Yes that is an absolutely boopable nose, don’t mind if I do … boop!

We had an unusually busy week here, we actually went out everyday LOL!

On Monday we went to get the flu vaccine at our local pharmacy, they we supposed to also have the Covid vaccine but they hadn’t received it.

Tuesday we went out for lunch and to Costco put gas in the car.

Wednesday we went to the Provincial vaccination centre to get the Covid vaccine they didn’t have at the pharmacy.

Thursday we went out for breakfast and did the weekly shop and went to my SIL to play cards in the evening.

Friday we went to a family breakfast with about 15 cousins and we went for diner to one of our favourite restaurant in the evening.

When I was younger that would have been a slow week but now I’m old and I’m really looking forward to staying home and doing absolutely nothing this weekend LOL!

Hope everyone has a nice and restful weekend 😉

    Good Morning! Happy Nosevember!

For the first time since moving into my house (17 years ago) I passed out Halloween candy. I am the only proper house on a very busy street where no one else gives out candy. I also have a wall that extends out to the sidewalk that hides my front porch, so people miss that I’m a house. No one ever rang the door bell either. I realized traveling through a different neighborhood, that people just sit outside on their front porches, so I gave that a go. It was so much fun! I have been missing out. I had to alert the kids coming from the wall side with a “trick or treat” call, and they came. I made a derpy but adorable jack-o-lantern, picked up an orange mini Trader Joe’s bag and filled it with Snickers and sweet and sour twists. I didn’t get many kids but the one’s I got were so adorable. The first two were young girls, maybe 2 and 4, not exactly sure what they were, but they had face paint and were so sweet. Dad reminded them to say “thank you” which they happily shouted at me. I completely forgot that was part of Halloween. I was pleasantly surprised when the young tweens – without parents – all said “thank you” on their own. ❤️❤️❤️ I had a wide variety of kids including a gaggle (at least 9) teenage girls, all dressed as different kinds of zombies including a cat zombie, who were being loud and shouty across the street and sprinted over when they realized, “Candy!” I’m in such a good mood this morning. Just all those thank yous gave me a little hope for humanity. What a great motivator to be more generous in everything. Butch came and sat with me for a little while (reminding me he needed to be fed). Before I went in I got some nice pictures of him for next year’s Caturday Halloween.

Is there a place you could put up a “trick-or-treat here” sign or something? My complex sends a printable sign (or you can pick one up at the clubhouse); one side says “Trick-or-Treat Here” with a smiling jack-o’-lantern , and the other says “Sorry, No Treats” with a frowning jack-o’-lantern (so you can put that up if you run out or just don’t participate, so people don’t knock on your door all day). My neighbor made her own sign and hung it off the railing so it could be seen better from the ground. We’re upstairs; the two units that face front (and are therefore more visible) don’t do Halloween (though they didn’t put signs up this year), and our doors face sideways so they’re harder to see from the ground, so I think most kids just don’t bother to come up the stairs. I don’t bother with a sign; I don’t expect a lot of kids but I always get something just in case if I’m going to be home. I was in the office so I didn’t get home until around six, and it was starting to get dark not long after that so I assume most kids were pretty much done by then.

I saw lots of cute ideas online.

      • Tara November 1, 2025 / 3:16 pm

That’s a great idea. I had visions of cutting out paper ghosts and hanging them from the front bushes to alert people to look, but I ran out of time/ambition. My steps are only about 3 feet from the side walk anyway. It was such a joy to call out “trick or treat” and watch happy faces turn around to see “where?!” I didn’t mind.
Glad you found a home for at least two or your Oreos. My condolences about the rest. 😉 I have one snickers and a few sour twists. I think I’ll manage.

I miss handing out candy. Like you, I enjoyed the “thank you” responses, and the creative costumes, and the feeling of general good will.

Can’t believe it’s Nosevember already. On day three of a migraine and I have to work tomorrow (and a little today). Cross your fingers I don’t have any issues that someone else needs to fix. Gonna try to do some laundry and dishes, at least. Broke down and turned on the heat this week. My gas bill gets auto-charged to my credit card…let’s see if I get a “charge exceeds the limit you set” notification when that goes through at the end of the month (I get an email whenever I charge anything over $100). Last month was almost $60 without the heat running. Lots of news about utility costs in NJ lately (or maybe it’s just all the political ads…I can’t wait until Tuesday’s election is over).

