Maru passed away today. Fitting he went to Heaven on Caturday… but they’ll never be the same.
Thank you for everything, Mugumogu and Maru <3 You made the world better.

Oh, no! I didn’t see this before I posted my comments. Poor Maru. May he rest in peace. I hope the girls will be okay. I can’t help picturing Hana searching for him.

Oh my gosh. This is the saddest Cutetropolis day ever.
What an unbelievably awful day for Cutetropolitans. I’ve noticed over the past few months that Maru was beginning to slow down and look his age but I wasn’t ready for this.
I’ve thought a few times recently that he probably wouldn’t be with us too much longer. Mugumogu takes such good care of her kitties, but google says his breed typically live 12-16 years and he was 18. Still, not prepared.
His wiki is of course updated already. “In September 2025, Maru was diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma and died the following day.” 😔
So sad today. But so so grateful to all the kind humans that were willing to share a little bit of their animal friends with the world. This site (and its predecessor Cute Overload) has gotten me through some of the worst days of my life – and it is because of the joy that loving animals brings.
In Maru’s honour I will put out a fresh (too small) box for Nikolai to squeeze into, and give him and Ekaterina an extra cuddle.
