For today’s open thread, reader Tara O. shares this photo of Ophelia, a cat with a very important job:
She is a support animal for cats ONLY! Her co-worker, Clark (a black tux kitty), is the support animal for the dogs that come in. They both know their jobs and perform them well.

Good morning Ophelia you are gorgeous!
It’s a long weekend here and depending where you live in Canada Monday is either called Victoria Day or here in Québec “Journée nationale des Patriotes” (National Patriotes Day) but in New Brunswick it is simply called Prescribed Day of Rest.
But for me it’s the put away winter clothes and take out summer clothes weekend. That means a lot of going up and down to the basement with boxes of clothes and a lot of washing! Thankfully it will be sunny and warm all weekend so I can put some clothes outside to dry which means I don’t have to run the dryer as much.
Hope you all have a good weekend.
You know you’re jinxing the weather, right? The second I put away winter clothes, we get a blizzard.
Good Morning and happy Caturday all!
Ophelia and Clark live at my vet’s office. I’ve seen them both in action and it’s amazing. When they aren’t doing their very important jobs, they are supervising Annie, the receptionist, lying all over her desk.
I’m done with school! WootWoot! Grading, final meetings, department reviews, everything. So of course, Jacques woke me up at 5:30am this morning. He now has stage 2 kidney disease and is constantly hungry. I’m feeding him as best I can with baby food, sardines, defrosted frozen fish, all mixed with a portion of the medicated renal support food. I’ve given up keeping him off of one of counters (my cats have always known that was not allowed) but since Jacques is deaf now – he gets a pass. I can leave a plate of food for him there and the other cats won’t go up there. He knows it’s there and when he’s hungry during the day he help himself.
I’m close to finishing knitting a tank top so I’ll do that today and then I’ll go do some gardening. Tomatoes need to go in along with other things. I’m honestly a little at a loss without the pressure of grading and lesson planing. Not complaining though.
Congratulations! You made it through the school year! Now take some well-deserved time for yourself! I am still in grading hell. I actually graded all of my papers in time to hand by yesterday’s deadline. But… the administration didn’t accept my way of marking texts (recommended by the Austrian school board, which requires marking a text up four different times in four different documents). So now I am transferring all of my comments onto a single copy of the text which is an absolute horror… but if I can get it done before tomorrow, I can enjoy two separate events with friends (brunch at 11, and a Christmas party at 3).
Sympathetic hugs to you both.
N. Fritz, once I started typing comments on student papers in a long Word doc (one page per student), grading got a little easier. I had sets of comments I could just copy and paste. It may not be feasible for your situation, but just in case . . .
Thanks N. Fritz! I was wondering how you were doing too – I’m sorry you are having to do make-work. So annoying. I wish you quick fingers in transferring the comments. You deserve a Christmas in May. 🤣
Ophelia can support me any time she likes!
More on the oddly shaped new house at the end of Shortcake Street with “a private enclosed walled courtyard”. I’ve just noticed that the the AI-generated photos show a non-existent new wall facing the french window of the living/dining area – in reality the occupants will be able to enjoy a lovely view of the side wall of the shop next door, complete with three windows. So much for privacy!
Happy Caturday! Ophelia is gorgeous. I was off yesterday; got my hair cut. Chopped off a good six inches I think. I like it long but t was getting unruly. It was maybe to the bottom of my ribcage and now it’s just about even with my shoulder blades. Expecting the inevitable “where did all my hair go?!” moment when I wash it later.
The dogs were good again…
And also scientifically weird again…
BONUS: TOP HUSKIES
(Imagine shivering sounds) Good morning everyone. It is 8C here, and I am regretting putting my summer sheets and jammies on.
Busy week doing a story proposal, stripping wallpaper and NOT unaliving my sisters’ husbands. I’ve been successful with two items, but the wallpaper is stubborn.
I planted peas last weekend, and they are all delightfully popping up out of the soil. I can sit by the container and actually see the soil cracking as the babies start emerging.
I also choked on a grape last weekend, and ended up coughing two ribs into dislocating. My chiropractor put them back and limited my movement. I’ve done this before, but never this aggressively. I’m wondering if there’s a way to permanently weld those two ribs into place, as they are the only ones that keep doing this.
Maybe I need a beautiful emotional support kitty like Ophelia.
Have a great weekend, everyone.
See, this is what I mean about jinxing the weather. We all do it. The clouds just sit there laughing at us.
Oh my gosh Duckie, I’ve never heard of dislocating ribs. Sounds painful! I wish you quick healing.
Ophelia is gorgeous and she does have a tough job. I’m the emotional support person for my cats and can attest that it’s difficult.
Just got back from errands so now I get to relax for the rest of the weekend. Perhaps I’ll be able to take my complicated scarf off the loom! Last night’s weaving was a horror–mistake after mistake–so it will be good to feel like a successful weaver today. Then I get to run color experiments on a new, much simpler project. And I’m really looking forward to the long weekend for USians next weekend.
Hugs to you all.
Wishing you much success at your loom! I’ve been knitting a sweater all weekend with a star pattern that is very difficult to frog. I’ve now knitted the yoke wrong twice! I don’t know where I’m making the mistake. So two weeks ago I had to knit something else – I picked up the SABIA tank top from ravelry and have finished today. Phew – I feel like I accomplished something. Good luck!
