This happens every year: He can’t find his receipts, his Schedule C is full of errors, and I have to gently remind him that he’s not allowed to claim me as a dependent.

Calling the cat a “dependent”? What an insult.
So true!
Psst, here’s a tip. File on-line! Makes filing taxes less of a chore. Did that in Feb/March??, took about an hour and had refunds in a few weeks. And get it right, the cat is not a dependent, he’s “Head of Household”.
My dad gets Turbo Tax and lets me piggyback on his account, so I go over usually at some point in February or March (sometimes even January) to do my taxes. And I usually get dinner, too! I got my federal refund pretty quickly (though I didn’t know it had been deposited until I went to pay some bills and saw it pending in my recent history…they notify you it’s been accepted but apparently not when they deposit the check…) but no state refund yet (though I haven’t looked at my checking account in a couple weeks so I guess it could be there and I haven’t noticed yet…).
I did mine last night. I realized a bit after it’s the first time I’ve ever done my taxes sober. We’ll see if they’re correct.
That made me laugh, Blue Footed Booby. I’m curious: were they correct when you did your taxes “not sober”? And if you messed up this year, will you go back to your previous routine?
Mixed bag! They were wrongest the first year after I quit drinking (read: switched to weed for health reasons). I realized it was the due date immediately after eating an edible, so it was a race to get them done before my reasoning deteriorated. From what I can tell, I correctly calculated them then neglected to actually pay until Uncle Sam sent an extremely not-impressed letter. So that already puts this year as not the worst.
I am a responsible adult who makes great decisions.
New York just proposed a tax credit for dog and cat owners:

Saw it in my We Rate Dogs email. I hope the rest of the country gets behind this. I spend almost this much on cat food, so even a little bit would be nice to recoup.
I saw this too and wholeheartedly approve. They’re our children, after all.
Taxes in Québec are more complicated than in the rest of Canada because the province handles it’s own income taxes instead of letting the Canadian Revenue Service do it so we have to do 2 income tax reports and it gets complicated, my poor husband used to spend the whole day doing our taxes.
This year for the first time we used a professional firm to do our taxes and let me tell you it’s worth the $87.00 for the peace of minds and we’re getting refunds!
Why is nobody talking about those gorgeous slightly crossed blue eyes???!!!?!?!?! Beautiful kitty!
that face is the definition of long suffering and limited patience.
which, I guess all cats have mastered when it comes to us.
