Sorry the open thread is late, but traveling knocked me offline longer than expected. And nobody was more concerned than Mrs. Hattie Perkins, from reader JEC:
The thought of your impending vacation gives Mrs. Hattie Perkins a large sad.
She has a large sad re: your vacation, but to be clear, she has a large… everything…
Good afternoon, Mrs. Hattie Perkins! Don’t worry about being late. I slept in a bit, today, too.
Oh, thank goodness you’re okay, Mike. I thought something had happened to you, and there was no way we would ever know.
We love you, Mike.
Hope your vacation was awesome.
Mrs. Hattie Perkins is awesome.
THAT…is a large cat😳
Hope you had a relaxing vacation, Mike!
Very relieved to hear you’re OK Mike. We’ll want a full report!
Mrs. Hattie Perkins does her sad SO well I’d be very hesitant to ever disappoint her.
Just like Mrs. Hattie Perkins I think we all had a sad this morning when we didn’t have a Weekend Open Thread in our email. You had us all a bit worried there Mike, I’m glad everything is OK.
Hope your vaca was fabulous Mike. Happy to see the thread back, was a little concerned when it wasn’t available first thing. Miss Hattie is gorgeous even with a sad and don’t worry, I think we’re all a little “large” the older we get.
Sakes, Mike, you have every right to sleep in on vacation! Glad you’re okay, and have a great time!
Last night on Jeopardy the returning champ told a story about his dogs. The person who found them picked them up in a Mercedes Benz, so they were named Sadie and Benzy. They were terrified in the shelter and Sadie was protecting Benzy, until a foster drove nine hours to get them.

The Dodo story ends with them settling into their foster mom’s house with her other dogs, but they were eventually adopted by the guy who was on Jeopardy and his wife.
They changed their names to Butter and Biscuit, because they’re mother and daughter, and “you need butter to make biscuits.” He posted the Dodo story and a recent pic on reddit.
Oh! i’m so glad they found a forever home together
*sniff, sniff*
The Dodo story is really good. Thanks for sharing, Allein!
You’re back! (Jumps up and down, covers Mike with slobbery kisses)
I had a great time in Stratford – “Cymbeline” was the best production of the play I’ve seen and the weather was glorious. It’s been four years since my last visit, and I’d completely forgotten that several blocks of flats now stand on what used to be the site of the old cattle market opposite the train station. In 2019 they were in the early stages of construction, now they dominate the area. When the train pulled into the station I experienced a moment of utter confusion until it all came back to me!
Great! Now that your renovation (and the expense) is almost over, you can see lots of theater!
