Welcome to the Caturday open thread! Today we have a visit from Skye, who is a model of persistence where food is concerned, explains reader Georgiana Y.:
In the evening we always eat on tray tables in the living room while watching the news. My husband spoils Skye and gives her bits of food from his plate depending on what we eat, that night he was eating shrimps covered in batter so not suitable for cats so she didn’t get any but not for the lack of trying.

Hi Skye & Georgiana! I grew up eating off TV trays, too. This brings back memories!
How sweet! Pablo would practically climb out on my outstretched arm for a french fry or a goldfish cracker.
I was watching the new nature series The America; the second episode was Mexico and featured blue-footed boobies. I learned that their blue feet come from carotenoids in the fish they eat.
Good dogs for a whole hour?!
I want to meet Fabio. 👋🏻
(Oops, that should say The Americas; Tom Hanks narrates.)
Today’s high is supposed to be 59F. Next couple days are supposed to be colder again (mid-30s), then in the 50s again for a few days mid-week.
I’m with Zuko. (The leg warmers!!!)
I love 2D doggies! Especially when they’re all wrapped up for winter.
I too want to meet Fabio and hug and pet him! My sister had Chihuahua/Miniature Pincher mix who would act the same way for guests. He was adorable💙
I await with baited breath the hour-long Good Dogs!👍🏼
Aren’t those shrimp rather…long?
Hello everyone, could you eat your entire meal with that little face looking at you? LOL!!
If you’re wondering about Storm, she isn’t usually interested in human food and even when she is one or two little pieces will do and then she’ll go away satisfied.
We had a crazy week weather wise, we had temperature over the freezing point Monday and Tuesday and even some rain but now we are back to snow we got another 15 cm (5 inches) yesterday. I’m really ready for Spring to arrive!
I hope everyone has a peaceful and warm weekend.
Lovely Skye, but such a look of disappointment. My two will sit across from me when I’m eating and their eyes seem to burrow into my very soul. But nope, 99% of the time I can resist. It’s very hard with Thor as he has what I call Eyore eyes, so hopeful but also so sad as he just knows he won’t get anything. Trust me, they get plenty of treats and appropriate human food, mostly fruits and veggies. Heck, they even eat bok choy!
Weather here is giving me whiplash, early this week was in the 80s and then dropped 16 degrees overnight. Now is cool, overcast and might rain. Make up your mind! Might go to a gem and rock show today. My old boss is in town and will be there so I might run into her. Need to do laundry as I’m running out of certain items. Then just errands and need to go to the hobby/craft store to get some art supplies. I have so many ideas for drawing/painting and I’m getting frustrated that there doesn’t seem to be enough time to work on time. Maybe this week will be slower.
I was confused by the pattern on the plate, which I briefly mistook for shrimp feelers that had somehow managed to survive the frying process!
The autoimmune hepatitis diagnosis was confirmed at a hospital appointment yesterday and I’ve started a two-week trial of the steroid substitute. Slightly OT, but during my visit I saw a glum-looking chap in a wheelchair accompanied by a prison officer and a security guard. York is near a maximum security prison and I’ve seen this sort of thing before, but when I got home I did a bit of research and learned for the first time that serial killer Dennis Nilsen (a sort of Scottish non-cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer) died at the hospital in 2018.
Last night I went to see an excellent studio production entitled “What Dreams May Come”, a programme of familiar and a few lesser-known musical settings of Shakespeare texts. It was staged as the last few hours of an elderly man (an endearing life-size puppet), with the singers playing medical staff, visitors, and people from his past.
I’d better stop at this point lest I give the impression that I’m obsessed with death and hospitals. Cheer up, spring is on the way!
The serial killer you named (I won’t repeat the name) killed someone I knew — Ken Ockenden. A wonderful guy I went to high school with — even in some of the same classes I took. Amazing artist. Phenomenal draftsman. Really nice guy. Hope that is what people remember him for. And not the terrible way his too brief, lovely life ended.
How sad. I too hope that people remember him for his life and not his death.
When I had tubes put in my ears when I was 15, there was a guy from the county jail, accompanied by two officers and handcuffed to his bed, on the other side of the short-stay unit. There was another girl a few years older than me getting her tonsils out who was originally a few beds away from him, and her mom asked the nurses if they could move, so they were put a few beds away from me. Which was nice for our moms because they had someone to chat with while we slept all day.
Good to hear that your meds have started–I hope they do the job. Sounds like you’re staying active, which is great!
