Penny: “Stop posing, you’re demeaning yoursef!”
Photos like this are nudging me toward adopting a couple of feline friends, perhaps later this year when the holidays are out of the way and they’ll have a chance to get settled in. We shall see..
In other news, my new sofa arrived on Thursday. There were a couple of alarming moments when I was worried that it wouldn’t fit through the front door, but by removing the feet (and possibly breaking the laws of physics) the delivery men eventually triumphed and a ‘Right Said Fred’ situation was averted!
I have NEVER heard of this😳 Must be a British thing.
“Right Said Fred” gave me a very different mental picture…
The band “Right Said Fred” took their name from this song. I only found that out a couple years ago. And I hadn’t seen the original video before this.
If Alice’s delivery men looked like the “Too Sexy” band, she might not have minded watching them struggle with the sofa.
I’m glad the sofa made it through the door.
That’s priceless! I, too, am glad the sofa made it through. I love a happy ending. 🙂
I know!
A generational thing as the only Right Said Fred I know is way too sexy for moving a piano.
** sigh ** Bernard Cribbons was a national treasure. suspect all generations can agree to that.
I’ve never seen that thank you! I love old songs and stop motion cartoons. The modern equivalent of not being able to move a piece of furniture would be the pivot scene from Friends, it’s even funnier with the bloopers.
Google “Ross Geller” and click on the little couch at the top left.
LOL!
Each of the six main characters has something.
I need a direct link cos I can’t find what you mentioned? Please?
On the google search results page there’s a little cartoony couch to the left of the name Ross Geller. Click on it and it’ll do something fun.
Ross Geller
There’s something different for each of the characters (Monica Geller has a bucket of soapy water, Chandler Bing has an armchair, Joe Tribbiani has a slice of pizza, Phoebe Buffay has a guitar, and Rachel Green has The Haircut).
Okay, got it now!😁 I was looking on the left for some reason🤷🏼♀️
I knew David Schwimmer very slightly when we were at college together in the 80s. He looks so young there, and he was even younger when I knew him.
Your comment reminded me of a scene in Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams: a sofa was stuck on the staircase for several weeks. It’s been awhile since I read the book, so I don’t remember if they ever got it unstuck.
Glad you managed your new furniture! And say yes to kitties!
Nearly 20 years ago now, I had two students helping me get a small fold-out couch up a narrow stairway in my house. As luck would have it, the darn thing started unfolding when we were halfway up the stairs. We were stuck until I was able to crawl over the top of it and figure something out. I was imagining the headlines in the local paper if we’d failed–“ESU Professor barricades two undergrads in her house, won’t let them escape.”
Early last year, when I was in the throes of hauling some heavy items of old furniture outside for collection, I got my leg trapped under an armchair whilst wrestling it downstairs. I managed to free myself fairly quickly but I couldn’t help imagining a forthcoming headline: “Local Idiot Starves to Death on Own Staircase”
I’m so glad no one had to resort to any 127 Hour measures.
Happy Caturday? It snowed again. Didn’t get a ton but was supposed to have lunch with my friend, which we’ve been trying to do for four weekends in a row (I got sick, she had stuff going on, she had stuff going on and hurt her back) …and now she got a lot more snow than I did; usually it’s the other way around, probably because she’s close to water (we didn’t get a ton but I can hear the snow machines out there; I’ll have to clear off my car but I don’t need a shovel to get out). Still snowing lightly but it’s supposed to stop soon, according to the hourly weather forecast.
And I need to log into work later which wasn’t supposed to be until around 6 but now they want a meeting at 3. (I also had to log into work Wednesday night and ended up being on until 11:00. I had a personal day scheduled for Thursday and my boss told me to take Friday off, too, to make up for Wednesday night and today.) I also have a slight headache and am hoping it doesn’t get worse. Between the weather and staying up too late…I really need someone around here to enforce my bedtime better. (What do you mean I’m the only one here? Who allowed that?)
So we’re going to try again next weekend, because she doesn’t want to shovel. She said, “Someday the snow will melt and I can again leave my home.” I told her she can pretend she’s Elsa in the meantime. She replied with, “True. Do you want to build a snowman?” ⛄
This is dumb but it made me laugh…
I wouldn’t risk getting on the wrong side of that cat.
And now it’s snowing harder. So much for the hourly forecast…
That cat has very weird eyes!
We were supposed to get a snow from and Alberta Clipper yesterday but we ended up with a pitiful 3.4cm (1 inch) total.
My back has been giving me more trouble lately especially in the morning when I get up. Some morning I have to grab on to the chest of drawers beside the bed in order to be able to stand, it gets better after a few minutes of moving thank goodness.
