Too cute!! Didn’t realize until seeing the baby heffalumps up close in this video, how fuzzy they are. And how do they eat a coconut?? Seriously, do they just chomp on it, eat just the leaves, break it up then eat it? No wonder they’re confused. So, if I can’t eat it, I might as well play with it!
Fuzzy baby elephant heads are the best!
I, too, do not know how an elephant eats a coconut. My guess is that the coconuts aren’t intended for the babies, and that an adult picks it up, puts it between the back molars (which babies don’t have yet) and cronches it by dint of main force. But I’m not sure. Elephants are huge, but their MOUTHS aren’t especially large (nothing like a hippo, for instance), so I’m not sure a full-grown elephant could fit a coconut between its back molars. But they must be able to eat them somehow. The keepers wouldn’t go to the trouble to provide the coconuts merely to frustrate the elephants.
Anyone else try to stroke the fuzz through the screen?
