It snowed again last night! Make room for me kitties, I need a hug!
And — poof– I’m gone for the day!

Places to go, things to do, happy weekend to all.

Awwww – so cute and what sweet kitties. Met a very unusually colored greyhound being walked in my neighborhood, she’s brindle color but nothing I’ve ever seen before. Orangey base coat with some black markings, almost looked like a tiger. Such a sweet girl.

My neighbors had their monthly get together last night so got to meet some of them plus the sister of the guy we rent the house from. Very nice people, some of them have been here 40 years plus. And the neighborhood has a community association, it’s not an HOA but according to their bylaws: “The purpose of the CVEA is to preserve the integrity of the neighborhood by forming a common bond of residents and property owners.” How nice is that??? They have a summer picnic and a fall progressive dinner at people’s houses plus have block captains (shades of communist Russia, lol) to keep an eye on things and send around a newsletter. Man did I luck out moving into this place.

Not too much planned this weekend, still trying to unpack and organize the house. Then add in some errands to run, cleaning, and laundry. And oh yeah, our last home game for hockey is tonight. Where did the season go???? Just hope our team makes it in the play offs, they were doing really well and then bam, they’ve hit a major slump and lost their last three games. Oh well, win or lose, they’re still my boys. Go Gulls!!!!

And last night was kinda funny on the phone texting scene. My brother announced to everyone the new vehicle he bought and we were having a 6 way discussion about who gets to drive it first (after my bro of course). It was very interesting trying to keep track of who was texting what and my phone kept blowing up with all these text messages. At least now, I have the phone number for one of my nieces that I didn’t have before.

    Happy weekend everyone!

I’ve completed two new volumes in my series of extracts from the theatrical paper “The Era”, so “Please Throw Two Carrots At Your Mother” and “A Complete Somersault Into The Orchestra” should be available on Amazon next month.

From the latter title: in October 1879 a very mild criticism of an actress brought forth an irate letter from her adoring and much older husband:

“Sir, – Your issue of The Era of the 5th inst. contains a False and a Most Malicious Libel on my Wife! Miss Sarah Novara.
You are made the medium of publishing to the world that “the Ladyʼs appearance was not much in her favour,” than which a more utter Falsehood was never printed!
There is not a shadow of a shade of excuse for such a shameless allegation!
On the contrary, I (who was sitting in the stalls) heard the people in the Pit Draw in their Breaths, and say is she not Beautiful!_ And another said She is just like an Angel!
To do, as you have done, is to injure Miss Novaraʼs Prospects in her Profession, Most seriously, and entitles her to claim very Heavy Damages from you!
I call upon you, therefore, to give up to me the name of this Most Cowardly and Most Malicious Slanderer, or on Wednesday I shall come to London and instruct my Solicitors, Ambrose Haynes and Sons, Grecian Chambers, Temple, to commence an action against you for Libel!
The Jury have only to look into the Face of Miss Novara in order to see – stamped in every line thereof – Beauty of a Very High order, and Talent such had not been seen on the stage since the Days of Sarah Siddons!
Ask Mr Wills, Dramatic Author, of 6, “The Avenue,” 76, Fulham-road, What he thinks of her Appearance? and he will tell you that he told us in his studio he could get her on at the Royalty Theatre, “but that she was TOO BEAUTIFUL for the Manageress (Miss Emily Fowler) TO PERMIT OF IT.”
As we walk in London – and as we do so here – Men AND WOMEN turn round and stare at Miss Novara! and a Painter here has asked permission to paint her Portrait Gratuitously, as she appeared in the last act of ‘Julia!’
She has eyes just like a Gazelle; and a Natural Colour just like that of a PEACH! – and I (who carried off the Prize for “Anatomy” in the University of Edinburgh) tell you that I have never seen so splendidly proportioned a Figure!
Ask Mr John Ryder what he thinks? and ask him, also, whether he knows any one who will, less tamely, submit to an act of Injustice than will the Grand-nephew of the late Joseph Hume, M.P., who does himself the honour of signing himself, Yours faithfully, ROBERT MILLAR, M.D., Surgeon-Major on the Retired List of the Bombay Army, 18, Cliff-terrace, Margate, 6th October, 1879.
P.S. – I forward three newspapers – not one of which dares to say what you do!!!
P.S. – Since my wifeʼs appearance “The Green eyed Monster” has been Rampant here!!!”

