A Hive of Inactivity

Although many cats live in colonies, the extremely rare South American Catbee (felix stingus) builds elaborate hives for housing and protection. A typical catbee hive is a multi-generational project that can take decades to complete, since construction must allow for the catbee’s extensive napping schedule.

a wooden structure, comprising of four hexagonal shapes with access holes, is attached to a wall. a cat rests inside one of the shapes and a second cat is partially hidden inside another.

I like the guard rails on the bottom hexagon. But the slats should start further up, to allow the prehensile stinger to have freedom.

Love the ears sticking up above the top rail.

Oh my gosh, didn’t even notice that cat until you mentioned it. I would be the one putting blackets and beds up there so babies could be comfortable. Anything to not provoke the felix stingus.

I too thought there was only one catbee in residence until I noticed the antennae of a second one at the bottom.

I know! Can’t let my cats see this or they’ll want one.
