Weekend Open Thread

Welcome to the Caturday open thread! Today we will enjoy special VIP service in the chat room. I’ll let reader Georgiana Y. explain:

OK so maybe Minnie is a little bit spoiled but her appetite hasn’t been great in the last day or two so if she doesn’t wants to get off daddy’s legs to eat then that’s where I’ll feed her.

Cat sits on legs of reclining man eating from a bowl.
If I knew this was an option, I’d have asked sooner.

Cats always expect the rules to be broken/changed for their needs!
We had some beautiful days this last week, but its colder (45) and rainish for the next couple days.
Thinking about garden plans and brushing my massively fur-shedding bun! See below 👇🏼

      What a gorgeous bun!

      • 6rabbits May 20, 2023 / 9:18 am

Theo says Thank You! But he looks much better when not shedding, trust me!😆

    • Deb Gerish May 20, 2023 / 10:50 am

He’s lovely. I hope he likes being brushed.

I’ve never tried mixing in non-angora rabbit fur to my spinning fiber–wonder if it would work.

      • 6rabbits May 20, 2023 / 1:00 pm

I know, you’d think his fur is long enough, but apparently it’s not. Too bad, cos he sheds a LOT and it’s So Soft!

    Coming soon:

    Water bowl on daddy’s legs
    Bed on daddy’s legs

Shortcakery status update: I am delighted to report that the bathroom has been tiled, the rubbish in the back yard is being taken away on Monday, and…I’ve finally found a carpenter! It’s such a relief to get all this sorted before I leave for Stratford-upon-Avon on Wednesday.

    • Deb Gerish May 20, 2023 / 10:51 am

Huzzah! And when you get back from Stratford, you can simply enjoy the new look of your house. When I finished my kitchen back in 2016, I’d walk into it just to look around and smile.

    • Dubravkamcvmd May 20, 2023 / 11:33 am

      Great news! Congratulations!

      • Alice Shortcake May 20, 2023 / 1:27 pm

I’m just hoping I don’t get a horrible shock when the carpenter gives me a quote!

Plus, I forgot to mention that I went for a walk in the park this afternoon and nearly died from some weapons-grade cuteness – a family of moorhens darting about on the pond with four tiny chicks looking like amphibious soot sprites.

Glad to hear the end of renos are in sight. It’s always so satisfying to walk into a room, look around and say Yep, this exactly how it should be. And enjoy your trip!

We all deserve to be spoiled when we are not feeling well. Minnie is no exception the sweet girl!
But I hope she gets her appetite back soon.

    • 6rabbits May 20, 2023 / 1:08 pm

They crowd everything up to one side, or in a bedroom, do the exposed side and then do a switch over. It can be done.

      • Alice Shortcake May 20, 2023 / 1:19 pm

I can vouch for this, after having my bedrooms carpeted earlier this year. It’s amazing how quickly the fitters can get the job done.

Happy Caturday, everyone! And especially to lovely Minnie, who’s only getting her due after all. Such a pretty girl.

I’m sitting here with Lavender on my lap. She’s baffing herself pretty vigorously so there might be typos. Catching up on weekly budget, etc. before I head to the fabric store for drapery lining. If I don’t finish the living room valance today, I’ll do it next weekend since I’ll have a FOUR DAY WEEKEND!!! (Yes, I’m pretty excited.)

Hopefully my new loom arrives this week, so I also want to get warp chains ready for a new project. Will I make a new blanket? Or a batch of kitchen towels? Or that runner I’ve been planning for about 20 years? Hard to decide!

Whichever project I start next, I’ll wind the warp listening to Andy Serkis reading The Lord of the Rings. He’s reading solo but it seems like a full cast recording because he does voices so well. I could swear he pulled in Ian McKellen for a guest spot, but no, it’s just Andy Serkis. Completely magical!

    Hope you all are well.

    • 6rabbits May 20, 2023 / 1:04 pm

Wow! Don’t usually like to be read to but LOTR read by Andy Serkis might be a way to start. Already read it when the first movie was out, but that’s been a while.

The picture of Minnie on her Dad’s legs having her meal should be a poster, titled HOW CATS MUST BE TREATED.

  7. Duckie 🐥 May 20, 2023 / 12:04 pm

Minnie is just getting her dues.
    Crazy week here.
Hubby’s work benefits card arrived day after massive prescription purchase, and the insurer is now playing dumb as we try to get more info on coverage.
I tried ACV weight loss gummies, and started gaining weight. So I stopped, and left a truly scathing review on their website.
Looks like older sister is thinking about leaving her husband. We told her we’d pay for the moving costs if that’s what she wants to do.
Hubby’s dad is not getting out of bed anymore. We think this may be the beginning of the end.
Little Duckie has developed a fondness for hubby’s eyebrows. She’s been trying to preen them (they need it), and hubby absolutely freezes when she gets near them. It’s adorable watching a grown man being terrorized by a tiny, blue bird.
Deck garden coming on slowly, except for my grow bag potatoes. Time to roll up the rims and add more soil. I’m not sure how they’ll do, but I’m having fun trying.
Today is a catch-up day. Lots of little things to finish, as next week is going to be busy, too.
    Have a great weekend everyone.
PS Deb, make the runner. You’ll feel great once it’s done.

    • Duckie 🐥 May 20, 2023 / 1:03 pm

Georgiana, you’re safe until it’s litter box on dad’s lap.

    • Deb Gerish May 20, 2023 / 2:03 pm

You’re right. I have all the yarn; I just have to put together colors. It’s not rocket surgery!

  8. Murray C. May 20, 2023 / 12:24 pm

And Puss just takes it all in stride. Way to go, Minnie.

I’m paying dearly for a lovely weekend last week. It was our first trip anywhere in two years? A music camp, lots of old friends – and 16 out of 80 got Covid, including me. Fortunately I have very mild symptoms, because I still have to take care of my husband who is experiencing additional challenges from his Parkinson’s. We’re doing our best to adhere to some level of isolation. And just to add insult to injury today is our wedding anniversary. Ah, well, life goes on apace.

Exciting to read about all the good news, sad to hear about the bad and wish comfort to those experiencing it.

    • Duckie 🐥 May 20, 2023 / 1:01 pm

      Take care, and Happy Anniversary.

    • Deb Gerish May 20, 2023 / 2:02 pm

Murray, so sorry about the COVID. I hope the symptoms stay mild. And happy anniversary.

  9. Georgiana May 20, 2023 / 1:48 pm

Hello everyone, I’m out at a beer festival today thanks for the nice comment for Minnie, she won’t be very happy that I left her alone with the two youngsters today so I’ll have to give her extra treats tonight.

  10. AJ May 20, 2023 / 6:35 pm

Very late to an important date. To see beautiful Minnie being properly pampered. And Le Sigh, I think we’ve all been there with our 4 legged babies. I used to spoon feed one of my cats baby food mixed with yogurt when he was sick. Thor has been taking liquid meds 4X a day. So instead of trying to fight him and squirt it in his mouth, I mix it with peanut butter or baby food or cheeze wiz, etc. and put it on a plate for him to lick off. And god forbid if Val doesn’t also get a treat at the same time, lol.

Busy day. Was up and out of the house by about 5:30 am for a local news segment promoting the car club association in my city. So hubs was interviewed along with other members who showed up. Then ran a couple errands, and met up withe car club again for lunch. Started laundry and cleaned up the house. Whew, I’m done, time to relax.

Sorry you came down with Covid Murray. Hope it stays mild and goes away quickly. Duckie, I’m laughing over your poor hubby being terrorized by little Duckie. They may be tiny in size but huge in their own minds and attitude. Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone!
