Maru Gets Legal

Close up photograph of the face of Maru the cat, wearing a hat with "18th" embroidered onto it.

Maru turns 18, making him old enough to drive, vote, and buy the beer boxes he loves to squeeze into. To celebrate, he looks back on his past year of weirdness.

Q: When is Maru not a cat? A: When he’s a dandelion.

Looking dandy indeed, Andrew Y.

Weekend Open Thread

Welcome to the Caturday open thread. Fans of Disney parks love to look for “hidden Mickey” shapes, but reader Tara O. shares one you’ll only find here in our chat room:

Please consider these pics of Butch’s foot pads, where clearly he is hiding Mickey Mouse.

Black and white cat, viewed from overhead, sitting on a bedspread. We can see the underside of cat's foot, with an interesting marking.
What’s the marking on the foot that’s shaped so perfectly?

Maru’s Need to Knead

While Hana and Kitten Miri enjoy the simple pleasures, Maru is driven by the urge to knead his pillow until it’s flat as a dishrag.

Weekend Open Thread

Welcome to Caturday! Today’s guest, courtesy of reader Susan H., is a big boy taking a whole seat to himself:

We’ve had Julius the orange bobtail for just over a year now, and he’s grown into a big (16 pounds!) loveable goofball. He does occasionally get his turn with the brain cell — he’s very good about coming home when we call him, and he’ll sit on command! Every morning, he tries to keep me from leaving for work by posing like this when I say goodbye to him.

An orange cat lies on its side upon a green cushion.
How can you leave such cuteness?
