We are going to the city today and do a little shopping and after that we will be meeting a group of friends for diner tonight at a fancy restaurant.

Not much going on this weekend. It’s been pretty warm, not quite a heat wave but getting up there. Plus it’s been unusually muggy here in SoCal from an offshore tropical storm. So probably relax, maybe hit the outlet or thrift shops. I was trying to hold off but I really need some new clothes as most everything has gotten big on me, especially pants. I’m proud to say that after the dr had concerns about my weight, I have lost almost 15 lbs, and I’m about 4 lbs from my goal weight, and 7 from my “this is really what I’d like to weigh but let’s see if I get there” weight. Then tomorrow will be errands, and some meal prepping for the week. Enjoy the weekend all!!

Cut out all chocolate. It’s unfortunately working for me.
I mainly just try to watch portion sizes, make healthy swaps, watch my snacking, and before I do snack I ask myself if I’m really hungry, or if I’m eating because I’m bored, or frustrated whatever. Plus I eat mostly plant based, along with a little fish and dairy. I also use an app called fatsecret. I told it my starting weight, my goal weight, and how many lbs per week I wanted to lose and it determined my daily calorie allotment. I then log what I eat (or at least 90% of it). You can look up foods by name, scan a bar code or enter your own recipe. Good luck!

I have a list a mile long of things I should do – I’ll get to some of them. This afternoon I’m going to help a retired professor clean out her basement. I (sadly) never studied with her, but knew her from being in the same building. She is a lovely person. Some of her files will come to our archive and she wants to be sure to send the right things. Should be a pleasant afternoon.
I may be weird but I love cleaning out attics and basements and overflowing closets. You’ll never know what treasures you may find, and even if you don’t, just hearing the stories and memories associated with the objects is absolutely fascinating (at least to me – I can be such a nerd, lol). Enjoy your afternoon.
You both can come over anytime to help me re-sort my stash.
Then feel free to come to Jersey. It’s lovely(?) this time of year!

Yesterday I took advantage of the nice weather and my free bus pass to visit the village of Stillington, about ten miles away, where some on my ancestors lived in the early 19th century. The bus passed through Sutton-on-the-Forest, another village where the same branch of the family lived. The novelist Laurence Sterne was rector at both parish churches, a fact that makes me want to give “Tristram Shandy” another try.
In other news, there was a spectacular fire in Essex yesterday when a warehouse full of fertilizer exploded. The shock was felt 15 miles away, three fire engines and two police cars were incinerated, and 22 firefighters were hospitalized. I’m not sure if the unusual heat contributed to the exp!osion but any wood and grass in the area must have caught fire instantly. We desperately need some rain!

Right now, we are waiting for rain. The sky is completely cloudy, and the weather network says rain today and tomorrow. Bring it on! Not to minimize what anyone is going through, especially not Alice Shortcake, but we need it, too.
We’ve been getting some not-so-nice information about the impact of the construction going on next door. They cut down ALL the trees on the property, including the ones that were supposed to be saved. And they may have cut down trees on an adjoining property, where they had no right to be. We’re concerned for our property values now, as those trees made our yard a lovely shaded place. And our cooling costs have skyrocketed! Not to mentions the aesthetics. And the loss of noise suppression provided by the trees.
Other than that, it’s been rather blah around here. Today I’m beginning to assemble quilts for the single parents’ group my church has adopted. I also need to remove the pea vines from my deck, as they are not going to survive to pod. I might get 1.3 tomatoes from my tomato plants. A very dry summer.
Off to listen for raindrops.

My dad was in construction for nearly all of his working life. He used to tell me it was cheaper to remove all the trees, build the house, and then plant new ones. I was horrified. Sorry for all your unwanted changes.

I’d planned to grocery shop before my hair appointment, but didn’t get out the door in time. So George got second breakfast and I’m lazing around until it’s time to head out.
George does not have hyperthyroidism, which means it’s probably something much more serious like a GI lymphoma. As the vet put it, “I don’t think he’s suffering, but he’s not thriving.” We’re trying steroids and an appetite stimulant to put some weight on him. But I’m back to hoping he’ll eat a lot and waiting for the end.
To make things worse, he keeps getting tired of the canned food I buy in big packages: first it’s “I love fish” then it’s “sick of fish”. Sometimes I’ll open can after can of different flavors, hoping he will like one of them. Some smaller variety packs are coming today, so we can go back to fish now that he’s tired of poultry.

Oh I’m sorry DebG, I was hoping it would be the hyperthyroidism. Jacques was the same for the last six months, I had to keep a constant variety going – different brands and flavors. The Aldi cat food lasted the longest. But in the end it was canned sardines, liverwurst, and Gerber’s baby food. Not the chicken hot dogs though, that was an immediate nope. Oh, and apparently asparagus with garlic.!? Still sending lots of good thoughts to both of you.
Oh Deb, I’m sending you both positive vibes. It sounds so much like Mutz’ ailment. When he stopped eating his favorite pouch food, we knew it was serious. Here’s to GW’s healthy appetite!!
Slept in. Don’t have much to share. Need to shower and do chores and clean out my fridge.

Gearing up to go to a student dance performance at the university – the daughter of a friend is an extremely talented dancer who has now moved into choreography, so we’re getting to see a showcase of her work. Hopefully the start of a great career in dance!
Nikolai Devinovich and Ekaterina Velikaya hadn’t left the basement in 12 hours, so I got the hint and turned on the air conditioning. It’s supposedly only 26 C but sure feels hotter! Now both cats are wandering around as per usual. Enjoy summer, folks, but stay hydrated!

Y’all can have some of the rain we finally got. A few nights ago we had noisy thunderstorms ALL NIGHT! Mostly just afternoon and evening showers.
