Prairie dogs are considered pests. I took one home

And finally: Ratketball
Andrew Y. found some clever rats who love to hit the hoops.
Rats are just SO smart! They can be trained to do just about anything. I had an adorable black/white rat named
Squish when I taught 4th grade. She was a classroom pet but spent vacations at home with me. She was so sweet and we trained her to do many tricks. Rats do NOT live long enough!
It is weird how cute baby Rhinos are! So playful!๐ฆ
Baby Rhino gets some good height in that last little kick!
Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s newsletter once said “To see a baby rhino is to fall in love.” I agree wholeheartedly.
Rasketball is really cute. Plus probably great enrichment for the rats.
I was looking at the comments on one of the rat videos, and someone asked the poster about how many rats they have: “Currently I have 12 amazing rats – in order of oldest to youngest we have Toast, Popcorn, Tofu, Raisin, Cracker, Crumb, Coffee, Jellybean, Cinnamon, Carrot, Pistachio, and Pumpkin Seed!”
Then they asked how they tell them apart:
———-
Anyways currently my rats variations are:
– Tofu: fully hairless (all pink w/black eyes)
– Toast: black hooded dumbo dwarf (size of an 8 week old standard rat, has ears on the side of her head and a black head with a white body and a black stripe down the back)
– Raisin: dumbo werewolf black Berkshire (werewolf is a fur type that causes the rat to molt symmetrical patterns that change daily – her body is genetically back and her belly white however due to the molting she usually looks like a toddler scribbled on her with a marker lol)
– Popcorn: golden siamese (golden body, dark brown points)
– Cracker: black Berkshire with rexoid fur (wavy fur, black body and head, white splotches on her belly, ears on the side of her head)
– Crumb: Russian blue rexoid (slate gray curly fur)
– Coffee: agouti rexoid (brown curly fur)
– Carrot: Havanah variegated double velveteen (tan fur on her head, white body, tan hood down the back – has ruby eyes and super soft short fur)
– Pistachio: Mink capped (mink is a brown gray color, capped means she has color on her head but her body is white)
– Cinnamon: Russian blue teddy rex with dumbo ears (darker slate gray with short thick fur and ears on the side of her head)
– Jellybean: dumbo dwarf black Berkshire rex (she’s about the size of a 6 week standard old due to being a dwarf, and she has a black head and body and a white belly with curly fur and ears on the side of her head)
– Pumpkin Seed: red eyed marten rex dumbo dwarf (light gray fur with bright pink eyes, fur is wavy and she has ears on the side of her head).
All and all they are very distinct looking so they are pretty easy to tell apart. The only time I’ve had issues was when I had a bunch of pink eyed white rats, and I got around that by initially using food dye on their tails to mark them distinctly until I learned their personalities and small bodily differences (this is a common method of marking identical rats and safe for them, plus they don’t groom their tails nearly as much as their bodies so it lasts way longer on the tail).
———-
Wow, lucky that all the rats are so distinctive looking otherwise I’d never be able to tell them all apart.
I like the trick of using food dye on their tails until they get to know them.
Prairie dogs are very cute can live up to 10 years but it’s a lot of work to take care of properly and they can de destructive so don’t think I would adopt one.
I could never have pet rats, I have nothing against them and they are very intelligent but I just couldn’t face loosing a pet every 2 to 4 years.
Iโm just gonna leave this hereโฆ

And this for Duckieโฆ

Well, then they’re gonna need some towels!
I want little owls to have a pool party in my back yard! Iโm sure the strata council would freak out, but I wouldnโt care. And Iโd gladly supply towels.
Speaking of towels, hubby played the hand-under-the -towel game yesterday, and Duckie actually pounced on the moving lump and attacked it!
I wish Duckie would do that to my mugs. She just screams at it until I give her tea in a spoon.
Wherever this pool party is, I’m in. And I have lots of towels for the moist owlettes!!
I had no idea that owls were social enough to have a pool party. Or maybe theyre a family unit.
Now someone explain why a bunch of owls are called a parliament? I certainly don’t look at parliament and think, those are a bunch of wise people.
So cute the two ratties playing bball, they’ve got some game! I think I’d rather watch this more than regular basketball. Love that they got treats after each basket. The steam coming out of my ears reading Oscar’s story would have powered my city for a week. How could anyone do that to such a sweet boy??!!! So happy that his foster/rehabber is keeping him, especially since he’s made such progress and trusts her rather than passing him to someone else that who knows what might happen. At least she’ll know he’s in good hands, hers! And he looks like a lil stuffed animal come to life. Rhino are just little puppies with tank bodies. That skip and hop at the end, ๐๐๐
Oscar has the sweetest smile. So glad he was rescued in time and found a great home.
Potato’s face when Miso washes him!
someone(s) just earned a spot in a very warm place.
So glad that little old man was found and is recovering.
