Mike, I’ve really enjoyed seeing the pictures of Teddy this week and reading your memories of him. He is so gorgeous, like jade and caramel. I hope we see him periodically in the future too. It is helping me (still) process the loss of Jacques. Thank you.
Good morning y’all! Rainy morning in Philly today, so we are all still in bed. I’ve got to start knitting my Dad’s Christmas socks. I’ll get a toe done this morning and then get up and get moving.
My farm share gave us 21 apples this week. 21! Who can eat 3 apples a day? It’s an embarrassment of riches really. Two people didn’t pick up their shares so I actually had 42 more left over. I hauled them to work and thank goodness people cleaned me out. I think it was because our apple crop was wiped out in the spring with a late frost. There is not as much picking in the area as usual. Two boxes were from Vermont orchards. They sent an apple called “Ambrosia.” Very aptly named. It is crispy like a honey crisp, but with a milder flavor, almost floral. At first I thought, oh this is boring. But it grows on you and you keep munching. If you can find them, I highly recommend. The rest will become apple brownies, apple fritters, apple sauce, and an Apfel Torte for Stitch & Bitch tomorrow.
And I have a Netflix recommendation, watch “Below”. It is a wildly silly, slightly spooky, but very well done Kraken Tale that takes place in Newfoundland. I loved listening to the accent which I have rarely experienced and a review I read claims it has loads of inside jokes for Newfoundlanders. I’m sure I wouldn’t pick up on it but our Canadian friends might. There is one dog in the show. Care to guess the breed? Newfoundlander. That one caught. 🙂
Have a wonderful weekend all!
I’m loving the Teddython!!! It’s a tribute to how well loved he was by the number of pictures you have and are sharing with us. How are you managing?
Busy Saturday chez moi this weekend. Once I get my butt in gear, I have to get blood drawn for a drs appt next week, followed by breakfast, haircut, and then this afternoon Lego club. All while trying to survive our latest heat wave. Hit over 90 yesterday with Santa Ana winds gusting to about 20 mph. When I got up one time in the night, I checked the temperature, it was still 84 degrees at 1 in the morning. And I woke up to rain this morning 🤷🏻♀️. It’s supposed to cool off this weekend, which I’m thrilled for. I am so tired of the whiplash from hot to rain to cool to hot, repeat. Sorry for being cranky but didn’t sleep too well. Hope everyone else has a fabulous, and cool, weekend.
Happy Saturday everyone, loved the Teddy photo marathon.
It’s been a busy week health wise for my husband, after an exhaustive round of tests we finally have the results, the cancer on his kidney is NOT back which is what we were most afraid of. He still will have to undergo prostate reduction surgery but that’s a minimally invasive procedure a lot of older men have this done.
Have a great weekend!
Yeah for good news !!! Glad to hear it’s something manageable.
I’m glad for you both. Sending hugs and kitty purrs.
Glad to hear your good news!
Good morning all. Teddy’s been a calming influence on my life this week. Thank you, Mike, for all the pictures.
It’s a rather chilly morning here, and my knees have decided to “hey, let’s feel like we’re tied in knots”. I’m having a very bad flare up this weekend, but my schedule is not too busy, and I can afford time out for me.
Hubby has a new boss, and I am so looking forward to what’s going to happen. She used to work on an ocean oil rig (she looks it), and decided working in a mall was less stressful. But she has an “I don’t take no s—t from no one” attitude that I find refreshing, hubby finds awesome, and several of the mall workers find terrifying. (Especially my BIL.) And she seems to have my sense of humour.
I’m apparently going to be a pin cushion for Hallowe’en. My doctor wants me to get Covid, flu and pneumonia shots this fall, plus the double shingles vaccine. He said I could get them in my thighs or butt cheeks, and I said Sure! I’ll just drop trou in my local pharmacy!
I apparently have to start carrying nuts with me when I go out walking, because the local squirrel population actually comes up to you and puts a paw on your foot! I was rather startled the first time it happened, but I’d been collecting acorns and was able to pay the little extortionist.
