Well, then, Happy Caturday! I was so sad to get up Saturday, check my email, and realize there really would be no open thread. I was not expecting this morning’s Links email so I was very excited when I saw that.
We had a nor’easter over the weekend, which brought a migraine with it, so I spent most of Caturday in bed. I am off this week. Trying to get some stuff done around the house. Have an appointment tomorrow, then grocery shopping, then I plan to park my car around the corner because they are resurfacing the asphalt in the community and my street is scheduled for Thursday (unless weather causes a third rescheduling…they were supposed to start last Wednesday, but moved the first section scheduled to the end, then they cancelled Friday and Monday because of the storm and my street got moved from tomorrow to Thursday) and I don’t want to have to go out to move it before 8am.
The dogs were good, of course. I refer you to my 8:48am comment in today’s Links post for the proof (also for Puppy Court).
(Oh, yeah, and my internet was out most of Sunday. Lost power for about ten minutes around 10:30am but the cable and internet didn’t come back with it and wasn’t fixed until 9am Monday. I actually finished a book….)
Hmmm, how does one make a website attend AA? I’m glad the website is back up, Mike.
I had another “lost weekend” too, although not because of alcohol. Mostly laziness. I get up in the morning, saying I’m finally going to tackle the clutter in my apartment, but first let me check just one thing on the computer. Then I spend all day doing “research” online and go to bed with a messy apartment. Wash, rinse, repeat.
Oh wait, I did go out on Saturday. I remember because the sky was gorgeous! Some dark clouds, but mostly lots of white, fluffy clouds. I love looking at the sky and at the clouds. I used to take pictures of strange cloud formations, but I don’t know if I still have them. One time, the sky looked like an old-fashioned washboard, lots of rippling clouds.

Are we twins?
My Saturday was productive, torrential rains notwithstanding, but I seem to have lost Sunday in a blur of brain rot. So “rotty” was it, I couldn’t even begin to pretend it was research. I was glad to have things to do on Monday.
I hit the Greek Festival drive-thru.
Twice.
And regretted it as it was so heavy and rich but hey, its not like I’m going to make moussaka or pastitio myself. Plus they haven’t had their drive-thru since the pandemic. the line of cars were ridiculous.
Pastitsio is one of my all-time favorite foods! Glad you enjoyed it!
Have you ever tried those “clean with me” videos? I’ve looked at some in the past but haven’t actually used them, but I really like this creator and I’ve had it sitting open in a tab for a little bit so I finally decided to try it. I’m actually getting a few things done (did dishes, now going through all the papers and other stuff on/around my table where they tend to collect as I come in the door…though I found a couple more dishes in the process; they are actually clean but were in my lunch bag from whenever I was last in the office last week). There’s also no annoying music or overly-upbeat-chit-chatting (she does talk but, not the entire time, and I find her voice calming). Bonus: She has a Golden Retriever named Goose who the camera sits on for several minutes while you hear her doing stuff in the background. Goose is not particularly helpful with the cleaning, though. But I took a break to write this while he snoozed in the corner of my screen.
She also has another hour-long one on her page that went up yesterday. Might do that next if my motivation continues.
(And if anyone is watching this season of The Traitors: New Blood on NBC, she is Morgan.)

No, I haven’t tried “clean with me” videos. I’ve watched various videos over the years, and had even followed the flylady’s cleaning routing over a decade ago. Or tried to. Others have incorporated/used her ideas. Specifically, set a timer for 15 minutes and clean in one room for that length of time. It’s amazing how much you can do in 15 minutes. You just have to do it!
Consistency is the issue, and I’m not very consistent. I’ve tried the 15 minute thing, I’ve tried just emptying out one box a day, and other strategies. I can do it for a bit, but then I revert to my lazy ways.
However, I am focusing on getting my couch cleaned off today. Just took a break from that to check things online, and I will get back to it! I promise!
I am the same way. Maybe if I spent less time “researching” cleaning routines and just cleaned, I’d be in a better place…
I had dreamt of using my no-crafting time to finally go through that box of very important papers I haven’t unpacked in 4 years. But I didn’t manage it before the wrist surgery, and now I can at least weave and knit again. Spinning still hurts too much.
Something tells me that box will never get unpacked.
How’s the wrist doing?
Much better, thanks! Now that all the bones are fixed in place with hardware, I’m not worried about resuming my crafts, though in small doses for now.
