How about furry spiders? No? How about computer-animated furry spiders? OK, how about computer-animated furry spiders with big puppy-dog eyes and the voice of a six-year-old boy? Well, here’s one anyway.

Anne D. and Andrew Y. both thought this was cute.
It’s cute with the sound on—that kid brings the Qte. Otherwise it’s still too spidery for me.
I’m in your camp, Ricky’s Mom. The voice made me think of Marcel the Shell, which I love. This was ALMOST cute, but the movements were too realistic. *shudder*
I love Marcel the Shell (in shoes!).
Spider’s cute only because he’s virtual.
I saw this at the bottom of one of the links from the links post. I purposely did not click on it. Thanks for nuthin’.
Spider – cute. Six-year-old boy – Bah! Humbug!
I’m with you!
count me among your own!
Team bah-humbug here!
I guess I’m one of the weird ones — I think Lucas the spider is adorable!
Me, too – I love spiders. Part of that is we don’t have too many dangerous ones in these parts – and I’m wary – but I will save them or ignore them. I’ve seen what they’ve accomplished for me – like a web full of ants or other unwanted critters. My husband’s ancestor wrote an enormous tome that is beautifully illustrated called “Blackwall’s Spiders” showing all the tiny little parts – totally fascinating. Spiders are GOOD!
So precious! I was disappointed that he’s CG and not real because a spider that cute can build a web on my porch any time! (No offense to my usual porch spiders intended, of course. They have classical arachnid beauty.)
Adorable!!! I actually am very fond of spiders and at my mother’s house we had a number of the little fuzzy black spiders that Lucas appears to be modeled on, except they have the most gorgeous metallic green eyes. Where I live the mosquitoes and deer flies can be awful, so anything that cuts down on their population is more than welcome on my property–spiders, lizards, frogs–if it will eat the skeeters, welcome home!!
He’s a hunting/jumping spider type,a kind of spider I look forward to having share my home during the summer. The unpleasant sort of spiders, the kind with serious venom, unfortunately sometimes set up shop in my home. But having this type patrolling assures they end up as dinner, instead of a threat.
They are also fun to watch go about their little spider business, living their spidery lives.
The spider is a cutie, but the narration is annoying.
I vote cute. The voice reminds me of Marcel the Shell with Shoes. And the narrator of the Catdance 2014 video (Ricky & Romy). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrj5zLJfLbo
Thanks for the link, Tigger. I hadn’t seen that before. I was also reminded of Marcel the Shell.
For all who think these voices are cute/funny, check out this and other Kid Snippets on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdxEAt91D7k
I remember posting this a while back right here on Cutetropolis – love it!!
(I meant the one about the kitten) the arithmetic one made me want to scream.
Ohhhhh, I remember that Catdance one. It really goes straight to my heart. I’m not surprised it was an official selection.
NO! Not even going to look at it.
It’s cute as long as it stays very far away from me.
I adore spiders! Count me in.
Did I tell you guys about my spider rescue? (You’ll want to skip this if they give you the creepies)

so I was at the Laundromat, and there was a big black spider trying to hide under the washer, but I was concerned she’d get stepped on. So as I picked her up to take her outside, I saw her back was covered with symmetrical bumps (me: ‘hmm, spiders get pimples?’). I put her safely out in one of the planters and, looking more closely, I saw the ‘bumps’ were her babies! Dozens of perfect little mini-me’s, hanging on tight to Mom. This maternal feeling just swept over me (Ok, I was a little creeped out too)!
The next year it happened again, only this time the little family was in the frozen-food aisle of the supermarket. I convinced them that the shrubs in front of the store were a better home.
*runs away screaming*
*…and crying…*
Just watched Blade Runner again, this story is straight out of the Voight-Kampff Test they give to the replicants 🙂
I guess Smartypants is human!
Hilariously, a newspaper gave several politicians running for office here in California that test, and several of them failed: https://io9.gizmodo.com/when-a-newspaper-gave-blade-runners-replicant-test-to-m-1687558534
Smartypants, I love this story.
Recently, I watched all 3 seasons of Dark Matter (because sci fi geek) and there was a truly hilarious moment where my fave character dissed a book because, as he put it, “The spider’s a know-it-all and the pig’s a wimp.” Then at the end, we see him reading and sobbing over the book.
What a nice story, Smartypants!
I feel lucky that Iam not afraid of spiders as there are always quite a few of them in the monster residence. However I wouldn’t mind if they found a new location for the annual web spinning competition…
I think Lucas is adorable.
Smartypants, what a wonderful and fascinating story. You and I are kindred spirits. I am forever escorting the many-legged little ones out of harm’s way.
Yes, I’ve rescued a mom with babies in my house. So cool.
I can appreciate the attempt at cuteness but spiders are a big no for me as well. It did move a little too realistically for me to try and suspend disbelief.
Yes, it was the speed especially that I found challenging. I get bad reactions to spider bites, so that’s another reason I have an issue with spiders. I can just about handle the ones I occasionally encounter in the “wild” (NYC apartments), but fuzzy ones? NO.
Nope. nope. nope. I watched first without sound, then with sound just to make sure – and still. nope.
But thanks for helping me realize that. 🙂
I knew there had to be a few comments that would make me laugh, as did the very considerate intro (is that what you would call a “trigger warning”?). 😉
What annoys me is that I can’t understand Lucas. Oh the sufferings of an ESL alien… “Hi, my name is Lucas, I have […] eyeballs. [… … …] Bye.” Would someone please write it out for me – seeing as how this information might be of tremendous relevance for my future?
(P.S. Spiders get evicted from my house, but what really puts me in panic mode are flying insects, esp. yellow jackets/wasps.)
Here’s what I think he’s saying: “Hi, my name’s Lucas. I have too many eyeballs. I look around with all of the eyeballs. Wait, wait wait, where’s my spider web? Oh there is it! Ok bye.”
“I have too many eyeballs. I look around with all of the eyeballs. Wait…wait…wait…where’s my spiderweb? Oh, there it is. Okay, bye”
Thanks much, Patty and Birdcage!
There’s cute…. the kind of thing that is so odd that it becomes Qute… and then there is REALLY cute. Spiders belong to neither category. They are strictly in the “Yuccck! GET RID OF IT! HERE, TAKE MY SHOE!!” category. ? .
For me, it really depends on the type of spider and its location relative to my house. Small furry hunting spiders that live on the outside of the windowsills and eat the mosquitoes that try to get in, but stay outside themselves? Great. Any spider of any size inside the house? Not afraid if it’s small, but nope, get the shoe! Black widow or brown recluse spiders in my garage? KILL THEM WITH FIRE!
I have zero problem with virtual or filmed spiders, however. They’re not something that can crawl on me, so no problem.
Like I said, I’m weird….
It’s water bugs that I can’t deal with.
Cats.
Problem solved.
Not mine. She watched a spider for a good ten minutes last week – I didn’t know what she was looking at until it moved – but left me to squish it. Spiders outside? Fine. Spiders inside? NOPE NOPE NOPE
Lucas is kind of cute but still sets off my NOPE NOPE NOPE alarm.
My cats are great at detecting and pointing out where the spider (or bug) is but not so much at killing it, for that I have a husband LOL!!
Reminds me of the peacock spider:
LOVE this!