Glad everyone seems to be doing ok. Have a good weekend, everyone.
Teddy was an amazing and wonderfully photogenic cat. Mike, thanks for sharing all these lovely and loving memories of him. Sending hugs as you grieve.
We’re having lovely fall weather, George is up to 8 pounds today, and the election commissioner accepted the wobbly signature on my ballot. My wrist continues to heal–4 more weeks of occupational therapy and final x-rays should do it. I’m so grateful to my care team and my supportive friend network.
Off to finish warping my loom. This has been a long one! Hopefully I can finally start weaving by tomorrow. Hugs to you all.
Good morning, Teddy! Dare I venture a guess who tomorrow’s special guest might be?
Was off yesterday, got blood drawn at noon, then had a doctor’s appointment like two minutes away at 2:20, so I had two hours to kill in between and I didn’t want to drive too far away just to have to go back. (There wasn’t even a wait at the lab…even with an appointment I usually end up waiting for a bit, but there was only one other person in the waiting room when I got there. And I checked in on my phone while I walked up the stairs so I didn’t even have to take time to do that.) There’s a CVS across from the hospital so I went and got a flu shot (I should do Covid and shingles, too, but I can’t do them all together), then went to Starbucks in the shopping center next to the hospital and got some tea to drink with my snack bar I brought with me (was getting a little shaky by then since I didn’t eat in the morning). Sat in Starbucks and played all my little daily games (Wordle, etc.) and said hi to an adorably happy little girl a couple tables away (I would guess she was around 8-9 months old and she waved at me). They were also training a new barista so they were offering up her practice drinks for free…unfortunately not anything I drink, but one woman was very happy for a free iced matcha latte. Also ran into the girl who did my flu shot while I was there. She saw me and said, “Oh, hello again!” 😄
Then I went to the Hallmark store a couple doors down to get birthday cards for my parents (my mom was Wednesday and my dad a month from today) and a card for a friend’s wedding next month. Then I wandered a bit before heading back to the hospital for my appointment. When I checked in I said “I’m really early but I ran out of things to do to kill time.” So I just listened to a podcast and scrolled facebook for a bit. Then I went back to the shopping center and picked up a few things at Stop & Shop (where I don’t usually shop, but it was right there). I got my dad a pint of Irish Cream Brownie ice cream to go with the brownies I made for my mom’s birthday tonight. Also got some vanilla chocolate chip, even though I know they have ice cream in the house. My brother is in charge of salad and my dad said he’d get pizza. He and my mom went out for dinner on her actual birthday so I stopped on my way home from work to “return” her birthday decorations she left on my door two weeks ago. Put the banner across her bed and set the balloon up so it looked like her stuffed dog was holding it.
The dogs were good, of course.

OMG the opening shot!
Ran across a couple of things on Tumblr that made me think of people here. First, for commenter Blue Footed Booby, if he’s still around and reading:

And second, in particular for DebG but really anyone who knits and/or loves bunnies:

Adorable knitted toys! Thank you.
Also the baby boobies are beyond adorable.
So cute! Not quite accurate, since the babies don’t have blue feet (they don’t develop until around 18 months old, from compounds in their diet, similar to how flamingos go from gray to pink), but who cares.. 🥰
That bunny looks so cuddly.
I’m a bit late to the party today. The only drama in my life this week was a bout of food poisoning that left me briefly but memorably ill. I think the culprit may have been a pork pie and have vowed to avoid them in future!
Some of you may be aware of a bizarre and tragic incident that happened recently at a wildlife park at Doncaster, about forty miles away from where I live. A young man with a history of mental illness managed to climb, apparently quite easily, into an animal enclosure and was promptly mauled to death by a tiger. This could have developed into another Harambe situation but the park owners have decided not to euthanize the tiger for having it’s personal space invaded.
