Happy Caturday! Am I first in for the belly rubbin’? Gotta do some chores, gonna put some chicken in the crockpot so I can just ignore it for a few hours and do other stuff while it cooks, and I have to work tomorrow. I plan to have a trash bag therapy session today. Also, laundry, and put the t-shirt sheets on my bed because my other sheets were ice cold when I got into bed last night. š„¶ (I also have flannel sheets but I usually end up too warm with those.)
A Caturday puzzle (though really it was from Friday).

Suddenly I could really go for a bagel…
Good girl, Polly.
Get yourself a heated mattress pad. Turn it on 15 minutes before you go to bed, and you’ll never have freezing sheets again. Also great for aching muscles.
I LOVE THOSE! a hassle to clean and maitain though. always worry that something will go wrong with them.
Or could go old school with a bed warmer full of hot coals. Oh wait, talk about a fire hazard.
I have a couple of those microwaveable neck wrap things. (One of them is a leopard.) Might start throwing one under the covers while I get ready for bed.
I wish I could relax like Skye but I’ve had a very trying couple of days. On Thursday I awoke to find a damp patch on the bedroom ceiling, and a trip to the loft revealed more water damage. Yes, the roof is leaking again only nine months after I paid almost Ā£7000 to have it repaired! At least the firm who did the original work won’t charge me anything to fix it, but I’m still annoyed.
On a lighter note: I know few things are less interesting than other people’s dreams, but this week I had two memorably absurd ones I’d like to share. In the first dream I was attending a performance of the opera “Tristan und Isolde” at the Coliseum, London’s biggest theatre. Accompanying me was my husband, whom I knew to be a suspected serial killer (the police had talked me into attending the show so they could arrest him in public). Just before the curtain went up he handed me a bunch of WOODEN red roses and left the theatre, then my POV became his as he scrambled over the rooftops of St Martin’s Lane in an effort to escape, at which point the dream ended. The second dose of nocturnal nonsense involved me working in some lowly capacity in a horror film set in the Northampton branch of Woolworths (RIP, I still miss the Pick ‘n Mix). Work had ended for the day and I said goodbye to two of the stars, Eric Porter and Ronnie Barker, both of whom have been dead for years.
“Alice,” I hear you say, “are you feeling OK? Have you consumed any hallucinogenic substances?” In fact there’s a rational explanation for most of this tomfoolery. I recently became a fan of the late actor Eric Porter (1928-1995) and have been researching his career. Although I really saw “Tristan” at the Coliseum the theatre was in my thoughts because Porter played Captain Hook/Mr Darling in “Peter Pan” there in the early 70s. His few films included the Hammer horror “Hands of the Ripper”, about Jack the Ripper’s fictional daughter, hence the serial killer reference. Alas, I have no explanation for the wooden roses or the presence of that excellent comic actor Ronnie Barker. Perhaps I need a psychiatrist like the one played by Porter in “The Pumpkin Eater”…
Oh I hate when repairs come undone so soon after. Iām keeping an eye on a patch of ceiling in the kitchen and hope it doesnāt collapse like the living room did about 1 year ago. Then, after 2 visits by the beekeeper, I still have bees under my yard shed. Itās like the bees have lit a giant neon welcome sign. I am seriously contemplating lighting the whole shed on fire just to get rid of them. Hope your repair goes smoothly and it takes this time. And Iāve had some wild dreams but yourās, wow. Sounds like stuff right out of an action movie. Itās fascinating how our brains work, and pick up things that get incorporated into our nightly musings. I read thatās the brainās way of processing all the information received during the day.
AJ – try planing mint under your shed. And donāt worry, your weed whacker will keep it in check. Bees donāt like mint, so they might move away. Whatever you do donāt use bleach. They love chlorine. Really! They are very clean little gals, thatās why they love swimming pools.
Oh I tried the mint. Either it didn’t take or my bees are weird and like it, lol
Your dreams are a lot more interesting than mine LOL!!
I almost never even remember mine.
Likewise – they have to be REALLY bizarre to stick in my memory. And I think I’ve worked out Ronnie Barker’s cameo appearance: for years he and the diminutive Ronnie Corbett were Britain’s favourite TV comedy duo, second only to Morcambe and Wise – with whom Eric Porter performed a song and dance routine ( “If They Could See Me Now”) on their 1970 Christmas Day Show.
Sorry about the roof–so frustrating. And maybe you should turn your dreams into novels–they’ve got plenty of plot!
Iāll definitely give Skye some belly rubs. It looks so soft. Wow, is it Caturday already?! With being on vacation all week, Iāve sorta lost track of what day of the week it is.
Thanksgiving dinner buffet was really nice. They had so many yummy choices plus we had a window table. I timed our reservation just right and had some beautiful sunset views over the water. Spent yesterday just puttering around the house as Iām swearing off stores and most shopping until after the holidays. Itās just too crazy and people are stressed and ridiculously rude. My tolerance for dealing with people like that has disappeared.