To which I can only add – !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

    • Ricky's Mom April 7, 2018 / 10:05 am

Imagine Dr. Millar writing comments on teh interwebz!

    • AJ April 7, 2018 / 10:07 am

Wow!!!!!!!! What a letter defending his wife. I wonder who was right or was the truth somewhere in the middle, lol. I think I have to wander over to Amazon and check out your books. The extracts you’ve teased us with make me eager to read the whole thing. Hope they sell very well.

      • Alice Shortcake April 7, 2018 / 12:18 pm

Thanks, AJ! Unfortunately it’s hellishly difficult to sell self-published books – I regard mine as a hobby that costs me a small amount of money, not as a source of income.

    • dubravkamcvmd April 7, 2018 / 12:40 pm

He sounds like he might be a little, um, overbearing, as a husband. Sheesh!

  4. N. Fritz April 7, 2018 / 10:14 am

It’s been a very busy and productive spring break! Doctors appointments, spring cleaning, bureaucracy, reading. Plus I spent one day in Salzburg and three days in Krakow visiting a friend I hadn’t seen since we first met in 1996! But now I’m back, nose to the grindstone, trying to finish grading tests to hand back on Monday. I do NOT want the weekend to end!!

  5. debg April 7, 2018 / 10:39 am

Happy Caturday, everybody! Hope you’re all engaged in wonderful things this weekend.

I’m about to dive into my freelance work. Once I actually get started, I’ll love it, but for now I’m still in self-pity mode because I already worked 40 hours this week. It’ll be fine.

Then haircut this afternoon, errands and chores, and tomorrow lots of cooking. I’m making a cheesecake for work and hope that it turns out well, because I’ve talked it up and raised people’s expectations.

Those kitcats above have the right idea. We’ve had temps in the 50s and 60s, then suddenly yesterday we got snowy rain. Brrrrrrr.

  6. allein ? April 7, 2018 / 10:56 am

Happy Caturday! Tonight my friend is having game night. He put the invite on facebook on Thursday, which I hadn’t responded to, and not surprisingly he popped up yesterday on my gmail instant messenger thing to ask if I was coming. He said he was trying to get a head count for chairs, and “I also want to make sure to poke you to be social. ☺” So I said I’d go for a little bit. Other than that I have dishes to do and maybe some laundry.

  7. Duckie ? April 7, 2018 / 11:49 am

    Happy Caturday to all!
These two furry creatures have the right idea for today. I can barely see across the yard, it’s raining so hard. Gigi. You have the right idea: I think I’ll crawl in with these two as well. Looks like an adequate amount of floof to share.
I tried yesterday to imitate Tiny Tim, but it didn’t happen. I wish I had; I could have used the nap after this week.
It poured rain all flipping week, which resulted in my having to do WAY too much of hubby’s laundry. Landscaping in mud is not a tidy job. However, the increase in pay is going to be so helpful. I can already see a very tiny light in the tunnel. I don’t think it’s quite the end of the tunnel, but I’m hoping it might be the halfway light.
There has been so much chocolate on sale this week. I’m stocked up on Smarties for at least two months. And there’s always room for more in my hiding place.
Friday, we actually had sun. It made me feel like a kid again, and i wanted to go out and do something immature and irresponsible. So I walked barefoot through a mud puddle, and left foot prints on the sidewalk. Then I had to dry my feet on the grass, and walk into our building with bare feet. It was great.
Found out today that the extra money from our levy-from-hell will be returned by the end of May! This will be such a relief for us!
Alice, I am seriously tempted to purchase your books. Will they come in solid book format, or just download?

Peeps, I would like to ask a general question. Has anyone here ever used that garcinia cambogia stuff? What did you think? Does it do anything?

