Bunday in Nosevember

A smart rabbit always follows her nose. Although rabbits have a wide field of vision, they have a blind spot just in front of them, making the nose important for locating food.

And no discussion of bunny noses would be complete without some nose twitching! Rabbits twitch their noses to help them detect smells in the air and also to cool themselves off in the heat.

Wanted to bop that cute bunneh’s nose. So true, they’re blind to what’s right below them and mine use their noses to help find the greens and occasional treats.

Buns actually have a blind spot behind their head too. My Theo is a mini-lop, the same color as the nose twitcher😋, and because their ears are in the way, they have a larger blind spot than up-ears buns. The nearly 360 degree vision is why it is hard to catch them.

My poor little Clementine is missing one eye, has glaucoma in the other, had several bouts with vestibular (inner ear) disease which I’m pretty sure left her deaf – her nose willl be her saving grace. She’s still adorable, however.
