Welcome to the Caturday chat room! We’re a little low on snacks today, so let’s run down to the corner market. First I need to get some cash…
Wave hello to the security cameras…
Ooh, and I’m low on detergent, too…
And now to grab some snacks!
Bodega Cats of Instagram suggested by Dana D.
I love Bodega Cats! It’s almost makes want to open an Instagram account just to follow them. I might have to see if they have a FB page. When I was on the trolley last night, a very sweet dog opposite me (on leash of course) came over to see hi and then proceeded to sit on my feet. So cute! Just wanted some pets and snuggles. Lots of running around today, first some breakfast, then haircut, maybe the Farmer’s Market, and some shopping. Stay warm everyone! I’d send you some SoCal sunshine and warmth but it’s in short supply right now as we’ve been having a major cold snap, getting down into the 30’s at night. Brrrr.
Bodega Cats are on FB. Stay warm in SoCal; our highs in SE MI are in the 30’s during the day. But today we heard a cardinal singing his “come hither” song to a female today. Spring is coming!
Kitty looks so comfy I wouldn’t want to disturb him so I’ll get some Lays Classic instead of Cheetos and maybe give him some gentle head scritches.
The weather has been rough this pass week here, we had 15 cm of snow of Monday, followed by freezing rain on Wednesday and then a mini blizzard on Friday that left another 15 cm of snow. So we got ice hiding under fresh snow. I saw a lady fall flat on her face on the sidewalk yesterday, her friend was trying to help her stand up but she kept sliding, it took her a while to get her feet back under her.
I’m definitely done with winter and ready for Spring to arrive!
Why are there never cats when go shopping? Vending machine kitty looks especially comfy in there. I think Snuggle kitty is hinting at something…
Just finishing up the one thing I had to do for work today. Got a scare because I got a network error and Oracle kicked me out, but I was able to log back in and it looks like the thing I had running completed successfully so I guess it was just on my end. Got chores and stuff to do today because I will be working tomorrow and it will be especially busy because it’s the first time I’m doing this…please keep my sanity in your thoughts. Also send kitties. Or puppies. Whatever you got.
Yesterday started out rainy and gray, then got sunnyish, today is sunny and high in the 30s, 40s tomorrow…
Bodega cats are hilarious. I didn’t know I could get toe beans from a vending machine–maybe I’ve just been going to the wrong places.
Sending you all friendly shopping critters, blue skies, warm weather, and sanity. AJ, nights in the 30s sound downright balmy! We get a week in the 50s(F) daytime, then we get a week like this past one, with daytime temps in the low teens and below 0 at night. Also say yest to sanity, everybody. And send some my way. Things at home and at work are, um, interesting.
Work: big time-sensitive computer update next week. It falls mostly on my shoulders, and we know what to do, but it’s nerve-wracking nonetheless. Also happening at a bad time because of . . . (dramatic music) . . .
Home: dryer broke last weekend. Hopefully new appliances will be delivered next Saturday, but who the hell knows? I sure don’t! Home Depot hasn’t been in touch yet and may not confirm delivery date until Friday night. Meanwhile, I’m also trying to get estimates for a big plumbing repair–which affects the laundry room–and many small projects, including the laundry room upgrade.
I’ll spend this weekend’s sunshine hours working in small bursts of energy, trying to get things put away or trashed so that workers can actually get into my house, deliver large appliances, and/or make these repairs. I need to work in small segments so I don’t overdo and hurt my elbow even more. This is what happens when you let things go for, say, a few years and all your hobbies take over every room in the house.
Once I get the last plumbing estimate and have confirmation for washer & dryer delivery, I can start scheduling the repairs. That may mean taking a week off, just so I can corral and calm kitties. They will not enjoy the jackhammer in the basement. It will be my best staycation ever!
Wow! Iโm impressed by your emotional stamina! Iโm overwhelmed just reading about it. Iโm resting on my laurels because I decided on a gift for a former long-term romantic partner with whom Iโve stayed on good terms. I keep a calendar with peopleโs birthdays noted and I found Iโd stuck a clipping of a book review in there last year, noting that the book would be perfect for him. I still think so. Yay!
You need a houseboy/assistant.
I”m tired just reading that too.
Morning, both to kitties and peeps.
Iโve been fighting a bout of depression all week, and have decided to not watch any news for the next few days, to see if that helps.