Today is breakfast than going to see the new Zootopia 2, looks like a fun movie. Then, now that itās cooler, I need to do some gardening and finally try to kill the plant that wonāt die. Iāve cut it back, pulled out the roots, tried the āgentle versionā of weed control (epsom salts) so now I mean business. I really hate using chemicals but this plant is such a nuisance and in a bad location that Iāll have to spray it. Itās on the fence line between mine and my neighborās and if left unchecked, will totally overgrow the deck and probably end up in the pool.
Also want to finish the Christmas decorating, did most of the outside, just need to do inside. Plus if my hand feels better (arthritis acting up), I have a painting I want to finish. Guess I need to go back to work to get a break, lol. Enjoy the weekend all!
One more garden tip. Instead of spraying (which can get all over everything, and can get into your lungs – yuck), Cut the bush down leaving a stub of a trunk. Drill holes in the trunk and then use a pipette, or some kind of syringe to squirt nasty killer chemicals directly into it. I have a paper mulberry infestation and this is pretty much what keeps it at bay. Good Luck!
Zootopia 2!!! I’ll have to watch out for that on streaming–the first one was hilarious.
Hello everyone, Skye is always ready for belly rub so don’t be shy have at it.
Today is the annual Christmas guignolƩe at our local charity shop/food bank where both my sisters in law volunteer.
This year as usual we didn’t prepare in advance so yesterday we raided our pantry and managed to put together 3 boxes of non perishable food like pasta and canned goods, plus we always give money so they can buy fresh produce like vegetables, fruit and meat.
After that little trip it’s back home to do laundry and finish watching the last season of Stranger Things.
I hope everyone as a good weekend.
oh what a snorggley belleh Ms. Skye has! Why, yes please, I will partake.
Had a scary day yesterday. Jacques seems to have caught a sniffle early this week which by yesterday was a full blown congested mess. He was breathing hard, no energy, flopped over, and wouldnāt open his eyes when I picked him up. He was completely limp. I thought for sure it was time. My vet is closed for the entire weekend (as he deserves), but I just couldnāt wait until Monday so we went to UPenn emergency vet. I was a sobbing mess by the time I got there with him, but the nurses were really wonderful and comforting. I sat there with several other people whose fur-babies also had emergencies for three hours. When I finally saw the vet she said that he is fine, he just has a cold and he should get over it in 10 or so days. She gave me some clavamox offered Xrays and some other bloodwork – none of it cheap. I declined saying hope sheās right that itās just a cold. Jacques is eating fine, this morning he snuggled with me a little bit. And now he is camped out on the bathroom tiles which have radiant heat. They are about 86F right now, and he is snoring. Itās an uncomfortable sound but Iāll take it.
Meanwhile, Squirt was neglected yesterday, so I need to make it up to him today. His fur feels much better after his bath and he seems to enjoy being inside. He doesnāt bolt for the door, and knows heāll be fead. A sweetheart.
Iām glad I still have two days for the weekend. After yesterday I came home and crashed. I still have plenty of time to get some things taken care of today and tomorrow.
Poor Jacques! And poor Squirt! And poor you! So sorry for all the worry and trouble.
Poor Jacques I hope he feels better soon.
Happy Caturday to you all, and especially to our lovely Miss Skye! I’m rubbing your belleh through the screen, baby girl.
I no longer know what day it is, after a 2-day holiday and now the regular weekend. My Thanksgiving feast got pushed back a day because I forgot to thaw my plant-based roast, which doesn’t help my internal calendar. I made time for a long walk yesterday, since it will be much colder for the rest of the weekend, and saw about 38 bunnies. Since it’s fully dark here by 5:30 pm, I have to start walking at 4 or 4:30, which is just too early to exercise. But it was worth it yesterday–so many problems with my foot this year, I was afraid to try such a long walk. Now I know I can do it, and the 2.3 mile walk actually seemed to help with the pain.
Hugs to you all.
Back in the 70s, on my way to school on the bus, I regularly saw dozens of rabbits leaping about on the grass in front of a mini aerodrome owned by Butlin’s Holiday Camp, which was on the other side of the road. Typing that sentence really brought home to me the fact that I’ll be 66 next February…
Lurking.
Consider the belleh thoroughly rubbed! My favorite part of the day is when I come downstairs and Julius flops down on the floor, rolls over on his back and does a biiiig stretch. Can’t resist petting the belly but luckily he doesn’t mind.
Since it’s just my husband and myself for Turkey Day, and I’m tired of cooking, we did something different this year and went to a Thanksgiving buffet at the National Park Inn in Longmire (Mt. Rainier). It was really good! I was hoping for some snowy views, but it was just misty/rainy (glad I didn’t have to drive in snow, though). The only drawback is no leftovers, but I did bake a pumpkin pie for us to eat at home, so hubby was happy about that.
I photographed three bands at a show last night, so today I’ll be busy editing photos and getting them posted. I got in on a guest pass, and was able to get CDs from two of the bands whose music I don’t already have, as well as some great photos, so it was a successful night. Even though I’m paying for it today since I didn’t get home until midnight.