So glad you’ve started medication that’s not a steroid, and you sound upbeat and chipper!
Today’s daily dog email from WeRateDogs included a notice that zip-up hoodies (in navy, gray, and maroon) are back in stock in their store:
“This popular item is perfect for spring, dramatic quick changes, and even as convenient storage for up to three of your furry friends.”
That line made me LOL!
I very much need teh Cute today. It’s been a dreadful week.
My family had a meeting on Thursday to discuss end of life care for my parents. Duckie is in season, again. The pope’s health situation is affecting me. I’m not able to make it to my nephew’s wedding. Hubby may have a job promotion that would involve moving much more north. The states. And I utterly destroyed a beautiful baby quilt I was making for my pending grand-niece, by losing my balance while trimming the edges with scissors.
I had a wonderful encounter with a large parrot this week. Our local pet store/adoption site had a parrot brought in for adoption, that was not doing well with people. She was quite young, and the hope was that, with proper care, she might be adoptable. There was a big sign on her cage, which was behind the counter, explaining her situation. I asked if I could go up to her, and the staff, who knows me, said yes, with appropriate cautions. I stepped nearer to the cage and started a litany of bird nonsense in a soft voice. The parrot, who was upside down and mantling, climbed off the top of the cage and came near me. I continued my rambling, and she floofed up her feathers and then relaxed. Then she came to the side of the cage, as close to me as she could get. She put her head down, and I dearly wanted to give her scritchies, but her beak inspired a great deal of respect in me. So I blew gently on her feathers, and she made crooning noises. Then I bent my head and rubbed it against hers through the bars, and she took some of my hair and began to preen it. The woman working there was stunned. When I stepped back, she told me that the bird hadn’t done that with anyone. She stepped nearer the cage, murmuring sweet nothings like I had, and the parrot turned into a very angry pine cone. I went closer, and the bird calmed down and bent her head again.
I would love to work in a pet store/adoption site again, but I am not reliable with my availability or physical stability. So I must be satisfied with drop ins.
There. Now I’ve calmed down. Thank you, Cutetropolis and Mike, for being a refuge in an insane world. Try and have a great weekend, everyone.
Duckie, the Bird Whisperer!
Many, many hugs and healing purrs, Duckie. That encounter with the parrot sounds lovely.
Oh no to the baby quilt! Is there any way it can be repaired? I would be SO upset! *hugs*
The parrot encounter is just lovely! You should go in and visit her on a regular basis, as I’m sure it would help her calm down a lot. Maybe they could give you a space where she (in her cage) can commune with you? I’m sure the parrot was thinking, “Finally!! Someone understands me!”
Maybe there is a way to rescue the baby quilt. The Japanese concept of wabi-sabi may be helpful. I can’t believe any baby wouldn’t love being kept warm in a quilt you made.
Sending hugs and best wishes. That is a lot of weight.
Beautiful Storm looks irresistible. I love her sweet face.
I’m still coughing, and my energy hasn’t totally rebounded, but I’m slowly recovering from whatever hit me. It’s been about a month of ick. Turns out, productive coughing for 15 minutes at a stretch is exhausting.
Despite the coughing, I made more videos last weekend and finally got them posted this morning! I should finish warping today and will try to film the process. If you’re interested, all the new videos will be at https://www.youtube.com/@debgerish. They’re not the greatest quality because the tripod doesn’t fit my phone. But they’re up!
I also got furniture rearranged in my great room, so now the craft books can go back into their bookcase. They’ve been stacked up near the windowsill–I’m stunned that the boys haven’t knocked them over, as they love to lounge in this area. It will be nice to have the great room all set up.
Hugs to you all.
Oh my Good Glory!😳 I am in total AWE! So…Much…Work! Even though I’m not a weaver I did understand about half of what you explained, and learned a lot. Mainly, that I will never be doing this!😆 I’m sure this must be helpful to beginning weavers! Your explanation of how many hours it took to fix certain errors about freaked me out! But your threads are extremely beautiful, and I can’t wait to see how it goes☺️
Thanks, 6Rabbits. If my new tripod arrives tomorrow, like it’s supposed to, I can finish warping and get weaving. I’ve got maybe 2 hours to go on the warping!
Five minutes of peace (and flowers and sticks) with Olive and Mabel.
Pure heaven. What a gorgeous place Andrew lives in!
“Right now it’s just a lot of sticks. Like a mother ship for Mabel.”😆
I literally LOLed at that. Can’t wait for part 2!