    Have a happy upcoming week.

    • Alice Shortcake April 7, 2018 / 12:14 pm

The new books, like the first two, will be available in print and ebook versions.

    • Ricky's Mom April 7, 2018 / 12:21 pm

Free medical advice is worth what you pay for it, Duckie. Questions about garcinia cambogia are really best addressed to your doctor. None of us here, even if we were doctors, could possibly know enough about you and your health to advise you safely.

That said, and for whatever you decide it’s worth, *my* doctor told *me* that if couldn’t stop myself from looking up health-related stuff up on the internet, I should stick to the Mayo Clinic and the US National Institutes of Health. I took a fast look some papers at the NIH, and having done so, I wouldn’t touch garcinia cambogia with a bargepole. There’s a lot of evidence of dangerous toxicity.

I stress that I’m not a doctor myself. But my advice (yes, for free, from a concerned fellow citizen of Cutetropolis) is that you should not consider *any* over the counter dietary supplement at all, not even vitamins, without first discussing it with your doctor. And I certainly wish you the best of luck in finding a healthy weight-loss plan. I have issues with my weight as well, and sympathize.

  8. Heather Noelle April 7, 2018 / 11:55 am

I just paid off my credit card, which means I can start planning to get a snake! Any snake owners on here? I am thinking about a corn snake.

In other news, I’m working too much and not writing enough, and still need space to work out and hang with the family.

    • dubravkamcvmd April 7, 2018 / 12:45 pm

I bet there aren’t many places (besides Cutetropolis) where a person could read the sentence “I just paid off my credit card, which means I can start planning to get a snake!”

      • Alice Shortcake April 7, 2018 / 5:34 pm

Yes, that’s a Cutetropolis classic! I’d be amazed if anything resembling that sentence has ever been written before…

        • Heather Noelle April 7, 2018 / 5:59 pm

I can’t wait to send in cute danger noodle pics!

          • Faye April 7, 2018 / 7:49 pm

            Yes. Pics please.

            • dubravkamcvmd April 7, 2018 / 9:07 pm

              Ditto

              • Heather Noelle April 8, 2018 / 2:59 pm

Mike needs more adorable danger noodles!

    • N. Fritz April 7, 2018 / 1:07 pm

Congratulations on paying off that credit card! That is definitely worth a happy dance!

    • Faye April 7, 2018 / 1:54 pm

      Yay. Snakes. And good credit.

    • AJ April 7, 2018 / 5:57 pm

Good for you Heather on both counts – paying off the card AND buying a snake. We used to have a snake (burmese python) as well as 2 bearded dragons. Best thing you can do if you haven’t had snakes/reptiles before, is to find a good exotic animal vet before buying the snake. We found most regular vets have little to no clue on what’s normal behavior/vitals for reptiles. Another thing is make sure the snake is kept warm and out of drafts. When we got our burmese, he had been kept in a chilly room, was underweight, and wasn’t eating properly. Once we got him in his preferred temps, his eating got more regular and he started putting on weight. Good luck with your new friend and post some pics!

      • Heather Noelle April 7, 2018 / 6:01 pm

Ooo, really good advice, AJ! I live in San Jose and I think we have some good exotic vet options. Corn snakes are the #1 beginner snakes so I hope it won’t be a disaster if I make a mistake.

Hi All. Taking a break from drawing. I had not drawn for a few months. Very happy to begin again.

Planning on learning how to make my own frozen to be cooked pizzas using premade thin dough circles. I’m allergic to tomatoes now so I need to come up with new yummy combinations. Spinach, ricotta, mushrooms, peppers, panchetta, artichoke hearts, pimento, not all together. Any suggestions?

Looking forward to warm weather. I plan to buy a dog stroller with part of my tax refund. Millie has been inside the whole winter. We both need to get out. The stroller will protect her from big dogs and steady me.

Losing weight very very slowly. About 1 pound a month for two years. I want to see if I can do better with an easy walking regimen. I’ve curbed my appetite for the first time in my life. I think that not rushing to work and being forced to eat an early breakfast and on a lunch hour made all the difference. And minimal carbs.

