beans 🙂
Maru enjoys getting brushed about as much as any creature on earth can enjoy anything.
Maru: slow rolls, reverse-sploots, and lazy stretches
Hana: I prefer to be actively involved in my brushings!
Hana, like my cats, chews the brush. What is up with that?
I love how Maru just soaks up the relaxation while Hana continues bathing herself before trying to eat the brush.
But what is that thing on the nose? Looks like an owie! Hope it’s not serious!
And yeah what about that blissed out look…I need that…!!
No, he’s had that thing on his nose all along. I think it’s just a dark spot. I’ve noticed it in the past, but it’s always there and never changes that I can tell.
A freckle!
I always thought of it as a freckle before, but today’s extreme closeup makes it look more like a tumor. Do cats get skin cancer? Is he outdoors more than a few minutes a week? I’m sure she takes them to the vet. She takes excellent care of them every other way.
Very meditative watching kitties being brushed.
Lazy stretches <3
I nearly zonked out during this. Forget meditation, maybe I should just watch Maru getting brushed whenever I need some Zen.
And, I think his nose thingy is just a mole, Dulcie. It’s been there in every video/Instagram/blog photo I’ve seen.
Well that shows you how observant I am! I guess I am too distracted by the swishy tail. I never noticed the mole before.
I always thought it was just a dot of color – it’s only in this extreme close-up video that I see it’s a little raised.
I love his luxurious hind-leg stretch around 2:00!
Yes, that was the bit that knocked me out – the swishy tail and the luxuriant leg stretch! And it is indeed meditative to watch Maru being brushed, he loves it so.
And it would seem that MuguMogu’s (sp?) sweater has been used as a scratching post!
That was very relaxing and soothing. Maru’s belly has some beautiful coloring on it, as do his toe beans. And his little nose-mole is cute. Hana’s chewing the brush was funny at the end. And the sunlight highlighted her lovely green eyes.
If only my late Daisy had enjoyed being brushed. It was all purring and head-butting for the first fifteen seconds or so, then it was time for a spot of the old ultra-violence.
That thing on his nose is his Cindy Crawford beauty spot.
This is a very soothing video, thank you!
I have a question. Since all our Maru and Hana videos seem to be found by Andrew Y (? with a little help from his friends ?), is it remotely possible that either Andrew Y knows Mugumogu, or maybe even IS?
Nope XD No idea who (I assume she) is.
I assume this is Mugumogu cleaning Maru, and not the one behind the camera, because I remember Mugumogu said he’s shy around other people XD
I send ’em in because I check Maru’s blog/instagram …a bit too often =X
? lol
Just teasing.
Oh, I’m still suspicious (wink wink).
Andrew, thanks for introducing me to Rocket News, by the way – I’ve become a big fan of Mr. Sato and his adventures.
He seems like a really nice guy, too 😀

Too bad I’m so far from Japan…
I love this old video! You can almost hear Maru saying “come on Ma, stop it, that tickles!”. And, he looks so big and extra fluffy.
He is such a big fluff ball. And notice that he has the coloration on his nose back then and there’s no change in it. It’s just like the change of colors on his toe beans – as someone said, a freckle or beauty mark – I prefer the latter!
That was very relaxing. I think I dozed too.
