Birds of Different Feathers

Another “a mom’s a mom” moment from reader Ricky & Bibi’s Mom, who found this video of a crane raising a gosling along with her own baby! You can see more of this unconventional family on YouTube.

A gosling chick pokes its head out from under the feathers of a sandhill crane.

Fascinating, as Spock would say. 😉
There is a part 11 (below) that explains some of the history (below the video) and has an 11 minute video. The gosling helps pull out some crane feathers in the first half.

Gosh, I’d forgotten I sent that! I love the surprise unveiling when Mama Crane stands up. And the gosling’s fluff.

It’s funny that there’s a Canada Goose right next to the nest.
It’s cute and all but that’s going to ne one confused goose when it reaches adulthood. Is it going to try to mate with a crane?

The little hops! And the baby crane bobbing in the water as he swims!
