Getting to NOPE You

Big dog falls for small kitten… eventually

We all know it can be hard to teach an old dog new tricks, but when Bailey gets introduced to his new roommate, an adorable kitten, he turns into a full-tilt drama queen, avoiding the newcomer as if it was radioactive.

Bailey’s human decides to offer them a small snack as an icebreaker. And sure enough, once the pair discover they have something in common…

… they’re playing together like old friends.

The kitten is amazingly self-possessed and the pup is a major Goofus.

      Goofus and Gallant?

Uh oh another cultural reference flying right over my head.

They were (oops! I’ve just checked: still are) Good Example and Bad Example comic-book style characters in a magazine called Highlights for Children. Trust me, you haven’t missed much.

Thank you. Apparently I was slandering the pup by calling him Goofus.

Ah heck no. Can yuz plez take back. I no like this lille thingie. Smells strange, not dog.

This probably how my almost 5 year old brother reacted when I was brought home from the hospital. There are pictures of him holding me and he definitely looks very uncomfortable.

A week after I arrived, my brother, in all seriousness, told my mother that he’d been a big brother for a WHOLE week and now they could send me back to whatever country that I came from.

Yes, adorable kitty and adorable dog who is a big doofus. I foresee animal behavioral study papers written about the encounters between these two for years to come.

I agree – they’re both very personable and interact in vivd ways.

That kitten is a Buddhist monk swift rebirth.

Exactly. That’s the chillest kitten ever.

This got funnier the more I watched. Dang dog would rather chase his own tail than deal with that cat! He does anything and everything to ignore that little munchkin. And that kitten reminds me of a mini Hana. Just so calm and looking at the dog like “You are such an idiot. And you’re my new big brother?? I’m so not impressed.” I can almost hear the eyeballs rolling. ROFLMAO. I’m ded, just ded.

Honestly, all I see is a very, very stressed out dog, doing all he can not to forget his training, and a frightened kitty in a floof suit. I think the pet parents are both Goofuses.

See all of Bailey’s panting and yawning? That is STRESS.
