Pocket Protector

A user on Reddit rescued a baby cottontail rabbit and kept it safe until it could live on its own — but not before sharing this adorable video of the baby bun snug in a shirt pocket. Here’s the story:

Baby rabbit tucked into a shirt pocket

Feifel and his siblings were living in a nest in our backyard. I didn’t notice them until one of our dogs got hold of a baby rabbit. I decided to take care of him until he was strong enough to be released.

The bond I had with this little bunny was unreal — he would lay on my chest and watch TV with me every night. I noticed that he would make these little clicking/grinding noises with his mouth and when I looked up what that meant, it’s apparently something rabbits do when they’re comfortable and content. I literally sobbed when I let him go. It was wild the emotions I felt for this little creature.

Be sure to read the Reddit comments for more pictures of Feifel! (via Andrew Y.)

Awww! It would be so hard to release him! I wonder if he still visits…

Beyond cute! And also so jelly she has rabbits in her yard. All I have are skunks and gophers. And thank you to the rescuer for keeping him safe then releasing him.

So precious! So glad she released him, but gosh that would be so hard.

Completely unrelated to today’s post, but I wanted to share.
Yesterday I told how I had acquired a stuffed animal capybara at the mall. When I took it out of its wrapper, I checked the tag for its name. It was Hope.
Later, I was looking for some legal papers. I was going through a box and dropped a pack of Christmas cards on my foot. One fell out. The front said HOPE.

I love that you taught the Victims Services people something new and fun.

It’s all fun and games until you have bunny farts emanating from your pocket.

Sorry, but it has to be asked. Do bunnies fart?

        • DEBG May 18, 2025 / 3:57 pm

All I heard was chewing. But that was okay!

Duckie, everybody farts. The question is when you do it and how loudly or how much it smells.

            Cue “Everybody Farts”:

When your day is night alone (hold on, don’t fart yet)
If you feel like letting go (hold on you might shart)
If you think you’ve had too much
            Of this life
or ate discount burritos from 7-11
            well hang on
            ‘Cause everybody farts

            Take comfort in your friends
            Everybody farts
            and sharts
            Sometime

With apologies to R.E.M. I’ll see my self out now.

Several people in my family are aggressively displeased with my placing this gem of an earworm in their inboxes. Kermit, you are temporarily disliked by my relatives. Rejoice.

                Thank you, Duckie 🙂

Well, that was just LETHAL. How am I supposed to get anything done today?

It’s baby bunny season in Colorado. I went on a walk maybe last weekend, just at the right time, and saw 55 bunnies in 2.3 miles. Many were babies and one couldn’t have been much bigger than Feifel.

Deb, I can’t stop laughing about the placement of your comment. Kermit sings “Everybody Farts”, and you say that was just lethal.

Shoot, I know I posted here yesterday…I think? Little baby bun was too sweet. Glad his keeper let him go when she was supposed to. It is hard to do!
