Bring Out Your Cute!

Ah, Vienna. City of musical giants … and graveyard hamsters? To help us dig deep into this topic, here’s reader N. Fritz:

The Central Cemetery is not “central,” but it is the second largest cemetery in Europe. It is also home to one of the largest populations of European hamsters. So if you’re not interested in paying homage to our musicians (Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, the Strauss dynasty, Falco) and you’re into the cute, the Central Cemetery is the place to be!

I’m always a little surprised that there are wild hamsters. I guess on some level I knew that pet hamsters weren’t created in a mad scientist’s lab, but “wild hamsters” still feels like an oxymoron.
