We have a sweet story for today’s open thread. A photographer found an honor store with a very cute manager.
I drove into deepest, darkest Bryan, Texas to buy some real honey. One picks their honey on the front porch of the beekeeper and leaves money in the jar or uses one of the bank applications to transfer the funds directly to the keeper.

Bonus Book Birb!
Reader Duckie shares a very special holiday gift: “My BFF took all my pictures of Duckie and put them in a Picaboo book for me.”

Aww, Little Duckie!
I think I have new neighbors downstairs. Not sure how I feel about this yet. The guy down there mentioned he was thinking of selling several months ago but I hadn’t really talked to him much since and last week I got home one day and the blinds were partially open and I noticed that it looked empty of furniture and freshly painted. Last night when I got home there were some guys outside and one of them brought a suitcase in, and I noticed a few other suitcases in the living room as I walked up from my car. I just hope it’s one quiet person.
Also the smoke alarm in my bedroom decided to malfunction, again. It’s happened twice before, and both times it wouldn’t shut off and I literally had to destroy it to make it stop. Last time it was replaced with a different model and this time it was a different beep pattern (three short beeps every minute) and I was able to just reset it. (At least this time it wasn’t late at night or while I was getting ready for work. The first time was almost midnight and the second I was just about to get in the shower.) Then I ran my little ducky vacuum’s brush attachment over the vents to hopefully get any dust out. Then this morning I woke up to three beeps (slightly different tone, though) and I don’t know if it was a dream or a half-awake hallucination but I really did not need to wake up like that. So I sat there staring at the thing for a minute to see if it was going to make noise but it just flashed the normal green “all’s good” light.
But the dogs were good…though it seems a shark snuck in there and Matt didn’t even notice!
Oh gosh, the dogs were so good again this week. My sister has two new dogs and I’m looking forward to meeting them!
I assume you’ll send Mike pictures..?
oh – thanks for the reminder that I should do that! 🙂
Congrats on your new nieces/nephews!
Thanks! One of each – Rolypoly (his birthday is today) and Maple (her birthday is next Saturday) they are both 1.
Good luck with the new neighbor(s).
I’ve heard of a milk mustache, but never a spaghetti beard!
Met Radley yesterday. Her humans are so smart, includng the trainer who suggested structured destruction.
Of course sweet Little Duckie should have her own book!
After a day of wind and rain and temperature that were more October than December all the snow had melted but we are back to minus temperature and the forecast is for some snow for the next 4 days so it seems we will have a white Christmas after all.
We went out for breakfast and to do the weekly shop yesterday and I don’t know if it was because of the bad weather but there was a lot less people in the store than I was expecting for the Friday before Christmas!
Well that’s it for me, hope everyone has a nice weekend.
It was 50 degrees (F) on Thursday when I left work at 3:45. Yesterday was mostly in the 40s but very windy (and heavy rain in the morning). Right now it’s 33F. Someone at work mentioned snow on Christmas Eve possibly but the forecast is showing snow likely on Tuesday, sunny Wednesday, cloudy Thursday, and rain on Friday (with a high of 54 again). At least I don’t have to go anywhere on Friday. I need to sort out my gifts this weekend and probably pick up a few gift cards but I will just stop on my way home from work on Monday. Not going to the grocery store or Target on the weekend before Christmas.
Glad you could avoid the crowds. I shudder at the thought of going shopping over the next few weeks.
How dog breeds react to Santa…
Fantastic as always. He’s so creative.
I love that guy, his angel and God making dog breeds are also funny, I really like this one because I’m a big fan of the movie.
Best manager ever, and yeah I’ll slip them a few tins of tuna. Awww such a great BFF to put together that book. Always loved hearing stories of Duckie.
