Happy Caturday! Let’s start the weekend with a story from reader Hoosierina, another satisfied customer of the cat distribution system:
Within a month of retiring, this showed up in my backyard. Her name is Mrs. Jones, fully Mrs. Shed Jones as she was living behind it. Named so because it’s just me and now we got a thing going on (“thing” involves much finger gnawing and turbo scampering — her, not me).
That is one adorable kitty! The rumbling purring!💙
Congratulations, Hoosierina! Mrs. Shed Jones is adorable!
Also, excellent naming reason. In your joint honor … (get ready to slow dance, everyone!) …
Right on! As was said back in the day.
Lawks…I can remember when that song was in the charts!
Happy Caturday and Saturdog!
You beat me to it!
Thank you, Blue, I feel calmer now.
Also, I was gonna share Sadie and her impressive high fiving skills but she (rightly) made the top ten so I don’t have to.
A breath of wonderful, happy, doggy air every week. I love WRD so much. Corn cob dog reminded me of our lab mix from my childhood–Smokey ate corn the same way!
Y’all might love this short:
I just learned on Thursday that We Rate Dogs also does We WALK Dogs videos. This week, Matt interviewed Tim Walz and his rescue dog Scout. It was just lovely.
Yes, he’s been doing the dog walks for a while (but not very often). Haven’t watched this one yet (I’m usually distracted by other stuff while watching videos so I save the dogs for when I have time to fully pay attention). That’s what got me following their You tube channel and I was so happy when he started posting the top ten dogs. (Before that they were only on Facebook and it’s still only the top five there.)
My favorites have been the one with Jennifer Garner (they walked indoors because it was raining), Noah Kahan (who I first heard of on a mental health podcast I listen to), and Gabriel Iglesias and his elderly Chihuahuas (also indoors, among Gabriel’s VW Bus collection).
I LOVE Tim Walz!
He’s a wonderful person. It really shows through in this interview.
Who else watched a second time to try to spot the secret service agents in the background?
Saw them right away!
AWWWWWWW! Mrs. Jones you are adorable!!! other Mrs. Jones, please send many many videos of your new friend. What a great way to start a Saturday morning.
I’m working our 200th Anniversary Block Party today! I have a little “portable” platen press. “Portable” because while I can lift it – it weighs a ton. I’ll be talking about letterpress printing and letting people print on it. They get a take-away card with my favorite Ben Franklin quote:
Hide not your talents, they for use were made
What is a sundial in the shade.
Have a great day everyone!
I want to see this press in action! It sounds fascinating.
Mrs. Jones is adorable. (Though looks a little young to be a “Mrs.”…?)
Not much going on; I need to get some chores done today.

Uh…what does it look like I’m doing?
Congrats, she’s just adorable! Love her coloring and markings. The only thing a distribution system sent me in our yard was a very fat skunk. Definitely not letting that in our house.
To continue the work saga of the mass mailing I was working on. At about 2:30 and only up to the files starting with F, the printer decided to start jamming and finally stopped working. Thankfully the repair tech was in the area and came by. More bad news, he needs to replace a part on Monday and it will take about 2 hours. The only way to print is one file at a time and breaks in between. 🤦♀️😳 Gotta laugh or else I’ll be crying. Oh well, it will get done but later than sooner.
Weekend looks like it might be productive. If it’s not too hot, time to clean and organize one of our backyard storage sheds. Plus finally get some supplies and gather all my recipes in one binder or file folder. Then just the usual errands and chores. Enjoy the block party Tara, sounds like a fun day. Happy Weekend everyone!
Oh my! She’s a tiny little thing isn’t she, I’m glad the cat distribution system found her a good home with you Hoosierina.
Went for a blood test yesterday, this time the doctor included everything not just for my diabetes so I had to be fasting for 8 h, I hate that, I’m the kind of person who eat as soon as I get up in the morning, my husband is the other way, he sometimes doesn’t eat until lunch.
Minnie is still doing OK, her appetite is not great and she has trouble with her back legs but she’s still able to go up and down the staircase to the basement where the litter box is so it’s not too bad yet.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.
Wands, people, wands! NEVER train them to play ‘hunt the handsies!’ Toys that roll, for throwing, for kicking and crinkling, and string under newspaper, flying feathers, the options are endless.
Save your hands, and those of the ones around you who can enjoy your kitties without getting shredded for their trouble.
(And yes, kitten is adorable)
Agree totally about about playing with the hands!
As do I, but let’s face it, it’s really hard to resist the hand play when they’re that tiny. I know I couldn’t, but we made the transition okay.
Little Shed is super cute!! 😻
TGIS.
What a dreadful week.
First of all, happy weekend, everyone. This tiny grey tiger is adorable. And just the right amount of round and feisty.
Hubby went to Niagara for a union conference. He’s been gone since Tuesday night, and will be back tonight. The silence here, and the loneliness, have been overwhelming. Even little Duckie has missed him. I kept myself busy, and got a great deal done, but still…
Start vitamin B12 shots on Monday. Ugh.
Grocery shopping today. Thanksgiving turkeys are in, and we got a bonus on our GST cheque, so I think I’m going to splurge a bit.
Have a fantastic weekend, everyone.
Mrs. Shed, I would commit adultery with you any time! What an adorable little morsel. I love everything about this story.
Hope everybody has stayed safe through this stormy week.
I’ve had a productive day already! Wrote another 40 postcards and will mail them on my way to my hair appointment. Colorado will mail out the ballots starting October 11, so it’s really GOTV season around here.
On Sunday, Spinning and Weaving Week begins, and that’s another big occasion in my world. I love all the busyness of autumn.
Hugs to you all, especially if you’ve had a bad week.
PS, this kitty’s name got “Mr. Jones” by Counting Crows stuck in my head. College flashbacks (that song came out when I was a freshman).
Unrelated…
I wanna go to this school.

Truly!
Mrs Shed Jones is gorgeous and no doubt will get gorgeouser as she grows up!
The tiny Shortcakery garden (window box at the front, containers and a small raised bed at the rear) has been keeping me busy over the past few days. A miniature fig tree with a twisty stem and an Irish Ivy have now been planted, as has a selection of winter-flowering pansies. Next week someone is coming to uproot two shrubs from the raised bed, but I haven’t decided what I want to replace them with.
In other news, a couple of nights ago I had one of the most vivid and absurd dreams I can remember. For some reason I was back in my home town of Bradford, boarding what looked like an ordinary double-decker bus. Something looked out of place and I realised that there were two grandfather clocks and a small pharmacy kiosk next to the driver’s seat. I know exactly what triggered this weird imagery – the fish and chip shop at Haworth, which I visited recently, features a “Stranger Things” grandfather clock with black tentacles growing on it, and I’ve been wondering where my nearest pharmacy is now that both local ones have closed. I think it’s safe to say that I won’t find one on a bus…
I wish my dreams were as tame and benign as yours. That said, yours is a corker!
