Guide for Dungeon Crawlers

As you venture deep into the caverns in search of treasure you will encounter dangerous monsters: trolls, goblins, insurance salesmen and more. But the cleverest of these is a lethal trap disguised as a treasure chest, known as the meowmic.

    I’ll risk it.

I have a feeling I’d fall for this every time.

    I’m stumped. Can someone explain?

      Google gave me this:

“Meowmic” is a playful portmanteau of “Meow” (cat) and “Mimic” (a shape-shifting monster, often popularized in fantasy games like Dungeons & Dragons). It typically refers to a fan-made, meme-inspired illustrated cat that disguises itself as a treasure chest, commonly seen in sticker and merchandise communities.

This is one of the cuter image results I got.

D&D has mimic variants for lots of stuff. It’s entirely possible to test a treasure chest by giving it a prod with your sword only to discover that sword, chest, walls, and your pants are all mimics. Wise dungeon masters don’t often pull such tricks for fear of irl punching.

Then there’s the Dark Souls mimics that sprout legs and chase you around.

Thank you both. This stuff is well outside my frame of reference!

Maybe it’s just me, but I think that box looks a bit frog-like.