Still trying to get myself motivated this morning, had some very vivid dreams last night and my brain hasn’t quite woken up yet. Breakfast first then off to the cell phone store to see how we can add my BIL in FL to our cell phone plan. His phone has been giving him problems and he’s struggling to afford a replacement and the service plan so we want to help out. He gave us a scare around Thanksgiving when no one could get in touch with him for several days and we didn’t know what was going on so figured if he has a more reliable phone, this might not happen again. This afternoon is our Lego club meeting. Either tomorrow or early next week, I’ll be off to the park to check out all the Christmas decorations. The university where I work is closed all next week so plenty of time to relax and probably do some painting. We’re supposed to have a rainstorm come in next week but fingers crossed it’s not too bad. Enjoy the weekend!
For the phone service, have you looked into Mint Mobile? I thought it would be a big scam but it is great! You purchase the plan in 3, 6, or 12 month increments. I get the 12 month and it averages out to about $16/month. I’m just thinking that you could pay once and it would be done. I was paying $80/month before I switched.
You’re a generous soul to help your BIL like that.
Good Morning All – what a great supervisor! I would absolutely bring tuna as a tip. And sweet little Ducky – so nice to see her again. What a lovely and thoughtful gift.
Oooofff – it’s the last weekend before Christmas and I have so much to do I don’t know where to start! So I’m still in bed. Somehow, last night, I tripped and whacked my forehead (eyebrow region) against a door jam and it looks like I’m going to have a black eye for Christmas. Just the top half, so maybe I need to get some purple eyeshadow and make the other eye match? So annoying. At anyrate, I don’t feel like getting up.
Just as I was thinking “at last this disastrous year is nearly over and I can relax”, along came a plumbing emergency that took another chunk out of the savings. It wasn’t the sort of thing that could wait until the end of next month (ALL the plumbers I called told me this!) so I had to settle for one of those overpriced-but-can-do-it-today outfits. Anyway, they solved the problem but I’m still waiting for the roofer to fix his own repairs. I cannot wait for my pension to start on February 5th!
But enough of the doom and gloom. Let’s get into the festive spirit…
Well, so much for the festive spirit. You’ll just have to imagine needle-felted medieval cats doing weird medieval things.
Dang, that video sounds great.
So sorry about your plumbing emergency.
I would have loved to watch the video, but when I clicked the arrow it went to youtube to my favourite fitness video so I had a very pleasant workout in the end. So thanks, Alice 🙂
This is hilarious (unfortunately I couldn’t find a non-FB link).
Last weekend before Christmas. I’m going to try to focus on positive things.
It’s supposed to not rain Christmas Day. It might even flurry!
The book my BFF made is wonderful. Has us thinking about getting another budgie sooner than planned. I nearly birdnapped my neighbour’s bird yesterday, but she caught me.
Chiro visits are down to every three weeks, instead of every two.
Hoping everyone has a good weekend.
Do eet! Get another birb!
Happy Caturday, everybody. I love our guest kitty–tabbies are classics for a reason. Also hope the lil Duckie memory book brings smiles–we miss our little feathered friend and her unpredictable antics.
I got off to a really late start today, and I’m feeling lazy. It’s not going to be a productive day. Fortunately, I did all my holiday baking last weekend and took it all into work on Tuesday. Holiday gifts are just donations to charities. In other words, I’m ready for Christmas, except for planning two long weekends! These long stretches of time are a big boon to dye projects, sewing, etc.
Hugs to you all.
I almost forgot the most exciting news here in my household. Lavender Tabby Brown got over her problem with peeing on the closet carpet when I replaced said carpet with vinyl planks. But she had still been pooping on the bathroom floor, intermittently. I couldn’t find a pattern in her behavior so couldn’t find a solution.
Then we got a Litter Robot EVO about 10 days ago. She popped right in after I set it up and hasn’t had any poop-on-the-floor incidents since. She *loves* watching it rotate and will even stick her paw in to help the stuff tumble down from the top of the sphere. Though it’s about 10 feet away from my bed, I do not hear it at night, but I hear the old one in the living room. Might be time to upgrade the one the boys use.
Great improvement with Lavender Tabby Brown’s toilet habits! I’m glad you’ve found a good solution.
Santa and the Grinch just came by on a fire truck. They were preceded by a fire department pickup truck and the guy in the passenger seat had a little doggie poking its head out the window!
