Been on vacation for the past week. Not ready to go back to work on Monday…
The dogs were good again this week. And sparkly. โจ
(For what it’s worth, according to the original post on Instagram, it was cosmetic glitter meant for the face, not the stuff you get from the craft store…expensive cosmetic glitter from Fenty Beauty. I looked it up and it’s $42 for .28 ounces. ๐ฒ)

I met sparkle baby yesterday in the full-length video and laughed my head off. What a beautiful adventure!
Rowdy is the goodest boy.

That dog who can frisbee and do moves like Ronaldo is amazing but Rowdy should get steak for the rest of his life.

Rowdy is indeed the gubbest of the gubbois.

Happy Saturday one and all. Glad to join the party but that was a tough climb, whew. Boring weekend planned; breakfast, library, some errands and then Lego club meeting today. Tomorrow just grocery shopping and maybe laundry, plus some baking. The only good news is my ceiling gets fixed this week! By this time next week I shouldn’t be looking at a hole in the ceiling anymore. Yeah!!! Hope everyone has a good weekend.
6rabbitsSeptember 21, 2024 / 10:40 am
Yay for new ceiling!!๐๐ผ

Very cute tabby cat.
Nothing new here just same old same old, we were planing a little excursion next week but the weather is not going to be nice so we’ll postpone for a week and see.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Good to hear Duckie. The โIโve been so sick I donโt want to eatโ diet is one Iโve done before but donโt recommend.
KarSeptember 21, 2024 / 9:35 pm
the “maybe I shouldn’t have eaten that raw beef salad’ diet is effective too but definitely don’t recommend it.

Love tabby cats. I’ve never seen eyes that color on a domestic cat.
I also love hearing good news about ceilings, COVID recovery, etc.
Quiet weekend here–my dinner plans got cancelled, so it’s just the usual errands and chores, playing with yarn, and enjoying kitties. Rick Riordan’s new Percy Jackson book comes out on Tuesday and I can’t wait. I’ve got GOTV postcards to write for a local candidate. And I’m designing a runner for my college friend–she’s wanted it for a long time, and we finally hammered out some details last weekend when she called for my birthday.
Hugs to you all.
6rabbitsSeptember 21, 2024 / 12:13 pm
I love Rick Riordanโs books! Have you seen the series on Disney? Waaaaaaay better than the stupid movies๐๐ผ
I donโt think I know another adult, maybe teachers?, who read his teen books. So Good!!
DEBGSeptember 21, 2024 / 1:39 pm
Love love love the Disney series and can’t wait for the next season. The young actor who played Grover was especially delightful–so very funny.

I think I’ll decline the climb as I’ve had my fill of steep inclines recently. Yesterday I returned from a four-night stay in Haworth, where – armed with a stiff brush and a pair of gardening gloves – I spent a rather weird afternoon searching for the graves of my four and five times great-grandparents. There are photos of the gravestones on Ancestry.com and I know approximately where they are, but after exposing four stones I was disappointed to find that they weren’t the ones I was looking for. Three of them were covered in a few years worth of accumulated leaf mould that lifted off in one piece like a blanket, but the fourth was completely buried in peaty soil and grass. I was exhausted and muddy when I returned to my usual B&B, which is directly opposite the church and Branwell Bronte’s favourite pub the Black Bull (my room was directly above the apothecary’s shop where he bought his laudenum).
The next day I visited Cliffe Castle Museum in nearby Keighley, where the exhibits include the loom and spinning wheel used by my distant relative Timothy Feather, the last handloom weaver in the area and a local celeb in his own lifetime. Matt and Tom will give you a guided tour:
Alice ShortcakeSeptember 21, 2024 / 12:28 pm
I forgot to mention that Timothy and other closer relatives lived in the village of Stanbury, which I also visited for the first time:
DEBGSeptember 21, 2024 / 1:40 pm
Woohoo! Thanks for sharing!
DEBGSeptember 21, 2024 / 1:56 pm
The Cliffe Castle video shows the loom and spinning wheel around 6:30. Up until a year or two ago, my company made a similar loom, with a hanging beater. You can see that the loom takes up lots of space–our loom had to be assembled inside the room where it would live.
Alice ShortcakeSeptember 21, 2024 / 3:30 pm
A Google search should turn up at least one photo of Timothy with his loom and spinning wheel in his cottage at Stanbury. Most of the space in his living room would have been taken up by the tools of his trade, wool, and the finished cloth.
Alice ShortcakeSeptember 21, 2024 / 4:09 pm
Something else I forgot to mention: I’ve never watched ‘Stranger Things’ so I had no idea why there was a real grandfather clock sprouting black tentacles in the fish and chip shop at Haworth. Just as I was about to enquire about this I noticed ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘The Upside Down’ decals elsewhere in the room. Well, I suppose it makes a change from the Brontes…
Also, for the first time in my many visits to Haworth Church the vicar was in the building. I was amused to hear that he was Irish, like Patrick Bronte and Charlotte’s husband Arthur Nicholls!

Sounds like a wonderful excursion. Sometimes I wish I lived in England to take day trips on the weekends to all these interesting places.

Spent today 1) correcting a thesis that has no chance of passing, and 2) cooking a big meal for guests (friends of bf… not my favorite people). Charcuterie board, roast chicken (without onions or garlic because one guest can’t eat them), couscous, green beans, carrots, apple cinnamon bundt cake.
Guests “forgot” and entertained their own guests instead. We.are.not.amused…

This is roasted with honey, sherry, cardamom and pepper. Those guys don’t know what they missed!
That sounds delightful!๐
Mutz is outside, patrolling the compound. We’re lucky to have him!
Thatโs rude! Especially since you had to prepare food particularly for one guest! Sympathy.๐ซค
I would not be amused either. But Iโll come help eat the leftovers. Sounds like a scrumptious meal.
I will right over and help take these off your hands.
Bibi and I disapprove mightily of your guests. They don’t deserve any of your yummy food.
Thesis sounds a tad depressing. Sorry.
