Reader Deb G. has found a pet marmot with a sweet tooth, because it gets to enjoy a lollipop!
But don’t be alarmed, because the little critter also gets healthier food, like watermelon:
And its all-time favorite, corn!

I could go for some corn on the cob…
I donāt think Iāve seen a marmot before. They seem to be very comfortable walking upright. I would like one please.
The grabby hands for the watermelon!
Donāt know why this person has a marmotāthey are illegal to have as a petābut I am more distressed by what she is being fed! CANDY!?! Even though she didnāt eat much this is baaaaaad. Watermelon is okay, as they do eat some fruit, but corn is not on their menu.
They eat:
Flowers, Berries, Leaves, Grasshoppers, Fruit, Seeds, Stems, Grass, Roots and Bird eggs.
Just because an animal will eat something, doesnāt mean they should have it!
YouTuber says it was āadoptedā and s/he has many videos of feeding the marmot inappropriate foods!š
So sorry, 6Rabbits. I should have investigated further before passing along these videos–we don’t want people mistreating their pets.
I understand. Itās just so weird!
Honestly, I’m with DebG’s first reaction. Marmots are wild animals and should not be kept as pets. I don’t trust that “adopted” ā from where/whom? And feeding candy is just wrong.
IMO: Marmots are cute. Keeping “exotic” pets is not cute.

I seem to have gotten DebG’s remarks confused with 6Rabbits’s, but in any case we’re all on the same page. The marmot really IS adorable. We can hope his hoomin wises up. I hope I haven’t blighted anyone here’s day.
