So is there a purpose for throwing sand on himself or is the turtle just excited by his new auto-scritcher?

It was Tongue-out Tuesday on Jeopardy yesterday!
$800 clue in the category There’s a Word For That:
“Used affectionately, this slangy 4-letter word is when an animal has its tongue hanging partway out”
Sadly, no one knew it. (“Blep,” of course.)
I thought those Jeopardy people were smart.
Too much time studying up on History and Literature and not enough time studying The Cute.
See, I study all three. That’s just common sense.
Of all the things you could find in a bag of lettuce a cute little frog is for sure the best and I hope they left the lettuce with him when they released him.
I did not know robins were a protected species. The dealership seems to be okay with the situation.
Sounds like many people at the dealership are emotionally involved in this family and aren’t ready to move them anyway.
Agree with FB that they definitely owe the truck owner some free oil changes and maintenance.
Also owe that robin a bait shop of worms for the free press.
Brushy-brushy skritchy-skritchy, love the slo-mo sand-slinging itchy-itchy turtle!
Slightly off topic but still amazingly cute. Chez moi has suddenly become an active wildlife sanctuary! First there was the cat that’s decided my front porch bench is his best place to snooze at night. S/he has been nicknamed “The Captain” as it’s the cutest porch pirate out there. Then this morning, I was looking out the back door and saw something doing laps in the pool. At first, I thought it was one of those danged gophers but when I got closer, I saw it was a baby possum! Well, of course, I had to fish it out. Found a towel for it to crawl on and dry out. Checked on it before I left for work and it was still alive (thankfully) so left it there so recuperate and then toddle off to wherever it came from. I also sent pictures to our local wildlife rehab center to see if I needed to take it because it was so small. Unfortunately they don’t open until 10 PDT so I’m still waiting on a response.
Then comes part 2 – I get an alert from my backyard camera that something was in the yard. I check and it’s The Captain! Yikes! Call hubby to go check on possum so it doesn’t get eaten. Good thing I called, said possum fell back in the pool. Hubby pulled it back out, and put on the towel, then went and got a box for it. Meanwhile he’s trying to figure out where to stash it so kitty doesn’t get to it and he’s decision is to take it into his home office so he can keep an eye on it. So much excitment and barely 10 am! Just got an email from the wildlife center and they want baby brought in. Here’s some pics of the poor baby. Fingers crossed it heals up and can be released.

Aww, poor baby.
Someone in my complex posted a pic in our private community Facebook group last night of three baby raccoons prowling around her grill (which she had used earlier in the evening). Her son went to take the dog out and they were out there. She didn’t see mom so she was worried, but I did a little googling and it seems baby raccoons will start to venture out of the nest at around 2-3 months old (they were little but obviously not newborns), so hopefully their nest is nearby and mom is around somewhere. I can’t share the pic but they are very cute. Someone else commented this morning that she had seen a couple adult raccoons in the area so maybe one of them was mom.
And the other night I took a walk after dark and a whole bunch of deer came out from between some buildings, stopped before the street (I guess they were waiting to see what I was going to do; of course I stopped and waited to see what they would do), then proceeded across the street to the ball field and the trees on the other side. It was hard to see but I counted six or seven.
I yelped out loud at that cutie!
That is the cutest little possum I ever did squee!
