Happy weekend, Cutetropolitans! Reader Squiddy shares photos of her cats Nefertiti and Seymour, two kittens who are into knittin’: “Sending over a cute pic of my little girl Nefertiti, who had taken over my knitting basket with her adorable floofiness.”
“Well, now little Seymour wants to get into the act. They may not get along well yet (my life’s greatest disappointment), but he still idolizes her.”
What beautiful cats and I love the names! Cats do have the habit of sitting wherever they want, whenever they want and hoomins be damned.
Survived the kiddie invasion on Halloween and our haunted back yard was a hit. Then last night we hosted our monthly neighborhood get together. That was a blast, got to meet more neighbors and just hang out and relax after the work week.
Now comes the fun part, taking down all the decorations and finding room to store them. I have a feeling we might be getting a storage unit as our garage is pretty full right now with the vehicles and other boxes. Need to get hubby to go through his boxes and see if there’s anything that can go. But first breakfast, a little shopping, then a haircut later.
Have a great weekend and for my US friends, don’t forget to put your clocks back tonight. (I know, already???)
Aw, pretty kitties.
Today my parents’ church is doing photos for their directory, and they can also buy packages for themselves so my mom is taking the opportunity to have a family photo done (even though my brother and I do not go to church). So I will have to look nice and hopefully keep my hair looking decent in the windy day outside.
Other than that, this weekend is all fun and games, like laundry and dishes.
Saturday got off to a good start with the arrival of a thick magazine, the cover of which was adorned with a baffling photo of an astronaut floating in space and holding a lettuce. On closer inspection it proved to be Suttons 2019 Seed Catalogue, and the adventurous vegetable turned out to be “OutREDgeous – stunning red romaine variety – as grown in space!” I can honestly say that of all the qualities I look for in a lettuce an extra-terrestrial origin isn’t one of them, but at least it’s “easy to grow in low or artificial light”.
Absolutely stunning kitties. I love the colouring.
Rather painful start to day as my right hip announced it wanted to stay in bed. However, I am completely off the prednisone and waiting to see what happens next. And that might be contributing to the hip, as well as the DREADFULLY soggy weather, so I will ride it out.
Have a great weekend everyone, and hopefully next week will be drier here.
Duckie. With me it’s the left hip! We’d make one healthy mobile person.
Why?
Because science!

Beautiful kitkats! Don’t let them frog your projects, Squiddy!
I’m in Detroit until tomorrow visiting family. The big party (29 people) was last night, so we’re just sitting around watching my dad snore at college football today. It’s going to be great to get home; I hate being away from my furbabies.
Hapy days to you all!
Good day for Millie and I. We have the house to ourselves until 8:00 pmish. So…
Cooking! Did four quarts of Italian Wedding Soup. Came out fantastic for first try. Some tinkering next time. Used precooked frozen meatballs. Heated in oven. Cooled then cut up and heated through in soup. Saved so much time. I am cooling the soup to bag and refrigerate then freeze.
Tomorrow I’m alone from 12-5:30. I am cooking Bokchoy with sautéed mushrooms and beef!
I have found premeasured cauliflower rice meals at fresh direct. They package almost all the ingredients. I add some seasoning and cooked garlic chicken breasts. I eat some and freeze some. So easy. Stovetop sauté.
I’m buying duck breast for Thanksgiving. I found a pan seared method. I get old fashioned canned cranberry sauce, canned gravey. This year I found salted caramel apple pie. I’m freezing the pie and duck until the Tuesday before the holiday. Then I’m cooking Tuesday night and pigging out through Friday! I’ll prob thaw soup as my vegetables.
Making progress in ups and downs with therapy and art classes.
My official diagnosis has solidified as classic agoraphobia, classic ptsd and a mild form of dissociative identity disorder. That last bit was a surprise as my Doctor and I couldn’t pin it down until I noticed it was going away.
I am sharing here as an example of not giving up if you need therapy or know someone who is trying to get better. It takes expert help and takes years to understand yourself.
I was very lucky and managed to get an education and to work. I have met people online who are experiencing full blown ptsd with or without full blown split personality. I’m like a light version in comparison. Thank God.
One benefit: great visuals for my art!
Fantastic black kitties. Very tempting to get a house panther after Millie passes. Hopefully not for 15 years or so.
Hugs to all.
Thank you for sharing your diagnosis Faye. I know how tough that can be and also the stigma that mental disorders still have. I’m glad you found a good therapist to help you work through everything and you’re getting better. As someone who suffers from anxiety and some disassociation symptoms, some days it takes all you effort just to get out of bed and out the door. As I tell myself, just keep plugging along.
That is really interesting, Faye. The way the human brain reacts and adjusts to our life experiences is absolutely fascinating to me. And as for Millie…please share some some photos of that adorable little nugget soon!
Thank you Amyliz. I find what I’m going through and reading about fascinating too. The whole process, while unpleasant to say the least, has been enriching in many ways.
Will send Mike Millie pics for next Sunday.
Thank you AJ. I always share. You never know if someone who needs help is listening.