I only had two trick-or-treaters last night (middle-school-age girls). They came up about two minutes after I got home. I gave out Halloween Oreos and they said I had the best snacks so far. Then they went across to my neighbor and I heard something about candy bars. So I went back to the door as they were heading for the stairs and asked if hers were better. One girl said “Yes.” The other said, “But yours are good, too.” 😄 If I’d known there’d be no more kids I would have given them a couple more packs of cookies. Now I have 18 left (two cookies per pack). Oh, well, I will manage somehow…😜

My parents only had the two little girls who live on the next street that my mom talks to sometimes. They were telling her how much candy they got so she said she should get a treat, too, and took a fun-size candy bar from each of them. 😂 She was giving out dollar bills (rolled and tied with orange and black yarn). My brother had 70 kids before he ran out of candy (Reese’s and KitKats).

The squirrels were good this week.

    • AJ November 1, 2025 / 11:19 am

The dog stories were so great this week. Loved the singing husky, finally got a recording of my girl chihuahua singing the song of her people this week. She does it every morning, on and off for like an hour. Guess she either has a lot to say or she likes hearing her own voice, lol.

P.S. Hope your migraine gets better, I know from experience that they’re no fun to deal with.

      • allein 🐾 November 1, 2025 / 11:26 am

Thanks; it’s a little better than when I got up. I guess the caffeine and advil are starting to kick in.

    • DEBG November 1, 2025 / 2:48 pm

Thank goodness for skwerls! And dogs. I was wearing my WRD sweatshirt today and told two more people about this worthy endeavor.

Happy Saturday and Happy Nosevember. Would definitely boop that nose. Saw a lady with her kitty on the electric trolley on the way home from work yesterday. What surprised me was kitty wasn’t in a carrier or stroller, she was just hanging out on the seat next to her owner. Very well behaved too. Made no attempt to jump down, wander or bolt out the door. No trick or treaters here last night, we’re on a road with no sidewalks and few streetlamps. Did get some kids around 8ish ringing the doorbell, saying they lost their cell phone and could they use ours. Weird but thankfully we have a Ring camera/doorbell so had hubby deal with it through the app so didn’t open the door. We’ve had instances of kids doing something called Ding Dong Ditch here and one family got their door kicked in. So unless we’re expecting someone, we generallydon’t answer the door.

Going to be a fun day today, first breakfast and taking doggies to the park. Later on I have my painting class and maybe some thrift store shopping. Tomorrow after errands, probably hit the museums and see what new exhibits are up. Tuesday, I have a bee removal guy coming out to, fingers crossed, take and relocate all the bees from under one of my yard sheds. I had a colony earlier this year under the other shed, and had someone else remove them. There were a few straggler bees and they said that they’ll just move on in a few days. Yeah, they did, to the other shed and set up shop there. Since it was summer, I didn’t want to disturb them during their busy time so now that it’s cooler, they’re out of here. I worked with this bee guy previously, and he’s the best. Does live removal of the bees and relocates them to an apiary on local farmer’s land. So, no bees were harmed during the process.

    Enjoy the weekend everyone!

    • Dubravkamcvmd November 2, 2025 / 9:05 pm

Lovely of you to be so kind to the bees.

    Good morning!
We are in the midst of an atmospheric river here, and it’s been pouring rain for two days. Sure kept down the fire crackers last night.
I have a special request to make. If anyone on the US west coast is coming to BC for the holidays, could you please let me know? Hobby Lobby has some absolutely adorable duck flannel, and I’m hoping to convince someone to bring it up here. I’ll pay, of course.
Today will be a day of cleaning up a huge creative mess hubby and I made. So I’m off to unwreak havoc, and then relax.
Have a fantastic weekend, everyone. Happy Nosevember.

    • SoccerSue November 1, 2025 / 12:42 pm

If the Whitecaps have another playoff game at BC Place, I might be coming up there, so I’ll keep you in mind and let you know if I am. IIRC you’re somewhere in the southeast part of the Lower Mainland? Abbotsford area?