Today is a day of getting little things done. I absolutely refuse to do anything I donโt want to tomorrow or Monday, because those two days are dedicated by family and friends to be about ME! Monday is the big 50, and I have asked to have much made of it. Tomorrow my bff is having us over for supper and hot tubbing with a few other friends, and on Monday, I am having just my parents and my sisters over, and hubby, too. Then hubby is taking me out for supper, to Red Robinโs, where he will ask the staff to make a fuss over me.
I had a heart ultrasound on Thursday, and the tech guy and I were trading comments back and forth like crazy. He told me I had a lovely mitral valve, and I said, considering the location youโre holding the device, do I thank you or slap you. He chuckled heartily. At the end, I asked if he could tell if it was a male or a female. He said it was a male. I said good. He said why. I said that I gave my husband my heart and he gave me his, so it stands to reason that I have a male heart. He roared with laughter as he left me to get dressed, and all the people in the waiting room stared at me when I walked out.
Take care, everyone.
Duckie, you have the right idea about birthdays. People *should* make a fuss. It’s only right.
I’ve always admired your mitral valve too. (Just kidding–I don’t even know where that is.)
Sounds like a wonderful birthday celebration. I hope you enjoy every minute.
You are right to make a fuss, there are only so many birthdays in one’s life and everyone of them should be celebrated!
I loved your post Duckie. So much fun.
I too am shocked, saddened and downright depressed after this week. I don’t know how much more we are meant to take. ๐ฅ
Enjoy your 50th!! And don’t think about the state of the world for the whole day!! ๐๐๐ถ
Whoot Whoot! Sounds like you’ve planned an amazing birthday this year. Enjoy all the festivities. I’m on the other end of the spectrum and prefer to keep birthdays low key even when I was younger. I think it’s just because I hate being the center of attention. Love the story about the ultrasound tech. I figure you can either be embarrassed or realize these techs have seen who knows how many boobs, butts and other body parts so it’s nothing to them and making jokes lightens the atmosphere a little.
Happy Birthday, Duckie!๐๐๐๐ซ
After all the dire weather predictions I feel strangely guilty that York was virtually untouched by storms Dudley and Eunice. Why do they sound like a cosy mystery TV show? “Coming soon to BBC1 – ‘Dudley and Eunice’. He’s a chartered accountant with a tragic past, she’s a retired ballerina with six poodles, and together they solve crimes in picturesque Shepton Mallett'”…
I’m glad you’re safe. And you should pitch this concept to BBC.
Alice S I love you!๐ Retired ballerina with 6 poodles, indeed!๐คฃ๐๐คฃ!!!!!
Duckie, I hope your birthday celebration goes off like a fireworks display- have a wonderful time!
Do you ever watch the Yorkshire Vet on TV?
In today’s episode (which could have well been a rerun) an especially bad tempered, orange haired pig called Donald was treated!
Not saying a word. Not saying A WORD.

Iโd definitely watch it, although the Shepton Mallett reference went over my head.
It’s a real place in Somerset, England.
I was going to use Nether Wallop, also a real place, but I thought it might be too obscure.
Maybe we should resort to Magnus Parva, or perhaps Parva Magnus.
Iโve heard of that. Whenever Iโm in England I keep wondering where Loose Dhippings is.๐
I would definitely watch that show!
Alice!! ๐คฃ
So when’s the premiere for your show? I would so watch that over 99% of stuff that passes for tv these days. I end up watching a lot of the vet/animal shows on Disney or the Acorn app which has a ton of British/Aussie/European shows. I’m so excited that in 2 days Murdoch Mysteries returns for its 15th season.
I can’t believe that no one’s concerned about that ginger cat stealing people’s passcodes.
I guess some people won’t take precautions until their bank account’s have been emptied and there’s a $15k in cat toys and canned tuna on their credit cards.
Cat handcuffs. Steve Martin warned us back in the 70s.
New Olive & Mabel!!!
To steal a comment from the video:
“And somehow the world seems right for a couple of minutes, thank you Mr Cotter for sharing with the rest of us”
I’m not sure which part I liked best: Olive running OVER Mabel, or the behind-the-ears cam on Mabel. Behind-the-ears cam should become a thing.
Behind-the-ears shots should *definitely* become a thing!๐
