Weekend Open Thread

Welcome to the open thread, Cutetropolitans! Sensitive viewers may wish to avert their eyes, because today’s cat from reader Susan H. has nothing to hide:

I tried to take a picture of Julius playing with his wand toy while upside down on my lap, resulting in this absolute gem of a photo! (Apologies for the lack of privacy tail, but as you may remember, he doesn’t have much of a tail, haha!)

Orange cat lays on its back playing with a toy.
I got nothing to hide it WITH!

    lol, happy Caturday!

I would absolutely give that Chihuahua a chance.

      Chihuahua is deadly cute!
The girl gifting her money to the shelter…is…just perfect. And the fact that it inspired more donations is wonderful!

Peeking between fingers, how scandalous! but still such a cutie.

Good news peeps, I have the contractor coming today to fix the A/C unit. Who knew you could be so thrilled by something?? Hopefully, I’ll be able to run it after this because it is hot here. Like bake a pan of cookies on the patio hot. Then Monday, I’ll talk to the other contractors and get on the schedule to repair the ceiling. I’m finally seeing the light at the end of tunnel folks.

Thor is doing better, they did the needle aspiration of the whatever is in his chest yesterday and now just have to wait for the lab to weigh in with what it might be. Fingers crossed for a good result.

No much going on this weekend, run a few errands this morning, then dealing with the contractor and probably some pool time. It’s literally too hot to do anything else. Maybe I’ll head to the indoor mall and walk around there just to get out of the house. Have a good weekend everyone!

Glad you’ll finally have your AC back, fingers crossed that everything turns out ok for Thor.

    • DEBG September 7, 2024 / 1:12 pm

Congrats on the forward motion for your house! And it’s good to hear Thor is feeling better. Keep us posted.

Yay for house news! I can’t imagine going thru that heat with sanity in tact! 🤞🏽for Thor💙

Fingers crossed for Thor and A/C. Always happy to see Orange Julius, even that much of him! And it’s always good to know the dogs were good again this week.

Julius has a promising future as a Playcat model!

A busy day yesterday, as I took advantage of what may be the last good weather to go to Whitby (I also can’t resist the £4 return bus fare). Oddly there was a thick mist on the moors, which was appropriately creepy and Gothic. I left earlier than usual because I had to be back in York for a ballet performance at my local theatre.

In other news, I’ve decided to refurbish the Shortcakery’s tiny garden by getting rid of some diseased/underperforming plants. Sadly one of them is a rose bush with an incredibly long and profuse flowering season, but it’s been ravaged by black spot and has grown far too big. I’m replacing it with an English Holly – self-pollinating, so no need for two of them – that will go nicely with the ivy growing behind it.

Finally, I had the Shortcakery valued and was pleased to hear that since I bought the house in 2016 it has increased in value by £67,000!

That’s terrific news about the house. Sorry about the roses–I adore roses and miss my old garden back in Kansas where they bloomed all summer.

      What great news!

  6. Georgiana September 7, 2024 / 11:21 am

I would brave the murder mittens to scritch that Orange Julius belly!

Nothing much going on here, I’m doing laundry at the moment, the big project for the weekend is cleaning out the fridge’s freezer upstairs and the big freezer in the basement both are full of stuff we don’t even remember buying and that as been in there way to long.

    Have a good weekend all.

    • SoccerSue September 7, 2024 / 12:06 pm

If he’s not already in attack mode, he’ll actually let you scritch it for quite a while.

  7. DEBG September 7, 2024 / 1:20 pm

That’s a ginger for you. What a great photo! Julius is a very handsome fella.

I’m enjoying my morning rituals, working up the energy to write postcards for political candidates. They’re due on Thursday, and I’ve procrastinated for too long. Time to get started!

Nothing else exciting this weekend. My new handwoven napkins were a fantastic success, and I’m ready to start a matching runner for my kitchen island.

    Hugs to you all.

I don’t know what’s happening in your life to make it bad but I hope you receive support/comfort/solutions to help your situation.
Looks like Julius could have his own onlyfans (cats) website.

    • Kar September 8, 2024 / 1:14 am

I’m sorry you’re having a hard time is struggling. Just know that there are people who care and support you.

If anyone wants to see my latest weaving project, it’s here:
    https://ravel.me/IamSherLOKed2/hln

A set of 4 napkins, in a weave structure called huck Lace. I love them very much.

    • allein 🐾 September 7, 2024 / 9:51 pm

      Beautiful!

    • 6rabbits September 7, 2024 / 10:14 pm

      Stunning!!

    • Dubravkamcvmd September 8, 2024 / 9:19 am

Beautiful! Looks like you need to be good at math to do that.

      • DEBG September 8, 2024 / 11:06 am

The designer did all the math work! I just followed his pattern.

Math in weaving is pretty simple: how wide and long do you want to weave, how many warp ends and weft ends will be in an inch, etc. There are lots of online calculators for figuring out the yardage.

    • fkaWaldenPond September 8, 2024 / 7:55 pm

      Love them! Gorgeous work.
