Weekend Open Thread

Welcome to Caturday! Cutetropolis reader Sowmya D. brings us two kitties who are decidedly decaffeinated.

Scoreboard says Cats 1 / Coffee 0. Nikolai Devinovich (twisted in his Jameson box) and Ekaterina Velikaya (curled up in an aesthetically pleasing pose) are winning Saturdays.

Two cats with fluffy orange fur lie on a beige carpet. One of the cats is half inside an empty box under a table with the word "Jameson" printed on it, while the other is curled up next to the table. There is an empty mug between them.
And the best way to win is not to play.

They look so comfy! I’d love to curl up with them.

I had cataract surgery on my right eye on Thursday and will have it on my left eye on the 16th. I was really surprised to discover that the world is brighter than I’ve been seeing it. Through the unfixed left eye the world seems grey/yellow and through the fixed right eye it’s sort of blue/white light.

Get yourself a good pair of sunglasses they are a must after cataract surgery!

Imagine how much brighter things will be when the other eye is done! Best wishes for a speedy recovery–and of course the kitties send their healing purrs.

I always love when Nikolai and Ekatrina make an appearance. Such beautiful babies. I’m in the same mode as them even after my morning cuppa tea – herbal peach apricot this morning. I always semi-joke thatI’m up at 5ish every morning because it takes me about 1 to 2 hours to get motivated. Slow and steady wins the day.

Good to hear one eye was successful, Dubravkamcvmd. Hope the other surgery goes just as well and your healing time is short.

Not much going on this weekend. There’s a few new exhibits at the museums so I think I’ll take myself to them tomorrow after grocery shopping. Today I think will be house cleaning and organizing time, maybe a stop at the library. Enjoy the weekend, and Happy Easter to those who celebrate.

What content kitties! Soothing to the heart.

Dubravamcvmd, I am glad your first surgery went so well! Enjoy your new view. I wish you the same terrific outcome in your second cataract removal.

Sowmya D., do your cats answer to Niko and Katya, or only to their full names? Or do they, as is often the way of felines, never deign to answer?

    AJ, enjoy your museums!

I’ve been on a mood roller-coaster lately; the good moods are enjoyable, the bad moods are discouraging. Or maybe I mean the discouraged moods are bad. I can almost track it with the weather! The sun does help when it shows up, and I’ve enjoyed spending time with my dad recently. He lives across the country from me, so time together is precious.

Mike, as always, thank you for everything.

Happy Pesach to those in the middle of it, and Happy Easter to those who are about celebrate it!

So glad to see my awesome duo on The Cute!! These guys only answer to what they feel like – usually their full names only come out if (when) they have been Bad.

But his nickname is Muchko (from Kolya), and hers is… Princess. Because she is.

I think I’ll copy Nikolai and Ekatrina today I really feel like doing nothing and just relaxing.

I have finally identified the birds that come and eat the kibble I leave outside for the stray cats, they are Starling (étourneau sansonnet) and they are a real nuisance!

It’s not that I hate birds, we have bird feeders in the yard but they come in gangs to eat the kibble, perch on the railing and 💩 all over the deck!

Officially I believe they are considered a pest because of their large population and resilience.

But they are incredible imitators and very, very smart.

Take a look at this one, for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vC6kf8442yI

Happy Easter and/or Passover, if you celebrate. I have to work tomorrow but I’m going to my parents’ for dinner. Had yesterday off and slept in a bit. Slept in today, too, and now I have a headache. My cleaning efforts this weekend are focused on dishes and throwing out any random trash and papers I find.

The dogs were good and the Chihuahuas plentiful.

Plus, the top dogs of March.

Happy Caturday! Sowmya, your furbabies are stunningly beautiful. I’m glad they’re resting up, because it’s exhausting to be that gorgeous or so I’ve heard.

And Happy Easter/Pesach to everyone celebrating!

My weekend will be filled with trip preparations. I’m headed to a fiber festival in Arizona, which means flying, coordinating with the friend who’s also going, and getting back very late next Sunday night/early Monday. Have to finish sewing my purse and if I can complete my new handwoven vest, that would be great. Travel is a lot of work! I’m trying to manage my stress level.

The payoff: two fun spinning and weaving classes, fiber shopping, spending time with my dear friend, and seeing a part of the country that is new to me. We might even get to meet Jelly Bean, the new baby pygmy hippo. Also I won’t think about work for 5 days.

    Hugs to you all.

Sowmya – your fur babies have gorgeous fluff. Thank you for sharing them with us.

I have a three day weekend, so I’m wasting time. I did manage to get up and get to the vet for more meds for Jacques and the grocery store for fresh veggies. Jacques has claimed my lap for a few hours of knitting, but I need to go outside and do some gardening.

To those who celebrate either holiday, I hope they are wonderful.