I had a nerve block before or during surgery last Wednesday. If you remember the episode in Chamber of Secrets where Harry Potter lost all the bones in his arm (thanks, Professor Lockhart) and then grew them back with Skele-gro, it felt exactly like the book described! I could see the swollen hand and forearm, but I could only feel and move the upper arm. Really bizarre.
this is my first site that I check when I get up. It was really disturbing when I couldn’t pull up the website.
feel a little better now.
I was so afraid cutetropolis wouldn’t be back…..assumed hackers. I love the daily fix of cuteness that does not overwhelm like other cute animal sites that suck you in like a vortex of productivity death. I can decide whether or not to follow the links to sites that I know will take a lot of my time, and be sure that when I do, they’re the handpicked versions that will be worth it. So glad to see cutetropolis back!
And yes, it was a hard weekend, too much stressful work (on call and busy), and no cutetropolis when I took my lunch or snacks.
You’re back! The withdrawal symptoms were AWFUL!
In preparation for my visit to the Bayeux Tapestry exhibition on 7th October, last Friday I took the bus to Stamford Bridge, the site of Harold Godwinson’s victory over his brother Tostig and King Harald Hardrada of Norway (both of whom were killed) in 1066. It was the 960th anniversary of the battle. Something that blows my mind: at the time of the Norwegian king’s death, eight miles away in York a church dedicated to his older half-brother St Olaf had existed for at least ten years! A church known as St Olave’s still exists on the same site.
Changing the subject somewhat, last night I gave in to the urge to cut my own hair into a shorter style. Armed with a YouTube tutorial and a pair of kitchen scissors, in less than five minutes I became the proud owner of a “bixie cut” – pixie at the back, bob at the sides (I suppose it sounds better than a “pob cut”). The final result isn’t at all bad but I think I’ll let my hair grow again.
I can’t wait to hear your impression of the Bayeux Tapestry it was our first stop when we visited France back in 2018 and let me tell you I wasn’t disappointed.
How I wish I could get to England for the tapestry exhibition! It’s probably sold out now. I hear there are cats on it.
Only the first booking period is sold out – the second opens on 21 October, the third on an as yet unspecified date in January 2027. If you decide to go be prepared to log on to the BM website, credit card in hand, at least an hour before tickets go on sale.
Well my Saturday was spent at home, my husband is still not 100% recovered, he will be seeing the specialist on Friday and we’ll know more then.
I really missed reading all of you peeps posts, I live vicariously through you guys since as I’m getting older I tend to be more and more a homebody, also I’m very lazy LOL!!
I love reading what everyone has been up to the last few days, and I’m so happy to back with y’all. Had a sorta lost weekend. Got up and did some errands on Sat but then after I got back, just lazed around because it was hot, not just hot but cooking muffins outside HOT. Mother Nature was just plain confuzzled, the calendar said end of Sept but she thought it was July. Same thing on Sun, so me and hubby went off to the enclosed mall to at least get of the house. Did meal planning for the week later on. And that was that, lots of time spent going down research rabbit holes, playing mindless games, powering through nap attacks. and a whole lot of nothing. Heck, I couldn’t even go enjoy the pool because my circa 2009 pool filter failed earlier in the week and I was waiting for the pool company to come out and repair it. I swore I wasn’t going to do any big $$ projects around the house this year, but the universe laughed and said “Hold my beer”. I figured since I needed to replace the filter, I might as well replace/upgrade the heater and the pump as they were probably also circa 2009, and ready to fail too. Good news is the company came by yesterday and took out all the old equipment, should be back tomorrow to start installation. So hopefully, I’ll be back to my swimming/exercise routine this weekend. To add to all the excitement, at work I got a new fancy dancy smancy standing desk that electronically raises and lowers. I love this thing and it’s helping me get up and stand/stretch which will hopefully help my back. Can’t wait to see what else happens this week.
Whew! We’re back on the air. I was freaking out all weekend and running around trying to establish contact with as many of you as possible.
And Mike, I wasn’t kidding about the ransom money.
We had a lovely atmospheric river last night which seemed to have drowned the internet for this morning and afternoon, or I would have been all over this site earlier.
Gorgeous kitty, come visit me. I could really use your cuddles.
Glad you made it!
Very relieved Cutetropolis is back.
Even those of us who usually only lurk here really missed all the regulars and the chatter. Glad it’s back for now.
Nice to see you all again!
