Awwwwwwwww! It really does look like they are hugging!๐
allein ๐พSeptember 27, 2025 / 8:54 am
Aww, I want a kitty hug! I’ve been off work since Tuesday and I go back Tuesday. I did it that way because my coworker was supposed to be off last Monday and I didn’t want us both to be out, but then we found out the auditors were coming in so she switched her day and I had to be there anyway so no one got off last Monday. So I’m off this Monday and she moved her day to Tuesday, which is the last day for both of us to use our vacation time for the year (vacation and personal days are based on our anniversary, floating holidays and sick time are calendar year…just to make things annoying). Then I’m taking a floating holiday on Wednesday for my birthday (but we’re not doing dinner until Saturday; I’ve requested my dad’s spaghetti and meatballs).
The dogs were good, but I think I’ll just have toast.
AJSeptember 27, 2025 / 9:13 am
Love all the good dogs! At that point, I don’t know why you’d want the bagel back, just let doggo finish their breakfast in peace. Oliver is so singing the song of his people. And he sounds like a cross between an air raid siren and a moose, lol.

Man, I need that dental anxiety dog! What an awesome idea๐๐ผ

I could watch those three brown “dogs” all day. They all seem so happy.
Folks, WRD’s emails often include links to longer versions of the clips in the weekly list. It’s worth seeing more of these pups! That email is always the brightest spot in my inbox.

Came across this randomly. Never occurred to me to wonder if baby donkeys have teeth…
I don’t know, but I am listening to yesterday’s NPR Politics Podcast and it was Mara Liasson’s Can’t Let It Go.

yikes
Now I’m nervous about killer rabbits on my walks. I saw 18 cottontails on my last walk, just over a mile. The weather is gorgeous today and I’m planning a longer one this evening.

Take some pics! There are NEVER killer rabbits, so you are safe!

Happy early birthday Allein!!! Sending birthday hugs like the kitties. Such cutie pies today.
Had yesterday off but nothing fun. Had drs appointment, and went to physical therapy. Trying to work out the kinks in my back but the day after I’m still a little sore from the exercises. I think it’s getting better but I have to remember it’s a process not a miracle cure. Today is breakfast and haircut, then some shopping. Now that rainy season is coming up, I’m trying to find doggy raincoats that my little houdinis can’t get out of. I think the best solution is a separate poncho/cape style that goes over their regular harnesses. Wish me luck! Errands, cleaning, and museum visits tomorrow. They have an interesting one at our history museum – an exhibit chronicling neighborhoods (usually minority) lost to freeway construction, redlining, and other discriminatory policies. Hope everyone enjoys the first weekend of fall and the last one before spooky season starts. I can’t wait to start decorating!

That exhibit sounds fascinating!
You might enjoy the Apple TV show “Lessons in Chemistry.” It’s based on the novel of the same name, and they changed certain aspects of the book to include a neighborhood’s fight against a freeway. Really good.

Hello peeps, I’m sorry but I just have to vent, everything crazy here.
First my husband’s brother last week tried to “un-alive” himself. He has been moved from the emergency department and is receiving treatment by a psychiatrist, the situation is ongoing.
Second the hospital called and my husband is schedule to have an operation on Tuesday to remove the kidney stones in his bladder that have been bothering him for 1 1/2 year.
Third I don’t know how but Skye has managed to brake both of her upper canine teeth, we have an appointment at the vet on Friday to have them removes so $$$

Vent all you want; we’re here for you.
I hope your BIL will be okay, and all goes well with Hubby and Skye.
DEBGSeptember 27, 2025 / 12:07 pm
So very sorry for all this worry, Georgiana. Sending lots of hugs and soothing purrs to you all.
Duckie ๐ฅSeptember 27, 2025 / 11:59 am
Itโs a quiet, cool and cloudy day here in Duckieville. I am sitting in my rocking chair, wrapped around a large mug of tea and listening to the birds outside getting drunk on ash berries. If someone wants to bring those two adorable kittens here, I will gladly give them all the gentle hugs they want.
We have a rainy week coming up, so I think I might do some baking and maybe even some Christmas crafting.
Georgiana, this is the perfect place for you to vent, and you know we are here for you.
The squirrel story sounds kind of valid. We used to randomly throw nuts to the squirrels at my parentsโ place, and sooner or later the squirrels were waiting for us if we opened the door. We always kept a few in our pockets. But they never attacked us, although having four or five rodents running towards you can feel intimidating.
Speaking of intimidating, I had a rather bad scare yesterday. I had an appointment with my chiropractor, and when I was finished, I headed to my bus stop. When I got there, two people were collapsed on the bench, enjoying their first drug hit of the day. A third man started staggering towards me, holding what looked like a hypodermic needle in his hand. Running was not an option, as both my knees were acting up. So I pulled my bag close to my body, backed against a power pole, and hefted my walking stick in my hand. The man staggered past me; Iโm not sure he could even see me. I turned to watch him as he moved away, and when my bus pulled up seconds later, I had the driver call the police.
Off for coffee and downloading with my BFF. Hope everyone has a decent weekend. And, in case the knowledge come in handy, I loathe Halloweโen and everything to do with it.
DEBGSeptember 27, 2025 / 12:30 pm

Squeeing for kittens, as usual. These two are excellent specimens!
Busy few weeks here, and things won’t slow down until the end of October. Tomorrow evening, I finally get to do the baby goat yoga that got rained out on my birthday. Next weekend is the big Schacht party, celebrating the new owner and retirement for the current owners–the paperwork has finally been signed and the new owner is working on his visa. We’re expecting over 300 guests next Saturday. I’ll be helping at the try-it table where people can weave on our small looms or spin with drop spindles. It will be wonderful and draining. Everybody involved in party planning has to fit it in around their regular duties. Fortunately, we’ve all been dealing with the stress by being extra-nice and kind to each other.
Hugs to you all. And this is always a safe space to vent.

It is pretty amazing. And I’m almost never bored.

It’s been another quiet week at the Shortcakery. I was surprised to see that the new building at the end of the road won’t be two modestly sized houses like the old properties but a generously proportioned single dwelling. Rather oddly there is no space for a garage, so the owner will have to park in the very narrow street like everyone else!
In other news, thanks to the goldmine that is YouTube I’ve been watching the excellent 1977 BBC adaptation of “Anna Karenina”, mainly because Anna’s husband is played by an actor who recently became one of my favourites, Eric “Soames Forsyte” Porter. It encouraged me get the book from the library, although if my experience with “War and Peace” is anything to go by I may have to take notes as I go along…

It really does look like a macaron. That was exactly my first thought!
Well that’s my brain done for the day.
Also I do see little teefies coming in.
Does this story of the reason for a squirrel to attack humans sound right? I would suspect more of a
distemper- or -rabies like thing? Any thoughts?

Just finished a fantastic book that I think many Cutetropolitans would enjoy, called Poet’s Square: A Memoir in Thirty Cats. Link goes to Amazon, but you can find it elsewhere. The author moved into a rental house with feral cats and ended up becoming a TNR expert in Tucson. She also posts on Instagram. I couldn’t put the book down and it gave me lots to think about for my (eventual) retirement, when I want to do more for unwanted cats.