Gorgeous puss cats – are they dark tortie?
Got notification from Lulu that my calendar is on its way! YAY!
Nefertiti is a black/auburn/brown tortie and Seymour is all black with dark brown underfur and a mystical white spot on his belly which is, apparently, one of the entrances to Narnia.
He looks like he could contain an entrance to Narnia.
Just got home from my Stitch & Bitch, which today, was renamed (temporarily), Share & Swear. Because someone commented that there sure were a lot of sailors in here! But there was also a lot of much needed laughter and good food. I’m knitting my nephew a stuffed shark for Christmas and it is so cute! The fall colors came in yesterday ago and this year they are spectacular. The tree in front of my house looks like fire.
Hoping everyone is having a good weekend!
Edit: PS: Nefertiti and Seymour are gorgeous and know where it’s at. 🙂
I drive through a wooded area on my way to work and it is blazing!
We have had gorgeous fall foliage here this year, simply brilliant colors!
Gorgeous kitties! Squiddy, I think you will have to buy a new knitting basket, although they may confiscate that one, too!
I just finished making a big batch of broccoli-lemon risotto, which I will have for dinner soon, with lots of leftovers to take to work for lunch next week!
Chilly, rainy evening here; good night for Netflix!
Lovely kitties!!! Duckie and Faye, hang in there!!!!
I’m having slight anxiety about going back to work Monday, after being off for two months with a broken shoulder.
In the mean time, there have been two hurricanes, one with a power outage, the clothes dryer and fridge stopped working, mostly.
Thanks for letting me vent!!! And thanks for the safe, friendly place!!!
Hi Carlotta. Once you show up and walk in your anxiety will be cut in half. It’s the worrying and visualizing before you go that sucks. Let us know how it goes for you.
I started Nanowrimo on November 1. Not so easy to find time to write, but I am working on that (mainly making food that I can graze on during the week, and spending my internet time writing).
I spent most of last week with my bf. We took in an Al di Meola concert, visited a Roman settlement on the Danube, went to an exhibit on Byzantium, and spent two twilights walking through the Central Cemetery on All Saint’s Eve/Day.
Then we drove to my village on Friday, paying homage along the way to a local author who died 100 years ago this year. That entailed much hiking, but we bested our record yesterday by hiking 10 miles (and 2100 vertical feet!).
School starts up again tomorrow and the week is going to be jam packed. I swear I need a vacation from my vacation!
That sound so exciting an exotic, N. Fritz! I have to admit to ignorance – what is Nanowrimo?
Faye, good going in all your courageous pursuits – you are an inspiration. Carlotta! Wow, what a trial for someone with a broken shoulder! I had shoulder surgery two years ago so have some idea of how debilitating it can be, but you had all those additional factors to deal with. Vent away, darlin’ you deserve to!
We’re finally having a change of color – and things do look pretty spectacular – a pleasant surprise given that everything is so late – I figured we were going to skip the color part and just go to brown.
A friend of mine just had a spectacular write-up in the Washington Post – she and a group of neighbors have been writing postcards to pols for quite a while now – Tara, a little like your group as far as the camaraderie – but I think theirs should be called “Scritch and Bitch”.
MurrayC, NaNoWriMo is the National Novel Writing Month, aka November. Ideally participants write 1667 words every day and by the end of the month you should have a(n imperfect) novel length manuscript. I’ve had ideas clashing around in my head for 30+ years. They are seeking an outlet!
Thank you – never would’ve sussed that out! And good luck – I love words but I could never put enough of them together in an intelligible format to make a novel. I’ve written a couple of songs and a rap, but that’s all. Do keep us updated on how it’s going!
A couple of days ago I watched “The Happy Prince”, Rupert Everett’s excellent film about the last years of Oscar Wilde. Last night I had the most bizarre dream involving a film about…the last years of Oscar Wilde. Wilde was played by Desmond Barrit, an RSC stalwart well known for his comedy roles and formerly an outstanding pantomime dame. I was simultaneously watching and taking part in the film, and at one point I noticed that a modern car was visible in the background. When I pointed this out to the director I discovered that he was Jude Law, who played Lord Alfred Douglas in the film “Wilde”. If only real life was as interesting as this!
Was it the young Jude Law in your dream? The young Jude Law was amazingly attractive!
Yes! He was even wearing one of the suits he wore in “Wilde”. I don’t know if you’ve seen “The Happy Prince”, but I didn’t think Colin Morgan made a very convincing Bosie. Rupert Everett recently played Oscar Wilde on stage with Freddie Fox as Bosie, and after seeing Fox as Lord Goring in “An Ideal Husband” earlier this year I think it’s a shame he couldn’t have repeated the role on film.
No, I’m no longer up on my handsome English actors. Age I guess.
Totally creative dreaming. Very impressed.
Oh, Alice, you have a most interesting brain – all that theatre going is good for the imagination. no?
I think it must be. Earlier today I updated my list of all the Shakespeare productions I’ve seen since I was fifteen – 218!
Fascinating! Many of my dreams are formatted like movies – voice-overs, subtitles, retakes, etc.
