Links: Heads Are Tails

Dog with tail on head, special cat, deer saved from drink, and surprise dingo, in today’s links.

And finally: Automated Acrobatics

Ah, fall — there’s a crisp chill in the air, the leaves are falling from the trees, and the robot cheetahs are doing backflips on the lawn. (via Elizabeth G.)

I can’t decide if the name “Narwhal” is brilliant or mean…

    This face.

read this article three or four times. Could be the best writing/images to get people to adopt shelter dogs ever! πŸ™‚

    Narwhal, Narwhal.
    Causing a commontion,
    cause he is so awesome!

Okay. Those little mini-robo animals are awesome. I’m pretty sure at one point one of them was twerking. The real question is, “Can I jump on the back of one of them and ride it like a surf board?”

      I want one!!

Wonder if the robot cheetahs likes belly rubs?

Loving all the links but those robot cheetahs gave me the heebee jeebees. For some reason they reminded me of over-sized bugs. I can appreciate the technology that created them but just no, I’m not ready to welcome our robotic overlords just yet.

So many cuties today, the rescue story had me sniffling. Such a great person to rescue all three then find homes for two of them. I wish all shelters would become enlightened and become no-kill.

Eeek! They are rather bug like.

They looked like giant crabs to me. And I don’t get the point. Give me little Narwhal any day.

I think the point is those MIT students can show why they should make the big bucks when they get out of school.

They’re test and demonstration platforms for advances in robotics. The tech can then be used in prosthetic limbs, factory robots, or remote surgery rigs for areas short on doctors.

I am intrigued by everything they’re capable of doing, but they give me a SERIOUS case of the creeps! No, thank you! If they’re going to look like an animal,a they need a head and a tail. Maybe Narwhal can give his extra facetail to one of the metal cheetahs?

    • Dulcie November 14, 2019 / 10:29 am

I felt the creepy crawly sensation too AJ.
      But mostly amazed.
Oh wow I have to edit now because I see lots of you felt the bugginess too! 😁

    • 6rabbits November 14, 2019 / 1:17 pm

See, I think they all look like puppies, running and playing. Not like insects at all. I love how if they get knocked down they can flip themselves over and back up! So awesome! Watch it again and think β€œplayful puppies”!

      • AJ November 14, 2019 / 3:13 pm

Sorry 6Rabbits, tried and couldn’t think/picture puppies. For me, I think the problem is the movements are so mechanical and precise, no random little shuffles or jerks. Or could be I just watched too many SciFi movies.

        • 6rabbits November 14, 2019 / 3:18 pm

          Thanks for trying, AJ!!
          (I, too, am a sci-fi fan!πŸ˜‰)

      “whalecome” πŸ˜€

Narwhal, Maverick, and the rescue goggies are amazing. As are their rescuers.

  7. Tara November 14, 2019 / 9:40 am

Will Narwhal be able to wag his unicorn?!

    • Dulcie November 14, 2019 / 10:32 am

Oh wow good question. It would be so cute to have both tails wagging!

      • fkaWaldenPond November 14, 2019 / 3:03 pm

        Like a windshield wiper.

    • Debg November 14, 2019 / 3:22 pm

First thing I thought of too. It would be super cute.

      • Ricky & Bibi's Mom November 14, 2019 / 7:44 pm

Me, too! I suspect not, though. Probably a bit more like that bird wattle from a week or so ago.

  8. Lucy's Mom November 14, 2019 / 9:55 am

Giant kudos to all the rescuers of cats, dogs, deer… πŸ‘

Narwal doesn’t look normal to me – he looks exceptionally adorable!!!! As long as he’s not in pain (and that seems to be the consensus), he should have a wonderful life with hoomans who love him and all his parts. 😍😍😍😍

  9. Faye November 14, 2019 / 10:45 am

Extra tailio! No bones or muscles. I hope he can keep it!

The look on the faces of the three rescue doggos is priceless.

Cheeta Robots make me want one that can follow me on walks and errands to help if I fall and/or give me a hand getting into and out of the shower. Japan is already leading the way in creating robot helpers for Seniors.

I have such mixed feelings about that. Will it lead to more independence, or more isolation?