I can’t wait for February to be over, I think it’s the worst month of the year!
I’d offer to soothe Miss Penny, but after a nightmare of animals changing into other animals, I think I’ll send soothing thoughts from afar.
I, too, can’t wait for this month to be over. Family, health and work stress. I picked the wrong year to give up chocolate bars for Lent. Finances are ok, though, so…
Try to have a good weekend, everyone. Stay safe and warm.
Hey, when finances are okay it’s time to relax!
Happy weekend from grey, cool, and dreary SoCal. Always love when Penny and Teller make an appearance, such beautiful cats. Finished cleaning so time to take the dogs to the park and then later have a Lego enthusiasts meeting. Tomorrow will be errands and maybe a stop at the thrift store.
Glad your sofa was able to get in the house Alice, not always easy especially with older houses and narrow doorways. In our various moves there’s always one or two pieces that confound the movers and have to come up with creative solutions to get them in.
More rain forecast for next week. Fingers crossed it won’t be as bad as the last 2 storms. But in good news, our amazing transit crews got the washed out trolley tracks fixed in less than a month. Now I don’t have to take the shuttle bus anymore, everything is back to running normally.
Ten years ago, people on the fourth floor were installing new kitchen stuff. The biggest thing was an L shaped kitchen counter that was huge. For some reason, the owners decided to take it up the interior stairs. I didn’t know they were doing this till I got home and tried to use the stairs. The way was blocked, and a corner of the counter had gone through the wall. I bluntly asked them why they hadn’t pulled it up the outside of the building, and they said they didn’t want to inconvenience anyone. Besides, they didn’t think the owners of the lower floors would want the counter going up past their decks. I pointed out that the first floor unit wouldn’t have been affected, I was the owner of the second floor unit, and I was looking after the third floor unit, as they would have discovered had they gone to ask and read the note on the door, and I would have granted permission and covered the railings. Then I left and went to our building council, and told them what was going on. As I locked my unit door behind me, I heard raised voices in the stairwell.
Greetings All! Thanks you for so many wonderful giggles this morning!
Penny and Teller, you two are just gorgeous. Love seeing you first thing on Saturday mornings.
I woke up to a beautiful, um, layer? dumping? of snow. It was absolutely still (no wind) and all of the bare tree branches had that two inch high layer. That is one of my favorite things about snow. But mid morning the wind kicked up and by now most of it has blown down.
Priorities this weekend are, finish knitting a sweater, edition my newest artists’ book, prep for class on Tuesday, and cook. Two weeks ago, I set aside a Sunday just to cook and it was wonderful. I got a smokey dal and a spinach rich stew called bkeila cooked and canned. So convenient when you are rushing in the morning. Today I’m making a Korma with tofu-mushroom balls and a soba-avocado-ginger dish. I’m also making a cardamom-y yogurt tomato salad for Stitch & Bitch on Monday. It will be a good food weekend.
Murray C – been thinking of you. Hope you are well. ❤️
Oh yummy–can I come eat at your house?
You’ll share photos of the sweater when it’s done? I always love to see what people are making. And it will make me feel like less of an attention hog, since I always insist on sharing my projects here.
We love your projects!💙
Come on in and pull up a chair – bring your knitting too ;).
Yes, I’d be happy to share the sweater! It’s actually a 1912 pattern that I’m trying to update for 2024 pattern lingo. So far it is going very well.
a smoke dal? I’m intrigued. especially since my dals tend to suck like Hoovers.
Hi Kar, here’s the recipe: https://ottolenghi.co.uk/recipes/stuffed-aubergine-in-curry-and-coconut-dal-flavour-pg-152
I have made the entire recipe with the aubergines – but it is an all day project. Sometimes I just want the dal with naan. Notes from me – I don’t add the two red chilis – I’m not a big fan of that flavor. Instead I add a 1/4 teaspoon chili powder and that’s more than enough kick for me. Also – If I’m making just the dal, I add a little less water. I like it thick.
thank you,
will need to try this!
Love to see these beautiful floofs, anytime. Penny is so funny.
Been thinking of Murray C too–sending more purrs and hugs. Sounds like everyone had an adventurous week!
We got snow last night, and the Rockies are even more beautiful with a white on top. They’re just breathtaking. Fortunately, the snow will *not* upset my evening plans! Friends are coming over for a Barbie movie night–we’ve been trying to do this since September, and I was afraid we’d have to reschedule again. But we’re soldiering on! I’ve got my “I am Kenough” tee all ready to go.
Better get back to cleaning the condo. The great room is the worst and it’s still to come.
No Barbenheimer? This might be my favorite mashup I’ve seen so far…
That is fantastic! I still haven’t seen Oppenheimer.