      • Duckie 🐥 November 1, 2025 / 1:06 pm

        Correct.

        • SoccerSue November 2, 2025 / 4:19 pm

Hi Duckie! The Whitecaps are playing on Nov 22, so I’ll be up there that day if you’d like me to get the duck flannel for you and bring it to you. If that works, just email me at soccersue525@msn.com and let me know exactly what you want and how much. 🙂

    Boop!

  7. Alice Shortcake November 1, 2025 / 1:39 pm

    BOOP! And again, BOOOOOP!

I was thinking just a couple of days ago that I haven’t had a really bad cold for ages. Well, I woke up this morning with a streaming nose and sore throat, so I’m making up for lost time now!

The pre-Bonfire Night firework season began a couple of days ago, no doubt much to the dismay of local pets. If the weather is decent I might go to the nearest organised firework display next Friday, and by “nearest” I mean “on a school sports field next to a public footpath, so cheapskates can watch it for free”.

I saw the new “Frankenstein” film a couple of days ago. Like all G del Toro’s films it looks fabulous, but visually it was a bit too much like “Crimson Peak”. Amazingly, it featured a pack of CGI wolves so poorly rendered I don’t know how they made it into the final cut. As for Elizabeth (William’s fiancee, not Victor’s), if you watch the film on Netflix put the CC on or you won’t be able to understand much of her dialogue. But on the whole it was worth seeing. The Creature’s animation scene is fully equal to the one in the 1930s version and a vast improvement on Kenneth Branagh’s – remember those absurd electric eels?!

Wishing you all a meaningful All Saints Day. We’ve been through the Central Cemetery at dusk, visiting the graves of the famous and family. Now listening to “Dead and Gone” Totenlieder- Songs of Death. Please don’t think me morbid… death is a part of life (especially when you live across the street from the second largest cemetery in Europe!)

If that’s too heavy for you, please check out my Photostream with Inktober 2025 drawings. It’s been a long time since I applied pen to paper,… but I take it as a step in the right direction.

Is this the cemetery that’s “half the size of Zurich but twice as much fun?”

      • N. Fritz November 1, 2025 / 1:53 pm

        It is!

    • Ricky & Bibi's Mom November 1, 2025 / 2:16 pm

Fun drawings! I recognized “Old Bill” the janitor from “Peabody’s Improbable History” in Rocky and Bullwinkle.

I didn’t know he had a name! but that was the first image that popped into my mind when I read the prompt!

    • DEBG November 1, 2025 / 2:36 pm

Thank you for sharing your artwork! It’s amazing. I love the toilet paper cat, the prancing goats, and the bird with the fancy hairdo.

        thanks for the feedback, DebG!

Love the half a bat, and prancing goats! You are very good, and should be sketching all the time!

    • Dubravkamcvmd November 2, 2025 / 9:09 pm

      Great drawings!

Happy Caturday and Nosevember, everyone! I boop the snoot!

Just got back from errands, which today included going to the local yarn shop. It’s so wonderful to have one in town! I’m weaving a scarf for my SIL in a color I don’t wear, so it was a relief that she liked one of my handspun skeins. That yarn became the warp. But none of my stash yarns were working for the weft, and I didn’t have enough handspun. Hopefully one of the new purchases will do the trick.

It’s good to be done with October, even though I’ll miss the tocks. I had obligations or activities every single weekend, and like Georgiana, I find it a relief to get to stay home. Will be glad when the local elections are done too.

    Hugs to you all.

I looked outside a little while ago to see a mobile groomer van, and the groomer was just taking a fluffy clean dog (I’m guessing some kind of small poodley thing) out and returning it to its owner across the street. 😊

One last thing to close out the weekend…

    • 6Rabbits November 2, 2025 / 8:46 pm

I have heard/seen some of this guys stuff before. It is 💙amazing💙 how All Kinds of animals respond to the music. I think we should start having a section where animals can listen to music. Just a spot where they can hear and hang out if needed. Zoos, national and state parks etc. Maybe it has to be a person singing, I have no idea?
