Okay, the hammie was great!😂 And if you scroll down there is another hamster video where a white hammie is going after a jar of sunflower seeds—it’s very intense!
The cat flopping into the waste basket made me laugh out loud!😁
Narnia is lovely and his kittens made me squeeeeeee.

This is the third time in less than two weeks that there’s been a featured story here with animals that were either a product of breeding or are being used for breeding. This breaks my heart. I thought this was a site for people who love animals so much that they would find it unbearable that so many animals die every year in shelters or struggling to survive on the streets because there aren’t enough homes. Breeding only exacerbates the problem, exponentially. Why do you support this, even passively? I don’t want to stop visiting here, because it is often a salve for a stressed spirit. But lately it has left me feeling awful. Please stop. Not that you need to stop for me. Stop for them. Thank you for listening.
I know, when I read that Narnia was a breeding cat I was disappointed and less interested. 🥺
(I was interested to see the pics, tho.)
It does bother me that people breed when there are so many pets in shelters. I think it bothers all of us here. Don’t leave us cos of this! It really doesn’t happen very often here.

I appreciate that, 6RABBITS. I’ve been with this site for quite a while, despite that I typically don’t comment. I was a daily visitor to (the still missed) Cute Overload and eventually found my way here. It’s just that when it comes to websites that feature stories about animals, I want to go only to places that I know are safe, meaning they won’t trigger me or cause me upset. There’s plenty of upset to go around these days. I choose websites like this one for moments of respite and joy. So when I see a post featuring anything to do with breeding, I’m disappointed and unhappy. I didn’t comment on the one from a couple weeks ago. I did comment on the one from the other day with the obviously-bred dogs. And again today, regarding Narnia. I come back hoping it will be what it typically is (agreed), just a fun, cute, sweet collection of images, stories, and comments. Again, though, this is the third time over a very short period with breeding as part of the story or pictures. So I had to try again, to see if it would matter to Mike (NTMTOM). Perhaps he does not feel as I do about breeding. If so, I will go. Thank you, again, for responding as you did; it helps.

To be fair Ronni, I’m not sure how many of the links Mike reads/vets before they’re posted. Most of the submissions come from us and I know I’m guilty of not reading all the way through a post before thinking “gee this is really cute, I’ll send it to for Cutetropolis” and not realize they’re might be some objectionable content.
I’ve noticed with Bored Panda though, that that site has a lot of “contributor” vs legit writers content and it seems anyone with a somewhat basic grasp of English can type up a story for them. Many times, it will start out very cute to obviously grab people’s attention but then bury their agenda or non-cute material somewhere in the middle. Mike had posted the story about the runaway chicken yesterday and I thought I better give people a heads up that after the cute pics the writer(who happens to be an activist) started a rant against corporate chicken farming. And she had included something about that at the top that I just glossed over. Sometimes it can be hard to tell. But please don’t leave, 99.99% of the stories here at Cutetropolis are just that – cute, funny, and a welcome break from what’s going in the rest of the world.

I think that is a fair comment, AJ. Mike has a lot to juggle, and things can slip by. Certainly Narnia and his progeny are beautiful and the markings interesting; that may been all Andrew and then Mike were thinking of in the moment.
I do agree with you, Ronni, that featuring breeders doesn’t seem Cute. I held my tongue about the Frenchies with all those puppies, but I found that story upsetting. Goodness knows I think puppies, maybe even especially Frenchie puppies, are cute in themselves, but the health issues that accompany that kind of overbreeding are not. And since all puppies are cute, I could easily find Frenchies with longer, healthier muzzles, and capable of natural births, to be even cuter. I’m wandering a bit, but I think you’ll understand what I mean. I’d like to see professional breeders think about the long-term health and quality of life of animal breeds rather than their looks. And I’d like to consign backyard breeders and puppymill owners to the darkest pit of … pits.
You have a point about the articles with a buried agenda. I confess that I sometimes skim these articles quickly, so problematic text can get past me as I focus on the cute pictures. I know many readers object to breeders and I do avoid the topic when I can.
AndrewJune 26, 2020 / 12:21 pm
I also skim and focus on cute pictures…
As I’ve said before, with the exception of the weekend threads, I do read almost all the posts here, but mainly just reply to Maru ones.
Maybe I’ll just avoid BP or send in less from now on.
Am sure I’ve been bothering Mike for too long with so many emails anyway.
Okey Doke.Over population of this planet is a thing,as is irresponsible breeding. There is turning your back and refusing any media that includes bad breeding activity, human and such, and there is that. There is also taking some form of action. It would be great if people stopped breeding pugs, and munchkins, and stopped over populating.

Ronni, I completely understand your reaction and I’m glad you spoke up. It’s been all too easy for me to focus on the funny and not realize that I’m upsetting other people or even violating my own principles because I didn’t think hard enough about a joke.
Mike, is there some way you can share the vetting burden? I will happily help check submissions if there’s some way to make that work.
Andrew, please don’t stop sending in posts. It’s not your fault that Bored Panda can be hit or miss–it’s theirs.
It seems to me that we’re all agreed on some basic principles. We like cute animals. We like funny animals. We like cute animals that do funny things. We don’t like breeding that encourages health problems or overpopulation. We don’t like animals getting hurt or suffering, and we’d like the world to realize that sometimes something that seems funny to humans can actually terrorize or traumatize an animal.
This is Mike’s site and it’s not my place to tell it him what to do. May I gently suggest that education about animals be part his mission, as well as celebrating their cuteness and funniness? As I said above, I’m willing to pitch in if I can.
Alice ShortcakeJune 26, 2020 / 5:25 pm
For some time now I’ve been concerned about photos/videos showing cute animals whose living conditions suggest that their owners are actually breeders. From now on I’ll only submitterate pics of pets or wild animals.
RonniJune 26, 2020 / 7:45 pm
It’s been a long day, so my reply will be brief. I may reply again tomorrow. But I wanted to at least say thank you tonight to everybody who responded. It’s good to be among people who are clearly thoughtful, kind, and caring. 💜

Every family has to learn how to accommodate each other and grow together. It’s good you spoke up. I’ve found Cutetropolis to be an expansive and caring place.
RonniJune 27, 2020 / 2:44 pm
Hey everybody. I just wanted to check in one more time to again say thank you to everybody for being so thoughtful and for really considering what I was saying. I hope you know I’m not blaming any of you for anything, and that includes Mike and Andrew. I think everybody’s heart is in the right place over here, and that’s good to know.
RonniJune 27, 2020 / 3:48 pm
And Alice. And anyone else who mentioned that they may have sometimes submitted images or videos that included a breeding situation. 🐾🐾

P.S. I am amazed at how straight the line is between the colors on Narnia’s face!
Narnia is lovely and his kittens made me squeeeeeee.

Oh, don’t stop sharing, Andrew! Maybe skim more carefully? (Is that possible?)
No Andrew! Keep up the contributions!👍🏼☺️