Plugging away at all other aspects. Looking forward to second book group meeting in two weeks. Doctors appointments and a good haircut.

I have new pics of Millie who is approaching her second birthday in August. I will send them to Mike.

    • birdlady26 April 7, 2018 / 5:43 pm

Pineapple, walnut, with gorgonzola cheese and olive oil.
      Artichoke and ricotta.
      Spinach and goat cheese.

      Yes, I’m a cheese addict.

      • Faye April 7, 2018 / 7:51 pm

        Oooo. Thank you.

    • Heather Noelle April 7, 2018 / 6:32 pm

Good work on the weight loss, and cheers to walking!

I like things like roasted cauliflower or fresh basil on pizza.

      • Faye April 7, 2018 / 7:52 pm

        Yum. I love roasted cauliflower.

    • AJ April 8, 2018 / 1:54 am

My favorite non-tomato pizza is to put homemade pesto sauce on the crust, load it up with lots of veggies and maybe some diced ham or sausage and pineapple. Then add just a little parmesan cheese (poor me, I have problems with cow dairy) and goat or sheep or non-dairy cheese and bake. Yummiest pizza ever!!!

      • N. Fritz April 8, 2018 / 2:25 am

Roasted vegetables: cut/dice veggies (zucchini, green onion, peppers, eggplant, mushroom, maybe some blanched or thinly sliced carrots – whatever you’ve got on hand) into pieces. Put them on a shallow baking pan and add some salt, pepper and Italian herbs. Drizzle with a tablespoon or so of olive oil. Roast veggies in a 425 (200+ Celsius) oven 5 minutes. Then stir and give them another 5 minutes. Let them cool a bit while you prepare your pizza dough. Then spread the roasted veggies on dough and sprinkle with a generous amount of parmesan cheese. Bake pizza at 425 10-15 minutes until dough is crisp. One of my all time favorites (although I add tomatoes to mine!).

      • Faye April 8, 2018 / 10:03 am

        I thought of pesto.

    • N. Fritz April 8, 2018 / 2:34 am

Oh, another favorite is roasted pumpkin/butternut squash with Italian ham, feta, and herbs.

      • Faye April 8, 2018 / 10:05 am

        ?

  10. Murray C April 7, 2018 / 2:57 pm

My, my, you folks never disappoint with all of your various activities! A snake – how cool is that, Heather? And AJ – you landed butter side up it sounds like! I’m very happy for you – I hope when we finally move that we do half as well. Alice your books are wonderful – I confess to not having taken the plunge yet – this is our rough time of year financially – taxes, long term health insurance all due around the same time and we’ve had a HUGE amount of vet bills this past year. But I really want to get a book or two – and I have a friend who would enjoy them too and want to get one for him.

I’m getting ready for a small craft event, painting little boxes so that I have some less expensive things to sell. I haven’t been doing much in the way of art and deciding to do this little show helps get me back in the swing, gain a little confidence, etc. Also trying to clean a bit today – things go to rack and ruin when I’m at my drawing table – the place falls down around my ears. And I’ve been sick yet again, so everything is a bit of a struggle. Don’t know what’s going on with that, seems I’ve been sick non-stop since early January.

Faye, glad to hear you’re drawing again, look forward to Millie pics. Duckie, listen to Ricky’s Mom!!! Good advice. Remember, if it seems too good to be true it probably is. Glad Hubby is busy.

Love those little pussycats hugging each other. Hi, Mike – still getting pretzels???

    • Faye April 7, 2018 / 7:54 pm

      Thank you Murray. ?

Had to share this cake from today’s CakeWrecks Sunday Sweets Finds a Rainbow:

    Little chameleons!

(I’m not seeing the images for some reason; if you’re not also, it’s the second-to-last cake at the link.)

    • Murray C April 8, 2018 / 3:17 pm

I often wonder how much actual cake is in these confections.

      • allein ? April 8, 2018 / 3:25 pm

I know; a lot of the fondant-heavy ones don’t look like they’re actually meant to be eaten.
